Report: Giants owners want a QB at no. 2

EddieNYG : 4/26/2018 1:46 pm
The Giants Wire just posted this article, but the source is Walter Football so I guess just take this with a grain of salt (like anything else), but figured I would share it.

Quote:
Walter Football reports that Mara and Tisch would prefer to see a quarterback drafted at No. 2 overall on Thursday night, and not necessarily someone like Penn State running back Saquon Barkley.

The big mystery of the 2018 NFL Draft is what the Giants will do with the second-overall pick. I’ve heard that general manager Dave Gettleman has their top players rated Saquon Barkley, Bradley Chubb, and Quenton Nelson in the top three. However, I’ve also heard that the team’s owners want the organization to take a quarterback. If Sam Darnold does not go to the Browns, I’ve been told that ownership would not want Gettleman to pass on Darnold. That does not mean that Darnold or another quarterback will be the pick, but that is the latest scuttlebutt I’ve heard about the Giants.

to trade right?

It is completely possible giants leaked that to get teams to start bidding in the pick...

No way! Everyone knows that Mara and Tisch are telling anyone with a working ear that they HAVE to have a QB no matter what!

Gimme a break...

I'm sure this will lead to some insisting on doom and gloom if/when they DO take a QB, but it's more than likely this is a steaming pile of horse shit. PAr for the course. Is it fucking 8pm yet?

1. Mara said it November of 2017. Time to start scouting the college QB's.

2. You don't think the owners and Gettleman talked about the plans during the hiring process? Do people think they are coming to the conclusion now? I guarantee that it was discussed when Gettleman was hired.

Yes, but Gettleman can simply say that after all the film review and analysis none of the QBs are worth the #2 pick.

But it's not true there aren't any franchise qbs... There may be three.
I would be delighted with either Chubb or Nelson

Both will be All-Pros for years. Not interested in Barkley at #2 with talent like Chubb and Nelson on the board. If I thought Barkley was the next Dorsett or Marcus Allen (forget about Jim Brown or Sayers), I'd say, okay, take him. But I don't think he is.

I would say the smartest thing owners can do is hire good football people who have football backgrounds and have experience in scouting players and constructing rosters and leave them to handle the personnel.

Mara and Tisch have every right to make their opinions known. They own the team, it's their business.

But if they want it to succeed, they should hit the brakes right about there.

We've been laughing at Daniel Snyder for years now for thinking he's a football guy and getting involved in personnel. The Redskins have spent most of his tenure in the cellar of this division because he doesn't know what the fuck he's doing.

Ole Johnnie Mara is all in on the Eli Preservation Project.

Yup. I'm sure Mara wants to keep paying Eli 15-20 million dollars no matter what.

Keep thinking when your head in the sand. In the real world money talks, BS walks. That's not to say that Mara doesn't believe in Eli or want him to succeed here but your viewpoints on this are hysterical. Mara wants a younger cheaper QB that can sell jerseys and tickets and win games. You can bet your ass on that.

Given their relative rankings and evaluation scores, what makes you think that Chubb and Nelson will be all-pro's but Barkley not (that being you're only criterion for not drafting him)?
Would anyone be open to the following
Saos1n : 4/26/2018 3:09 pm : link
Brown - Mayfield

Trade #2 to the Jets for #3 along with their 1st next year

Jets - Darnold

Trade #3 to the Broncos for #5 and some more

Broncos - Rosen

Browns Trade #4 to the Bills, who take Allen

We end up with Barkley or Chubb anyways, along with a boatload of draft capital

Let the guy you hired to run the draft run the fucking draft.
Totally agree with you, but thought all along this could be the scenario. Mara is supposed to run the FB end of this partnership but may be going along with this. Anything is possible after what he did to his old time buddy Coughlin and ELI last year. Think it will be Rosen myself . Have for a while.

would take anything Walter Football says as remotely credible.
Walter Football is trash.

No reason to believe much of what's on there.

Rosen?

I think this is a scenario where Darnold is there at 2.

Thanks Jeff. I still expect the Browns to select Darnold so I guess it’s back to the Barkley rumors at 2.

I think Mara's drive for profitability is only matched by his sentimentality for Eli. So he likely thinks he can sell an enormous amount of Barkley jerseys...
Fuck ownership
EricJ : 4/26/2018 4:32 pm : link
They have been a big part of the problem. Mara should STFU and let the professionals make the decisions
These fucking idiots need to stay out of the way.
Jint Fan in Buc Land : 4/26/2018 5:35 pm : link
Regardless of whether or not you want a QB or Barkley you should agree ownership should pick the leadership and get out of the fucking way. This is how we got McAdoo.

Hearing there are #Jets coaches making a late push for Josh Allen. Buckle up, folks.

Must be those tweets.

Woody Johnson is part of the Trump adminstration so those tweets upped his rating on their board lol.
