What Giants are saying vs. what they are doing (scouting)

Big_Blue_in_the_Bronx : 4/25/2018 6:41 am
All the things the coaches, ownership and GM have been saying really seem to point to Barkley and Chubb. However what they are doing seems to point another way the 2 positions theyve scouted most heavily (from reports) are both QB and then RB (Barkley but then the most pre draft resources scouting all the lower guys after him).

They have spent more time with the top 4 QB than almost any other team and Mara flew 3000 miles to personally go to dinner with Rosen.

I love that they seem more tight lipped than they have ever been and leaks are hardly getting out.

I was one of those that said no way they pick Rosen (doesnt seem their type and all) but I cant say for sure they wont.

Giants spent most time scouting RBs (page 4) - ( New Window )

What are the Giants saying?

They haven't really said much of anything. Gettleman said things like, "the player needs to be a gold jacket player, the player needs to be worth the number 2 pick in any draft, if you miss on a QB you set your franchise back 5 years."

That last quote doesn't mean they won't take a QB. But it does mean they need to nail the pick hence putting the time in to really evaluate the players. I dont see that as contradictory in any sense.
They have spent a lot of time on the QBs

However, maybe they determined, from all of the information they have gathered, that all 4 (or 3 remaining) have flaws and that they have convinced themselves that none of them will be "great" so they can go forward with Chubb or Barkley. They could have very well wanted to "love" one of these QBs, but it just didn't happen.

We'll find out soon.
So says you

But if they were soo sold on Barkley why waste so much time scouting all the other guys. Also why not send at least a rb coach to his pro day? Cause we didn’t. Some of you are gonna be so mad when you find out barkley was always a smoke screen

As Eric and others alluded to Robbie, alot of their words and reports seem to be quite effusive towards Barkley and Chubb . But on the QB side, alot of numerous quotes about caution of drafting the right QB ,Eli has years left, Accorsi talking about how there were almost no flaws with Eli's report (reading between the lines how their are more flags with these guys), you need to have a very strong conviction, continuous praise of Webb etc. etc.

“Knowing the league and knowing Twitter and the fans and the media and talk radio and on and on and on, everything lends me to believe what I read, what the Giants say, that I don’t think under any circumstances they’re gonna take a quarterback with that second pick. That’s my guess.”

But therein lies the conundrum. They have scouted the heck out of these Qbs. Know it could be to come back and say we did extensive research and feel none of them were the right fit for us.

But that would likely be a mistake at least mitigated a bit short term if we draft Barkley and he has a Zeke/Gurley/Fournette or better like effect on the offense.

Man, that site is terrible. Did they have to make a simple mini-camp update into a tweet slideshow? (Yeah, I know for the clicks.)

If they draft a QB, Giants feel Eli is basically done.

But what, they are saying is the opposite....So they feel they plan to build up the roster to compete with Eli...for one more run.

We will know rather rather quickly.

and all the scouts that drafted Flowers and Eli Apple are still in the building. The only new guys are the GM and HC. Forget about what terrible players they both are how could the Giants draft such terrible football character people and it wasn't a secret that both guys had serious football character issues when they were picked.
Basically..

trying to parse through who the team has scouted based on 3rd party reports and a shitty website like 24/7 Sports is fruitless.

They've scouted hundreds of players, spanning all the positions.

Wow if that is really Giant thinking then quite likely we do NOT go QB b/c almost all key decision makers from ownership, to Gm, to coaches have said he has 'years' left.

They really are a shitty website who contribute nothing. There sole purpose is to generate clicks. They rehash content from other sources and typically provide a dramatic headline to capture their audience. The audience will then click through the content and usually leave thinking what a waste of time. But that same audience will click on another of their "articles" in the future. It is as if the target audience never learns. 24/7 Sports is one notch above Clutchpoints - both trash. As soon as I recognize the domain of a URL driving traffic to either site, I never click through.
