"Bus Cook, Brett Favre's agent, great story," the Heisman-winning QB said. "Every agent does the same thing, they give their resume, what they're about, all this stuff. Finally, when he was about to give me a chance to talk, he asked, 'So, when did Bob Stoops start recruiting you?' And I literally, I said, 'Excuse me?' And he repeated the question. And then I said, 'Yeah, I gotta go.' And I just hung up." Cook, who has an impressive list of NFL clients with the likes of Cam Newton, Myles Garrett and Jadeveon Clowney, shot himself in the foot by not doing his homework on the Heisman Trophy winner. Mayfield began his college career as a walk-on at Texas Tech before transferring to Oklahoma and joining the Stoops-led Sooners as a walk-on. "If you're going to pursue a guy and say that you want him, you want to be that guy that's going to be there for him, why not do your research?" Mayfield said. "And I get it, he doesn't need me, he's already made enough money, it doesn't matter, but at the same time, that just shows what'll happen if you go to those big agencies, those big places. There's no personal relationship, and that's always been important to me." Mayfield eventually signed with agent Tom Mills of Capital Sports Advisors — an agency with a less star-studded client list — for a more personal approach. |
He can't help himself. He doesn't know enough to give milk-toast answers to the media. He might be proud of his forthright honesty with everyone, but it will eventually cause him trouble instead of endearment.
Was thinking the same thing. Why name drop. Just tell the story without the name attached to it. He’s really not a smart kid and to me he comes off as a whiny little bitch who has rabbit ears
If I was his agent I'd tell the team Baker is never suiting up for the Browns. That's how you look out for a client.
Politely correct the guy and carry on.

Ugh his agent would be terrible if he didn't want his client to go #1 overall. He makes the most money at that spot and brings a hell of allot of more fame to his small personal firm.
Guy retells a story of something that actually happened, and he's the bad guy. OK. Same people that were probably roasting him for not being prepared for his Chargers work out, which is hilariously ironic.

His agent is apparently fine with him going to Cleveland when Broadway Baker would've been much more desirable. And in another situation so would Miami Mayfield or LA etc

In that division you have 3 teams with far far superior football programs. The Browns are on rebuild #10 in a dank decaying rust belt city. That's not where you want him to go (and he's not Lebron. Apples and oranges)
Forget the Jets. Muscle your way to Miami if you have to. Avoid the pit of misery known as Cleveland. At least in the AFC east you have the promise of the sun setting on the New England dynasty.

Look at the poster's handle who wrote this. Gross.
