How close have the #Giants been to getting a star RB?

'17: NYG picked Davis Webb. Pick before? Kareem Hunt

'16: NYG picked Paul Perkins. Next pick? Jordan Howard

'15: NYG picked Ereck Flowers. Next pick? Todd Gurley

'13: NYG picked Johnathan Hankins. Pick before? LeVeon Bell
Unless the Browns screw it up

The Giants take Saquon at #2!!!! That is my wish!
Gurley is the only one that stings

I was against it for health reasons, so I get why we passed. But getting pretty much nothing for passing really hurts. The rest is a lot of luck, especially Bell.
And which quarterback in the NFL is best served by

a great running game and play action vertical passing attack?

This says it all about why are where we are... Hunt and Bell were a case of bad luck though Kansas City moving up to get Hunt shows a shrewdness that we have not had. It showed up again in 2016 when Tennessee moved up to get Conklin and shafted us with Eli Apple. Gurley was clearly the right pick, but a fair argument can be made as to his health. Paul Perkins though, may have been the very worst pick in Reese's tenure. Missing on Jordan Howard in the fifth round is simply outrageous...
I’m not going to bitch about a 5th round pick

that shit happens, might as well be pissed at not taking Tom Brady.
It seems pretty clear that everyone was on board with RB by committee.
Ten Ton Hammer : 4/24/2018 11:22 am : link
If they wanted a "star" RB, they would have drafted one high when they had the opportunities. There were other positions they wanted more. Tom Coughlin always split up the carries.
It's such a paradox
Bill L : 4/24/2018 11:26 am : link
we bitch about not picking a star running back all the while saying that we don't need to pick a star running back. Go figure.
The last star running back in the first round

With Engram and a competent offensive scheme, Gallman will be a star

Hampton was solid. A star? At times sure, beyond that, solid. Imho
Gallman a star in what universe ?

Hey, we might get like a conditional 7th round pick in a draft several years later out of it....
How about when they selected David Wilson

I think Hampton was a star for a few years at least

Fair enough. Agreed

ArcadeSlumlord : 4/24/2018 3:14 pm : link
we passed on Todd fuckin Gurley for Mr. Softee right?
honestly, RB's can win or lose you games.
ArcadeSlumlord : 4/24/2018 3:16 pm : link
DG draft McCaffery, I can easily see Barkley selected.

Because no one knew what Gurley would play like after a very serious knee injury. Sucks that things have worked out that way but I don't fault the Giants for not taking the risk.

I'm sure you would've drafted a guy who was in physical therapy re-learning how to walk the day of the draft.
Rodney Hampton
GeorgeAdams33 : 4/24/2018 4:18 pm : link
This guy is my favorite Giant RB of all time. Reeves ruined him.
Wilson
BigBluesman : 4/25/2018 4:33 am : link
Had potential.
The offensive line
St. Jimmy : 4/25/2018 5:27 am : link
was bad all those years. Who knows if those guys become stars with that. You cannot get a clear read on anything not the offensive line on offense because of that. Wilson looked like he couldn't find a hole to run through at times but that could be the offensive line or it could have been him.
