Some BBI Ground Rules for the Draft

Eric from BBI : Admin : 4/25/2018 10:25 pm
As old timers know, since the establishment of BBI in 1995, the draft has always provided special challenges for the site. We get more traffic during the draft than any other time of the year, including when the Giants are in the Super Bowl. In some cases, the traffic has crashed the server.

Because of this, we have always had special rules during the draft on the site.

(1) We will start official discussion threads for each round and each Giants pick. Please do not post repetitive threads on the same topics. You will run the risk of having them get deleted.

(2) We will allow important breaking news threads.

(3) Most importantly, do not overreact to players being or not being picked by the Giants. No one on this planet knows how these players will pan out and that includes you. Strong opinions are fine, but leave your anger and ego at the door. This is especially true as we move into the latter stages of the draft.

Have fun! This is going to be a very interesting draft.

Seriously, thanks for all your great work. You and the other moderators. I know draft night is crazy. Just be sure to give the hamster a lot of extra lettuce.
Can we get a pinned Fire Reese thread
robbieballs2003 : 4/25/2018 10:29 pm : link
just as a ceremonial bitching thread? It is kind of like a way to let posters metaphorically throw their remote through their tv.

Fingers crossed. I think we did OK the last couple of years but we have the #2 pick this year. I expect the site will be incredibly slow around 8:20.
There will be outrage regardless of who the pick is.
Mike from SI : 4/25/2018 10:37 pm : link
Can we just sticky an "Outrage" thread?
Should also be noted picks usually get posted here
mfsd : 4/25/2018 10:37 pm : link
A couple minutes before they’re announced on TV. I like hearing round 1 and 2 at least announced, so plan to stay off for 10-15 min or so before the pick.

If you’re regularly refreshing the site here, expect to have the pick spoiled. Just the nature of the internet age
Although the DG regime seems tighter with info
mfsd : 4/25/2018 10:41 pm : link
maybe the media won’t get the pick before it’s announced

I'm glad you brought this up because every year we get complaints about how we need to stop people from spoiling the picks. We can't do that. So either get off BBI right before the Giants pick or someone start a non-spoiler thread (which folks have done the last couple of years).
Eric, we appreciate the job you do every year on draft day.
Ira : 4/25/2018 10:43 pm : link
Your point about things being more active this year is very well taken.
I'd expect this one to be the highest volume to this site
micky : 4/25/2018 10:54 pm : link
since probably 2004 one. Considering the importance of picks and uncertainty that this has. The franchise most important draft in awhile imo

Already seeing an influx of April 18 accounts.
How many of them are users with their normal trolling, and how many of them are outside fans coming to foul up the boards, I wonder.
And please for the love of God

Keep all posts relevant to the draft pick IN THAT SPECIFIC THREAD.

Nothing ruins Draft Day than multiple threads addressing the same thing. You don't get a Gold Star for each new thread, just post it in that players designated thread
I expect a total BBI meltdown regradless of the pick
JohnB : 4:39 am : link
simply because there are SO many opinions as to what to do at #2. There will be a lot of bitching and moaning because what they thought as the best path wasn't taken, whatever that may be.

It happens every year

Someone posted a week or so back a excel worksheet summarizing sy56 picks...And was going to update for the draft.. Here's a reminder hoping he will put on the forum.. I think it would be great addition for the draft party I'm having..

It's in the Sy thread pinned at the top. It's been there for a couple of weeks.
#3 is interesting...

Won't be a total meltdown, as each possible pick has his advocates.
LOL..

Polite applause seems to be a better choice than debating without facts.

The number of people tonight who already have made their mind up on who they think is the right direction (and won't be proven right or wrong until well down the road) is going to be huge. Pro Darnold guys will deem the draft a failure if Cleveland "steals him" from us. Anti-Barkley guys will need new remotes tomorrow AM, etc.

Irrationality at its finest.

No of course not. But I'm trying to tap down the "Fuck Gettleman...fuck the Giants...how the fuck could they pass on ______ ... stupid idiots .... I'm done with this team" posts!
Joey..
that has to be in the running for the Post of the Year!!!

That's hilarious.

How about a moratorium on new accounts until the draft is over? Likelier that an asshole will sign up today and post excrement than an asshat to join and post breaking news.

It's how he writes his posts. Uh, he's funny.
Eric are you going to limit the # of threads?

If not, could the round threads with no spoilers be pinned during the round?

It will be the same as it has for years. Discussion round threads will be pinned at the top. As soon as the pick is revealed, I will post and pin the pick at the top. If you don't want a spoiler, I suggest you get off BBI before the pick.

Conflicting information. Net effect = no clue.

But obviously media thinks Barkley.

I bet $5 there will be over 10 repetitive threads after the first pick

But clicking "delete" is very easy.

Again, value-added threads won't be touched... but with so many posts and so much traffic during the draft, we don't want good threads getting lost by "look at me" threads.
Anyone of Darnold, Barkley, or Chubb

and I am a happy camper. Rome wasn't built in a day. If they do not go QB this year (although it will be much more expensive - draft picks to move up) - maybe next year or 2020?

Bluesbreaker : 4/27/2018 11:08 am : link
it sucked so when they announced the pick was in I would
bounce back to the Round #1 thread and refresh . I will
look for a better site than the CBS one tonight .
The reposting inside the thread just takes up good oxygen the reactions were down right ugly some of these people are so unhinged it's pretty sad that it's just a football draft that people make these nasty comments .
I don't think Barkley equates to Rocky Thompson .
