Nick Whalen of devyreport rates draft qbs

firedbytheboss : 4/24/2018 1:35 pm
Nick Whalen was on the Chris Harris fantasy football podcast and rated the qbs.

He loves Rosen and Mayfield. Likens Rosen to Peyton and Mayfield to Brees. Ranks them:
Rosen
Mayfield
Allen
Darnold

He is highly critical of Darnolds footwork, anticipation, and ability to make 2nd and 3rd reads.

smart guy with excellent analysis. Starts about 18:30 in.

QB rank goto 18:30 in - ( New Window )
Didn't know who this guy was
Rocky369 : 4/24/2018 1:44 pm : link
but apparently he is an ex college football coach, Christian, bow hunter, Corey Davis and Courtland Sutton truther, competitive obstacle course racer, DTC
There is absolutely no concensus
Chip : 4/24/2018 1:45 pm : link
on the QBs which is why I wouldn't draft one at 2.

I see the opposite and that it could mean there are several worthy of the 2nd pick.
The consensus
Pep22 : 4/24/2018 2:05 pm : link

So many things wrong with this thinking. For one, there sort of is a consensus. Casserly polled 24 NFL executives and 17 chose Darnold as the top QB prospect. So outside of the draftnik community, Darnold is widely considered the top guy. Another thing, QB is incredibly subjective, you're going to see more variance there than at the skill positions. There were people that felt Leaf was a better prospect than Manning and those that felt Griffin was a better prospect than Luck. So among the 2 best QB prospects since Elway, there were STILL people that had other preferences in their respective drafts. Most importantly, it's a logical fallacy, the presence of other solid options does not have anything to do with the ability of that prospect. Would Darnold be any better or worse a prospect if there were no Rosen, Mayfield or Allen in this draft?

Good points though I disagree that Darnold is consensus number one. Among the people I trust, like Cosell, it's Rosen.

Rosen is the best of the bunch, however, his penchant for standing in and taking big hits is going to be a problem in the NFL. This is the reason no one is forecasting him going number #1 overall. There is nothing else to criticize. He’s played in a pro style offense, nice completion percentage, solid arm strength, good football IQ. The injury risk just scares the hell out of people because no one wants Sam Bradford 2.0. A guy who flashes but can’t stay on the field.

I dont think the processor is slow but he is trying to play hero ball too much on a questionable talent team.

I think he will quickly learn to throw the ball away up here and pick his battles better.

People try to knock Barkley for trying to play hero on a bad offense by trying to hit homer in type runs, but it’s ok for Rosen to take shot cause he’s trying to play hero???

Can’t see Rosen being the pick...
if you want to hear more from Jim Mora
Rocky369 : 4/24/2018 4:12 pm : link
some draft segment last night on QBs, he made the statement that a QB either fights for a play or throws it away, and that he definitely prefers the one that stands in there.
I don't necessarily want a QB
GeorgeAdams33 : 4/24/2018 4:31 pm : link
but I agree with Nick Whalen on the order of preference

Unless he gets hurt and then your season is over unless you are lucky enough to have a Nick Foles type backup to pick up the pieces. But yes, take all kinds of shots franchise QB!
