NFT: I love Jeter - but Didi is better

mavric : 4/24/2018 8:22 pm
All the talk of getting Machado and letting him play short and trading away Didi is nonsense. Jeter was the heart and soul of the Yankees for years and many of his deteriorating skills were winked at because of our love for the guy.

But I'll take the heat and say it first: Didi is better than Jeter, both defensively and offensively. The guy is friggin awesome!
No. Not yet. Nonsense
DennyInDenville : 4/24/2018 8:25 pm : link
Jeter was amazing.

Didi was good.

But Didi this season I agree i was thinking the same thing but it's still April let's just relax.
Post 2009 Jeter was pretty washed up

But Jeters career and Didi can't be mentioned let alone Didi > it's just not right and it's a sin to Jeter imo.

I love Didi and yes his start is MVP god like but let's breathe. Jeter is a legend who will have a monument etc etc.

Jeters late years sure were painful to watch though at times goodness.

Mariano was the opposite , guy was immortal
Let's talk in about
section125 : 4/24/2018 8:30 pm : link
12 more years...

Jeter is a no doubt 1st ballot HoF. May be unanimous and is rated one of the top 6 or 7 Yankees of all time.
Anyone who talks of trading Didi is an asshole.
BlueHurricane : 4/24/2018 8:30 pm : link
Guy is ascending still and a top SS already.

Better than late years Jeter is debateable but he has a looooong way to go be in the convo of young Jeter.

Good post, I think Jeter’s late career fade has diminished how people remember him a bit.

Jeter in his prime (roughly 98-04?) was awesome.
Wow. Just go away.

Well, yeah
Bramton1 : 4/24/2018 9:01 pm : link
Didi is better than end of his career Jeter. But In His Prime Jeter? No.

That being said, Didi is getting better and better. So let's keep an eye on his and we'll talk later. Like 10-15 years later.
If
mitch300 : 4/24/2018 9:18 pm : link
Didi has the same amount of at bats as Jeter, and continues to get better, he can have better numbers than Jeter. Big if’s.
Thats just a whole lot of stupid
blueblood : 4/24/2018 9:24 pm : link
lets ee Didi have an entire career first. Jeter in his prime was oustanding.. and will be a Hall Of Famer without question.
As an every day player (stats)
djm : 4/24/2018 9:53 pm : link
Yes Didi is better but Jeter had a 20 year career and was the glue to a five time champion.

So, yeah... might want to wait. But leave it to the yanks to replace a legend with a legit all star.
Jeter hits for higher average long term
djm : 4/24/2018 9:55 pm : link
Didi has more power. Both didn’t walk that much but got on base enough.
Didi's having a terrific year,
Mad Mike : 4/24/2018 9:56 pm : link
but let's not be dumb.
Didi is on fire, but RELAX
JoeyBigBlue : 4/24/2018 9:57 pm : link
Didi has never had an OPS season higher than Jeter’s lifetime OPS of .817 (including his washed up years). Let’s Relax. Didi has a long long way to go.
Lets not forget
TommyWiseau : 4/24/2018 11:00 pm : link
Didi's defense, its outstanding.
Didi is terrific
Peter from NH (formerly CT) : 4/25/2018 5:41 am : link
But Jeter was at his best in the biggest spots. Didi needs to be in the position to, and to do it, before you can start comparing the two.
Question: On a scale of 1 to 10...
M.S. : 4/25/2018 6:41 am : link

...how would you compare Jeter's early career at SS vs. Didi's?

(10 = Best; 1 = Worst)

Thanks in advance.

To be fair, in his first playoffs last season Didi acquitted himself very well. His 3 run jack to tie the wild card game...2 HR in game 5 vs Cleveland

As others have said, it’s no knock on Didi to say he just hasn’t done it for long enough yet for the comparison
Anytime you can
PaulBlakeTSU : 4/25/2018 7:51 am : link
Take a player with five seasons under his belt and only one above-average season the plate (per wRC+) but then use a one-month hot streak at the beginning of his sixth season to compare it to a HOFer who played for 20 years, you have to do it!

Didi has been another absolute steal by Cashman and he is getting better and better. Enjoy it and recognize this hot streak for what it is.
I should say, Didi’s first playoff game was the 2015

WC loss to Houston, but the point remains

I'm not even the world's biggest Jeter fan and I can still see how absurd this thread is. It's still April - Didi isn t going to slug .700+ for the season. He's a very good shortstop, maybe among the top 5 at the position. That's good enough that no one should feel the need for ridiculous hyperbole.

Not only that, but celebrate, instead, that Cashman found an ample replacement for an all-time Yankee. That’s not easy at all.

You know the saying - you’d rather be the man who replaces the man who tried to replace The Man.
I love Didi and everything he brings to the table
Stu11 : 4/25/2018 8:41 am : link
and loved what Jeter did for us but as most have said we have a long way to go to make this comparison. Jeter's greatness was the ability to raise his game to another level as the importance of the game went up. Didi had some monster hits for this team last post season. Lets see him do it for 10 more years.
sop it. whay oes stupid have start as soo as a hot streak comes
Victor in CT : 4/25/2018 8:42 am : link
I love Didi, he's everything we could hope for and ALOT more, but talk to me after 10 years of sustained play at this level.
are you insane?
GiantsLaw : 4/25/2018 9:01 am : link
Yeah you're remembering too much of end of career Jeter
GMENGianni : 4/25/2018 10:12 am : link
In his prime, there was no one you would rather have on your team. He was THE guy in baseball. The most clutch, WAY above average defensively, great hitter and not to mention a heart throb.

Didi is fantastic, no doubt about it, but he has a LONG way to go before taking the crown from Jeter.
Debate all you want,
Photoguy : 4/25/2018 10:48 am : link
but who here isn't ecstatic that the Yankees were able to secure an almost seamless transition? I'm loving this, and I am a Jeter fan.
Didi is probably
PaulBlakeTSU : 4/25/2018 11:31 am : link
my favorite player on the team. I love his swing, I love how positive he is despite the shoes he had to fill, and I love watching him go to his left (which plagued Jeter tremendously). I just find it appalling that the OP could not only have such an absurd and embarrassing take, but that he had to start a thread about it.
Isn't Jeter like a first ballot
SFGFNCGiantsFan : 4/25/2018 11:33 am : link
HOFer?

This thread seems, uh, a bit over the top.
I liked Didi when a lot of people here were burying him
Greg from LI : 4/25/2018 12:03 pm : link
It's easy to forget now, but in 2015 when he got off to a terrible start, he was being ripped to pieces in BBI Yankee threads. There were only a few of us who said to give him some time.

It's still absurd to compare him to Jeter at all, let alone say he is the better player.
No
EricNY33 : 4/25/2018 12:49 pm : link
He's not. Preposterous thing to say.
