Advanced Football Statistics Question

Essex : 4/26/2018 9:41 am
In baseball they have WAR, which is wins above replacement. Do they have a similar stat in football (I would figure it would be hard given the difference between the games). If they do, is there a generic number between say a pro bowl QB and a pro bowl RB. Would be interested to see what that number is if they have something similar.

Don't really exist in football for a lot of reasons, but the main reason is that sample sizes are simply way too small.

is spending a lot of money to try and find similar stats. They are combing through even the smallest of similarities in players and statistics to find them.

Are people who do this but from what I read it mostly works on defense where you can determine how much value a CB who puts up say “100 pass rating against” is equal to a edge rusher who can generate “xx pressure per snap” because you can normalize the value of each play in a vacuum

Eg
Generating a pressure is worth “XX yardage against or points against”
As is pass rating

Sample sizes and dependencies. As we've seen with the myriad Eli debates on this very board, it's difficult to separate cause/effect in many players' productivity.

Baseball, on the other hand, is a collection of individual matchups masquerading as a team sport.
Pro football reference has a version of WAR called
