So much has been said about Barkley's performance against Rutgers being a reason not to draft him. 14 carries for 35 yards. I went and looked at the tape of his carries. I saw some plays where defenders were in the backfield before he even got the handoff, and sometimes making one (or two) player miss, only for another defender to be there to make the stop.
I have put the timestamp for each play to use with the attached YouTube video.
FIRST QUARTER
6:11 left: Loss of 6 yards (0:57). Defender on top of him as soon as he gets handoff
SECOND QUARTER
10:50 left: Gain of 1 yard (1:28). Delayed handoff, first contact was behind LOS.
7:04 left: Loss of two yards (1:53). Defender shot through the hole, Barkley avoided the tackle but a second defender was right on top of him.
4:39 left: Gain of 1 yard (2:02). Had a defender waiting for him on the outside, tried to cut inside, second defender broke out of a block and made the tackle.
2:41 left: Gain of 3 yards (2:20). Handoff from the shotgun, defender made contact at LOS, momentum carried him 3 yards.
THIRD QUARTER
10:24 left: Gain of 11 yards (3:09). Spun out of one tackle, broke a second tackle.
8:39 left: Gain of 3 yards (3:43). Not much of a hole, pushed for 3 yards
7:24 left BONUS PLAY: Reception of 21 yards (3:51). Pass to Hamilton, who laterals back to Barkley at the 22, hurdles over a defender at the 7, down at the 1
6:43 left: No gain (4:14). Tripped up at the goalline
6:03 left: Gain of 1 yard. TD (4:21). Easy touchdown.
1:47 left: Gain of 4 yards. TD (4:55). Touchdown run, play stands on review
FOURTH QUARTER
11:52 left: Gain of 7 yards (5:07). Bounced the play outside to avoid tackle.
11:17 left: Gain of 3 yards (5:16). Pitch right, avoids a tackle 2 yards behind LOS, broke out of 2nd tackle at LOS, third defender made the tackle
9:18 left: Gain of 2 yards (5:32). Picked up 2 on 3rd and 1, seems to give himself up after passing the sticks.
8:42 left: Gain of 7 yards (5:40). Juked behind LOS to avoid tackler, met by 2 defenders after 5 yards, pushed for 2 more

It's just one game and it's a TEAM game at that.
Every back has at least one of these games...
You actually expect me to look at what transpired?? Pfft!
Does he have to be Superman on EVERY play or EVERY game. Can he take a break on a lopsided, mismatch of a game?
Well, since his slobbering fans insist he's the single greatest football player to ever grace a field with his presence....yeah
If you want to slam him for something from that game, he screwed up royally on the opening kickoff.
Why focus on the positive with Barkley. I have a better idea, lets count all the national championships Darnold, Rosen, Mayfield, Allen and Jackson have been to. That would be important information I would think. I mean great QB's get you championships right?
He's Reggie Bush with 25 lbs. Useful plsyer- yes. "Generational"?-hardly.

Guess we should just sign Tim Tebow then. I don’t remember Brady or Peyton winning any college championships wither

Idk Reggie bush plus 25 pounds sounds like an amazing player to me
McSorley broke more tackles than Barkley did
My issue with Barkley is his vision
It appears that he runs to contact rather than avoiding contact
Barkley also does not split contact and fall forward
If he is not running in space he is going down
I am concerned that Barkley will never live up to his hype
1) Penn State's O-Line can't block anyone, especially in those zone read schemes
2) Rutgers D is pretty good, especially when they had 7 or more in the box - LOL
3) Saquon has tremendous awareness as a runner
4) Saquon is TREMENDOUS in the passing game both as a receiver and as a blocker
5) A negative, and I've said it before, he leaps way too much to avoid contact
6) He knows how to fall, and how to gain any extra yardage he can on a play
I'm sorry, but for me, this video only sells him as the pick more to me - it doesn't do the opposite!!

Point is, the QB's aren't as good at their position as Barklwy is at his. Truth. Suck it!

Barkley is overrated, but the post is about this specific Rutgers game. As a PSU fan, I watch every game. This game was played without the PSU starting LT (out for his 3rd or 4th game) and Rutgers forced McSorley to beat them through the air. They had 8 and 9 guys in the box for much of that game. But McSorley stepped up with 3 TDs and the game was over by the end of the 3rd. Rutgers was going nowhere on offense that day. I think they had about 180 total yards.
