With trading down and acquiring a vast amount of picks..

jc in c-ville : 4/24/2018 10:33 am
One has to certainty hope that those taken with extra 1st round and multiple 2's- will play to their potential.

If so, how the heck are we going to re-sign all of these players to a second contract?

I get it, you want the best talent but based on the scaling of pay based on where you are drafted, a traditional draft would have the Giants picking one player in rounds 1-3 with the exception of the JPP trade which would give us two 3rd round picks with a total of 4. With the trade, we're looking at 7/8 players rounds 1-3.

Now, if this trade with the Browns/Bills happens, do you feel the Giants will be using these 2/3's to move back into the 1st round, or early 2nd to get the most impactful. Or, use all of the extra picks to fill out the roster.

I'm certainty no cap guru but I just don't see how they can afford all of these high drafted players for the next 2/3 years given (Eli), OBJ, Collins ( new contracts).
Wow

You are concerned that the NYG might get too much talent on the rooster? Respectfully you worry too much. :)

Gotta pay these folks. Actually, yes, weird way of looking at it but the Giants could be looking at a large group of folks chasing the $$ for their second contract.

+1. Plus, whom ever they draft, they will have under control for the next 4 to 5 years.
You do realize

the lower you go in the draft the fail rate increases. Look at the last 10 years how many players have gotten to 2nd contracts. Not very many. Don't worry about the 2nd contract situation. Most of them are not going to get there. Regardless if someone new is picking.
Yeah I really hope

The Giants don't acquire a haul of picks, use them all wisely, stack the team with talent for the next 4-5 years, and win a couple super bowls. Imagine how much money those talented players would demand for contributing to winning championships!

We all know super bowl winning teams lose a lot of players to free agency, I don't think I can handle that, I have abandonment issues!!!!!

LOL

The 3 way trade may be the best of both worlds. Barkley while still picking up a couple premium selections
the bigger problem will be finding spots on the roster

It isn't really that hard- the bottom 30 guys on the 90 man roster are essentially camp fodder. Drop some of them to make room.
With the usual bust rate

you're probably not going to want to keep them all past their first contract. But, you can always carve out roster spots and cap space, football rosters turnover 15% or higher each year nowadays. UFA, injuries and short careers, wash outs who don't warrant a second contract, etc.
