Two days out...

ThatLimerickGuy : 4/24/2018 5:33 pm
Go ahead and kill me because I know that's how it goes here but I know that at least SOME people appreciate any sliver of info.

Agents around the league apparently by this time each year can just mark down who the Giants are looking to grab. Sometimes they have thrown out smokescreens that catch a few people, but all in all in retrospect we know this since in the past it has cost us Leonard Floyd and Jack Conklin and left us with Apple and Flowers.

This year, despite the #2 pick my agent source says while there is real chatter about 2 players, that nobody has any real indication of which way the Giants will go.

Those 2 players? Sam Darnold and Bradley Chubb, in that order. I asked about the Barkley hype and that's supposedly a plan to force the Browns to take him @ #1 to get them Darnold, but that Barkley would be in play if the Giants trade down to the middle of the top 10, where Barkley's value really lies, as he is exactly a Giants type player- very clean prospect.

Go ahead. I'm ready.

**Grain of Salt alert** This agent source did proclaim that the Giants loved Myles Jack, so there is that.

I guess we'll see if this has any merit.

chubb at 2 isnt a great pick, his value is also around 4-8 imo....

darnold sure.
Wont comment whether its rigt or wrong
eli4life : 4/24/2018 5:38 pm : link
Because quite frankly nobody knows but I dont see DG as a guy who would play these type of games. He comes across to me as a no bs straight up kind of guy

Not saying I do or dont want Chubb we have one pick if hes the guy they absolutely love you take him. Dont get cute and say we have to move down a few spots to take him thats how you lose out all together.

Personally Barkley Chubb Darnold or Nelson and Im happy. Put a gun to my head its Barkley but hey thats my opinion
Heard the same...
Big Blue Hokie : 4/24/2018 5:46 pm : link
Dont crucify me if wrong but I have a good friend who has a connection in an NFL front office and the names they keep hearing around #2 for the Giants are Darnold or Chubb. I would be disappointed if Chubb was the pick.

Dont shoot the messenger, just passing along what I heard.
I'm hoping this is correct
bigblue12 : 4/24/2018 5:46 pm : link
And the thinking makes a ton of sense. Taking a RB at #2 is lunacy in my opinion.
Thanks
Ross : 4/24/2018 5:47 pm : link
I appreciate all info.

Darnold,Chubb..or trade down.
thanks for the info
Strahan91 : 4/24/2018 5:47 pm : link
this makes a lot of sense to me. The giants definitely love Chubb and Gettlemen loves taking DL with his first round picks. Darnold is also the cleanest of the QB prospects and the most "Giants-like"
Darnold is a lock at 1, DG is on the clock in all probability
GFAN52 : 4/24/2018 5:53 pm : link
All the Cleveland beat reporters have said pretty much the same thing.

Heres what Browns writer @NathanZegura projects on teams website for No. 1 pick:

QB Sam Darnold - All along I have believed it would come down to Darnold or Baker Mayfield. I do think Mayfield was given incredibly strong consideration, but...Darnold too promising to pass.
Chubb makes...
Strip-Sack : 4/24/2018 6:05 pm : link
a ton of sense...can get a RB in Rd 3 like Penny, Oline in the second....pass rushers are few and far between and Chubb really checks all the boxes.
My personal preference would be
bigblue12 : 4/24/2018 6:09 pm : link
Darnold
Trade down
Chubb
Nelson
Barkley
I would prefer
Spyder : 4/24/2018 6:14 pm : link
Chubb after a trade down only. If he's gone they should snatch Nelson.

If they can't stay high enough for Nelson or Chubb via trade down, then go Barkley or the QB they like the best at 2.
Is this the same source that says Rosen isn't going top 10
ZogZerg : 4/24/2018 6:15 pm : link
and may drop to 23?
So Darnold looks like the pick
George from PA : 4/24/2018 6:16 pm : link
Chubb at 2 seems like worse value than Barkley and a worse scheme fit.

Darnold or trade down...which I am fine with.....trading with Denver would secure either Chubb or Barkley
TLG, thanks
aimrocky : 4/24/2018 6:17 pm : link
For the info. Hope youre wrong on Chubb, but I always appreciate your insight.
Chubb at 2 is really my only night destroyer
BlueHurricane : 4/24/2018 6:23 pm : link
If they take a QB it means they are sold on him.

If they take Barkley Id be ecstatic with the offensive firepower we could potentially have.

Trade down and I could live with It but it better be a HUGE haul.

Chubb in the defense we have run the previous number of years would be one thing. Chubb in this new D is a non starter. No thank you.

I am fully convinced that darnold goes 1.

If so, Im hoping they love Rosen, but if not.....trade back! There are a few top level position players at various positions and who knows, maybe a qb drops.
Its two days

out, and hardly a whisper about 2 of the top 7 players in the draft-and both are high character local kids

Quenton Nelson and Minkah Fitzpatrick

and each plays a position of great need.
Since
AcidTest : 4/24/2018 6:40 pm : link
the Browns will draft Darnold, that leave Chubb. I wouldn't hate drafting him at #2, but the Giants should at least explore a trade down, even if it means losing him. Chubb is a great prospect, but he is best suited as a 4-3 DE, and doesn't have elite bend around the edge.
Thanks

This lines up with what JonC
bradshaw44 : 4/24/2018 6:42 pm : link

I could be fine with Barkley, Chubb, Nelson, or a trade down
PatersonPlank : 4/24/2018 6:43 pm : link
They all work for me. In fact a trade down where we can get a number of high picks may be the best.
Thanks TLG

I am really hoping this is smoke
stoneman : 4/24/2018 6:54 pm : link
if true, CLV would have no need to trade down to assure Barkley. I was hoping for this short trade down or maybe Denver keeping a low profile and a trade with them.

Rest of the top ten are set at QB. Not a fan of 12, but there is always hope of a pre-draft trade that sets the BUF pick lower.

Do you mean trade up?
No Chubb at 2
nochance : 4/24/2018 7:05 pm : link
Those wanting Chubb for the Giants say that he can and has played OLB in a 3-4 defense. That is like saying Eddie Van Halen can play Bass. Try comparing him to Von Miller and he is no where as fast or has the quick twitch. A simply good to solid OLB picked at #2 is almost a bust
if they take Chubb over
Peter from NH (formerly CT) : 4/24/2018 7:11 pm : link
Barkley I will be surprised and sad...

A QB is a whole different thing
Chubb at 2 would be the worst choice they could make

Thanks TLG.

This makes sense with the financials. Gettleman just ate a huge contract at DE and has another at QB right now.

Inking a plus player at either position is a tremendous financial advantage. Money that can be invested in Beckham, Collins or a UFA OL next year.
I could see it..
Sean : 4/24/2018 7:20 pm : link
There is so much smoke around Barkley, almost too much. Id prefer a trade down attempt if NYG goes Chubb.
If they want Darnold it shows that they want a QB
Rudy5757 : 4/24/2018 7:24 pm : link
which makes me happy. If we dont get the guy we want then I would prefer a trade down and take either Chubb, Barkley or Nelson. If possible stay in the top 8.

Thanks for the info. Keep sharing on dont worry about what people think. Not everyone in the organization knows whats going on and it could be a smoke screen but I appreciate it either way

Yeah, if they trade down to 4 or 5, he might be worth it.

TLG.
Not sure I'd be a fan of Chubb at #2. I know Sy'56 likes him a lot and believes he can play both 4-3 DE or OLB in the 3-4.
If thats the case
UberAlias : 4/24/2018 8:06 pm : link
Then the future of the franchise is in the hands of Cleveland.

My gut tells me its been QB all along. I keep coming back to the silence on QBs. Its not like we are hearing they dont like the QBs. We hear zero. Its under lock and key. And the Eli has years left narrative is hard to believe. Its a short sighted notion and these are smart men. Everything is aligned, the time is right to move one.
DG's genitalia
Sec 103 : 4/24/2018 8:38 pm : link
should fall off if the pick is Chubbsy
Even if Chubb is as good as the Giants think he is
Mike from SI : 4/24/2018 8:45 pm : link
The offense could use a playmaker (Barkley) or QB of the future (pick one) or even dominant OL (Nelson) right now more than the defense needs another playmaker--we still have OV, Snacks, Jackrabbit, Collins, and maybe/hopefully Ogletree.
Chubb is a clean prospect
Rjanyg : 4/24/2018 9:18 pm : link
We need a pass rusher so it kinda makes sense. Makes way more sense at pick 4 or 5 IMO

Yes
Is Chubb that good?
UberAlias : 4/25/2018 6:43 am : link
This really feels like one of those were smarter than everyone else picks. The media consensus has been Barkley is the best player in the draft. Teams obviously do like several of these QBs besides Darnold. There should be options to trade back and DG acknowledged they have had talks. Is Bradley Chubb really superior to all these other options? He seems like a pick to be happy with in the 4-7 range. I dont see him transforming the defense. Not in the way a franchise QB would or Barkley if the hype were legit and not in the way a haul of draft picks might.

I hope this is bait to try and force Cleveland into dropping Darnold to us.
Another Chubb
Mike Graves : 4/25/2018 6:59 am : link
Thread. I just cant. Have not scored more then 30
Points in a game since week 15 2015 but lets take a DE with the 2nd overall pick when the best running back in years is sitting there or a franchise QB for the next 10-15 years heck I would even take Nelson over Chubb

Exactly!!!!!! I should of read the full commemt before I posted mine. You are 100% on the money
It tells you how highly they think of Chubb

Chubb is in play at #2.

I love offense as much as the next guy,but when the Giants win, they win with Defense. Chubb is head & shoulders better than any other edge rusher available. I've seen a couple of "experts" rate him higher than Myles Garrett. Now,if it's true that the Browns want Darnold/Barkley & are willing to trade the Giants a 2nd or 2nds for the switch from 2 to 4,I'm all in. You'd be able to get Chubb & more!
better prospect than Garrett

I think Limerick's OP

is correct, Darnold or Chubb.
Rosen is of all that could fall a lot
micky : 4/25/2018 1:57 pm : link
Darnold, theres a lot of chatter of all QBs to be able to pick up on a teams system quickly.. doesn't grasp things quickly. Josh Allen may be the one.

Wouldn't mine Chubb but at 2?

Interesting take. It seems like a lot of the draftniks have made it a point to say that Chubb isnt the prospect Garrett was last year. Curious why you think that he is if you dont mind sharing?

Here's a good comparison...sides with Garrett but Chubb wins some categories and it's close...
