NFT: Braves promote Ronald Acua

Jay on the Island : 4/25/2018 9:25 am
Mark Bowman has confirmed Ronald Acua will join the Braves on Wednesday. Acua set the baseball world on fire during spring training, but the Braves elected to play the service time game and send the 20-year-old outfielder to Gwinnett. He was eligible to debut 10 days ago but the club elected to hold him down in the minor leagues as he struggled early on. Acua is batting .300 (12-for-40) over his last 10 games and went 2-for-4 with a double and walk on Tuesday night.

I'd be fine with the Giants taking Acuna at #2 at this point.

He wasn't

exactly mashing against AAA pitching to start the year, so I find the timing of the promotion a bit odd. We'll see how he does versus tougher MLB pitching.

He started off slow but he has been hot over the past 10 games. The timing is a bit odd as Tucker and Markakis are playing well. I am wondering if he might see some time in CF due to Inciarte's slow start.
Mike Soroka will reportedly be up soon
Jay on the Island : 4/25/2018 10:59 am : link
He could replace Wisler if Wisler pitches poorly.
The timing is right.
GiantFilthy : 4/25/2018 11:07 am : link
Acuna has been heating up and look at Tucker's last 10 or so games since his hot start. His second half of this short season is nearing the Mendoza line.
Can't wait to see Soroka!
GiantFilthy : 4/25/2018 11:08 am : link
Braves need to bring some kids up now and change up this bullpen. It's a walkathon in there.

Tucker has cooled off and Inciarte is playing better. No chance they sit Ender so Tucker can play more.

Outfield will be Acuna, Ender, Markakis
Definitely excited for Acuna
JoeMoney19 : 4/25/2018 11:17 am : link
And btw, what Vlad Jr. is doing in AA as a (just turned) 19 year old is insane. I think the plan was to keep him in the minors all season but I wonder if he forces Toronto's hand at some point this year.
this must be exciting for Braves

Luiz Gohara is close also so once Soroka and Gohara arrive I assume McCarthy might move to the BP which would be a big boost. It's that final BP spot that is killing them. That and Snitker's bullpen usage which has been horrendous. They have a couple of outstanding RP's in AA that appear ready. Snitker has to use Jesse Biddle more. Freeman was a great story last season but he needs to assume the LOOGY role. I wouldn't be against using Gohara in the BP if the Braves are in the hunt.
It is nice
Jay on the Island : 4/25/2018 11:26 am : link
to finally be benefiting from the rebuild.
Albies, Swanson, Newcomb, and Minter are playing well. I don't think the Braves will win a WC spot this season but all the experience that these kids gain this year will play a big role in the future. The Braves will also have over $70 million to spend in the FA market.

interesting.. the equivalent would be Barkley.

Filthy is on record for wanting Barkley as the #2 pick. set in stone.
Braves now have the two youngest players in the majors.

Once Soroka is up they will have the three youngest. All three hyped as cornerstone pieces. Fkn exciting.

Vlad Jr. in AA .910 OPS
Miguel Andjar in the Majors .919 OPS
Enormous sample size there.

AAA 243 AB's .344/.393/.538 940 OPS, 44 steals
AFL 99 AB .325/.414/.639 1.053 OPS Youngest MVP ever
I'm wondering where Acuna will land in the lineup
Jay on the Island : 4/25/2018 1:31 pm : link
Inciarte
Albies
Freeman
Markakis
Suzuki
Acuna?
Swanson
Flaherty/Camargo

Soon he should supplant Markakis in the cleanup spot.
Austin Riley is tearing it up in AA
Jay on the Island : 4/25/2018 1:37 pm : link
The notorious slow starter is .373/.432/.761 for a 1.194 OPS. Riley has only committed one error this season and reports about his defense are excellent. He should shoot up prospects lists.
Riley looks like he has finally turned the corner
GiantFilthy : 4/25/2018 1:42 pm : link
and is showing consistency. An eventual Freeman, Ozz, Dansbae, Riley infield is HOT.

Bourjos just got DFA'd also.

Good, hopefully Culberson is next.

The odds of that happening are about as good as the Browns taking Allen 1st overall.

Lineup:
1 - Ender Inciarte (L) CF
2 - Ozzie Albies (S) 2B
3 - Freddie Freeman (L) 1B
4 - Nick Markakis (L) RF
5 - Johan Camargo (S) 3B
6 - Ronald Acuna (R)
7 - Dansby Swanson (R) SS
8 - Carlos Perez (R) C
9 - Matt Wisler (R) RP
Tyler Flowers will replace Carlos Perez soon
Jay on the Island : 4/25/2018 2:09 pm : link
That should be a nice boost for the pitching staff as Flowers is a much better pitch framer than Suzuki. It's hard to take Suzuki's bat out of the lineup though.
Man, the 6 spot with Dansby right behind him
GiantFilthy : 4/25/2018 2:09 pm : link
is perfect to start. I thought for sure Snit was just going to stick the kid in the 8 spot with no protection.
No doubt.

He's so inconsistent. I think he will eventually put it together but that'll probably be in a year or two.
I thought Albies might end up similar to a younger Jose Reyes

One comp that for Albies is Altuve. For the record I am not saying that Albies will be as good as Altuve but their style is similar.
Why is Culberson still on the roster?
