Here's what we know about our 1st round intentions:

Keith : 4/26/2018 11:41 am
1. Outside of a very select few, nobody has any idea. It was reported last night that the Giants are being extremely secretive with their intentions. Only the owners, GM and HC know the pick. No coaches, scouts or other family members know.

2. All of the scouts and FO personnel LOVE Barkley. They spend the whole offseason trying to find a red flag or poke holes in his game and they couldn't find anything. When rumors come out that we view him as a perfect prospect, it's real.

3. When you look at last years draft or at least the month leading up to the draft and you hear Gettleman speak, he tells it like it is. It was widely reported last year that Carolina wanted a RB. They loved Fournette and McCaffrey and they ended up taking McCaffrey just like it was reported. Not only that, Gettleman didn't hide it.

Conclusion: As much as I hate to say it, I think Barkley is the pick.
I'll toast

to that!
What is the basis
Jay in Toronto : 4/26/2018 11:45 am : link
for your #2?

Also last year DG didn't have the #2 pick.
Here's What We Also Know
Giants34 : 4/26/2018 11:46 am : link
1) Carolina Had a Young Franchise QB;
2) Gettleman Was in More of a Win Now Situation;
3) In HIs Press Conference, he admitted that McCaffrey was right for them "at that time";
4) Gettleman said if you ask the right questions of the QB, you can get the answers you seek (paraphrasing)
I want Barkley

I was watching sportscenter last night and the reported said she spoke to a scout and the scout told her that all offseason they had a contest to see if anyone could poke a hole in Barkley and it was a running joke that nobody could do it. In the past, it was reported that the giants view him as a perfect prosepct and the report last night solidified that in my mind.

Regarding last year, I did a little research leading up to the draft to see what Gettleman was saying. Yes, they had #9, not #2, but there was no smokescreens, he told it like it was. He was honest with all of his answers and then they went and drafted a RB.
barkley is the most fun
family progtitioner : 4/26/2018 11:49 am : link
QB is best pick for the future. DE kinda boring but also smarter and more impactful than RB

All fair points and something I've considered as well. I'm hoping this is the case, but I don't believe it is.
I'd be surprised if Manning didn't know
FranknWeezer : 4/26/2018 11:50 am : link
whether Gettleman was about to pick a QB at the top of this draft. Certainly could be wrong, though.

You all think the Giants are a running back away from a superbowl? Because if the Giants mortgage the next decade plus for the next year or 2 anything less than a super bowl championship is a complete failure for the organization.

I'm having a lot of visions of Barkley being stuffed at the line by the eagles defense while Wentz throws for 400 yards and 4tds against the team and we have Case Keenum as our starting qb, with all Barkley fans lamenting how his organization got into the qb dark hole that haunts most franchises.

Why does he have to be the only piece? Why can't a dynamic RB be a huge part of the rebuild?
If a great RB is the missing piece

to put you over the top, Barkley is your pick. In the Giants situation, pass.
Get Barkley....all for it.
George from PA : 4/26/2018 12:04 pm : link
But at 4 or 5.....with some extra picks....it is doable. Make it happen DG!

Barkley with a weak OL....will not be a good idea...and have the mob in an uproar.

Getting Barkley and winning

Will be only way to make everyone happy.
apparently Giants fans think.
Nysportsfn13 : 4/26/2018 12:12 pm : link
You have to build your entire team in one year. Barkley is 21 years old, this "win now or future talk" is hogwash. No matter WHO they draft at 2 they are intended to be part of the damn future.
Nobody knows nothing
jeff57 : 4/26/2018 12:16 pm : link
And if Gettleman takes Barkley with Darnold and Rosen on the board, or not trading down, it'll show he knows nothing.
They don’t know the pick
est1986 : 4/26/2018 12:18 pm : link
They won’t know until they know Cleveland’s pick. I expect it to be a short and quick convo when we are on the clock but there will be a convo had, they won’t just turn in the card as soon as they are in the clock... they have definitely went over all the realistic scenarios for Cleveland at 1... so they will truly know the pick right after Cleveland picks and no sooner.

No, I think were a RB away from having the best prospect n this draft,. and restocking the OL. I dont do superbowl or bust, the idea is to field a respectable team that can compete, you do that by stocking up with talent.
Adequate franchise qbs grow on trees

Compared to perfect freaks like Barkley, he's beyond generational, he is The One.

Me too. I am thinking while a QB makes fiscal sense, Barkley makes us a better team right away. Very exciting if it happens.
my thoughts as of right now
hitdog42 : 4/26/2018 12:45 pm : link

the giants plan to listen to offers. there is no preset course there but they are certainly going to listen.

the bills could always trade twice, who knows- allowing an opportunity.

Barkley, Chubb, Nelson all viewed as top prospects as everyone knows.

similar to jonc- not heard anything on qb really the whole time.

thanks for sharing. if you had to guess, do you think not hearing anything the whole time on qbs is an indication that there's zero interest or interest but intentions are hidden? I realize if you guess, some may take that as something other than a guess so if you'd prefer not to I get it.
Thanks hitdog,

have you heard anything on OBJ extension or is it on hold with the draft?

not sure not hearing much on QBs means much
hitdog42 : 4/26/2018 1:05 pm : link
as i have said this one is clear as mud, outside of the idea they will certainly listen.
on the QB side i would think both darnold and rosen would be ion the gmen mold.

It's amazing that the talk around QB
aimrocky : 4/26/2018 1:48 pm : link
has been so quiet, considering how polarizing this crop is. I'm biased, but the fact that the Giants reportedly spent enormous resources scouting QB's leads me to believe they're purposely avoiding letting the cat out of the bag.
We know NOTHING
Matt M. : 4/26/2018 2:52 pm : link
I honestly don't think they have tipped their hands in terms of position, overall board, which QBs they like/don't like, etc.
I love it.

hitdog42 and JonC know nothing (or unable to say anything) so this will be fun tonight. (and we can get away from the TV early).

Each thread I read I change my mind on what I want. Best part is there are 4 legitimate great options:

1.) QB
2.) Barkley
3.) Chubb
4.) Trade down a little bit

You nailed it George. There is no reason to take Barkley at #2 when teams are begging to trade up (Denver is running a smoke screen on the "we want to trade down front.").
It's been said 1,000 times on this board - if they're not sold on a QB, then trade down to 4 or 5 and get some picks out of it..plus Barkley.
only new bit heard today
JonC : 4/26/2018 3:19 pm : link
Darnold is the one QB they like, so we'll see what happens if the Browns pick Mayfield or other. No word on pref between Darnold and Barkley (or Chubb).

You guys now know what I know, I've been buried today fighting an IT fire.
If the Giants can trade down to 4 or 5....
Milton : 4/26/2018 3:32 pm : link
...and still get Rosen, that'll be a dream come true. The key word being "dream" because it ain't happening, unfortunately. I'm not liking the tea leaves heading into the draft, but the tea leaves can be misleading (unintentionally, of course!).
