The owners care about the bottom line, unless the players have a financial incentive, I don't think a collective agree could ever be met.

First of all, not every NFL player is a millionaire.
And if they are why can’t they protest like a non millionaire?

They might have been egged on by someone (who I won't mention as to not make this poltical) - but people turning off TVs, not buying merchandise, cancelling season tickets - is a business nightmare.
