It was just an experiment for a few games this April. Tonight's game is the last game that will have a 6:35 start.

He switched to 99 with the Twins, apparently. Maybe he thinks he's Aaron Judge. What a maroon.
Side question: if Stanton keeps struggling, do you drop him again once Bird comes back to maximize the L,R and the top 6 hitters? Have Sanchez at 4, then Bird, then Stanton, then Austin?
As I type this Austin drives another one.

ship prospects away for a top notch SP and yanks will be dangerous
Or not.
Nice to watch.
Nice to watch.
Yup.
agree that's what the situation called for, and he finally threw the curve - for ball 4. He has a hard time getting his breaking ball in for a strike.
That said, he really battled there. He's got a lot of movement on both his fastball and his breaking stuff - just very little control

Here would be nice.

And it was a good one. Call coulda gone either way.
Btw, is Logan Morrison the new Kevin Youkillis in terms of being a cry baby? That pitch was absolutely there. Ump should tell him that he looks like the hunchback from 300.
He pitches scared.

I know, what is up with that guy.
Kinda question bringing Green back again here. I wouldn't be afraid to pull him if he looks like he needs it.
No disagreement on your first point. But it's not the fastball that's the problem, it's throwing his breaking stuff for strikes.
I think his pitch count was low through 1 1/3...but Boone pushed him too far here
Yup.
Montgomery for the 4 game sweep tomorrow afternoon!
Not nibbling. That implies control. Gray can't control his breaking stuff.
Quote:
Gray was still nibbling and walking until he was pulled? I see Sano tagged him in the 1st.

Crazy.
Glad to still get a win despite it. This lineup just wears out pitchers. Wish we could play Minnesota more often

and as a small guy maybe he can't do it with control. And lets not confuse his stuff with the likes of Ron Guidry. Maybe he should take a touch off his fastball and hope he gains more control. Otherwise he is pen bound after a few more starts a la Harvey

I just don't think he's starter material -- unless he's hurt or something. Is he?
I never watched him pitch much when he was in Oakland, but as far as I know he’s always been a big curveball pitcher...so until he figures out how to throw one more than 55 feet consistently, we can probably expect more of these kind of starts.
Yeah that was painful to listen to.
* I'd hate to move him, but maybe let Judge play LF and Stanton RF until GS gets more acclimated?? I think Judge could play anywhere.
* I LOVED the Didi bunt!! I wish more teams would do that. I would help keep the defense honest and put a little fun back into the game.

He just might be one of those guys who doesn't work in a big market area on a team with expectations. It's easy to be calm in Oakland. Nobody is watching.
