Stanford coach: I’d pick Sam Darnold over Josh Rosen but...

“If I was drafting a player, I would take Sam Darnold,” Shaw said Wednesday at AT& T Stadium, where he was working as part of the NFL Network crew. “The combination of [Rosen’s] injury issues, but then Sam’s athleticism and his ability to hurt defense with his legs, that’s the X-factor. That mobility is a huge X-factor.”

Shaw, however, made sure to say he could be convinced by his draft room to move to Rosen, who suffered two concussions last year and had a shoulder problem that cost him six games the previous season, if there was a consensus. He’s that high on both players who are expected to be taken high in Thursday night’s draft.

Quote:
“I think both guys have potential to be Pro Bowl quarterbacks, and even have Hall of Fame [potential],” said Shaw, who helped groom three-time Pro Bowl quarterback Andrew Luck at Stanford and was an assistant coach in the NFL from 1997-2006.

I agree with him

With the decline of O-line play in today's NFL you need a QB that is somewhat mobile; that would be Darnold. IMO, Rosen is a younger version of Eli. And although I am a big Eli fan, his lack of mobility really showed once the wheels fell off the Giants O-line. The team could pick Rosen, but they need to build a better line and improve the running game, or the results will be similar.
Rosen has quick feet

From playing loads of competitive tennis. He moves very well IN the pocket, and on the few occasions I've seen him run for a first down, he seems quicker than Eli's ever been. He doesn't improvise with his feet like Darnold, but he's not a stature back there either.

great coach. Wins games with tough academic restrictions and doesn't cry to the media all the time. Wish Notre Dame had a coach like that.
Rosen is more athletic than Eli, but not as athletice

Yeah, I agree. The immobility thing with Rosen is being blown out of proportion a bit. Its not as if he's as much of a statue as Kerry Collins was. He's probably more mobile than Eli...just not as mobile as the other top QB's in his class.
Brady is slow as shit
