Round 1 Mock with Full Giants Mock

Mr. Nickels : 4/26/2018 2:24 pm
Giants Picks:

1 Sam Darnold QB USC
I would trade down there are too many options but gun to head the smart decision is take the next franchise QB over the elite RB prospect and the pass rusher. I do not envy Gettleman. I am projecting Mayfield to Brown with the hype today but if Browns DO go Darnold the Giants again could trade down or go Barkley/Chubb.

2 Sam Hubbard DE/OLB Ohio State
Hubbard will play as an edge rusher in our new defensive scheme can play with hand in the dirt or in space. This is a huge need after trading JPP and with Vernon likely playing out this year on a prove it deal.

3a Braden Smith OG Auburn
Smith will start day 1 at Right Guard and fills a massive need.

3b Rashaad Penny RB San Diego State
Penny is a potential 3 down back and will compete right away with Stewart and Gallman.

4 DeShon Elliot S Texas
May have a need at Free safety next to Landon Collins and we flirted with signing Mathieu.

5 Austin Corbett OL Nevada
Can play any position on line probably best on the interior could be a Center Guard or compete for right tackle.

There is talk of him going early in round 2.
Really love Β

this draft. I like Rosen a bit more than Darnold, but I like Darnold a lot. Your round 3 is awesome.
agree on Β

Corbett.

I'd be happy to substitute Corbett over Smith.

And in 5, instead of Corbett, Tony Adams.
Yes Β

Good chance Corbett goes in round 2.

But I like the mock.

That'd work for me.

will never be available in the fifth round. The rest is fine.
Just way too much chance that a QB doesn't work out. Β

Too big of a gamble with the question marks surrounding every one of the top QBs. Either take a player or trade down.

Missing on a QB would set the Giants back a good bit.

If Chubb or Barkley are disappointments, they won't be a complete swing and miss. They will still have value. And trading down would give the Giants support across the board.

Miss on the QB and you get zero.
Nice Work Β

I agree. Also in round two, I think I'd take Lorenzo Carter over Hubbard. He's the kind of elite athlete that Bettcher likes to have at the 3-4 OLB spot. Not sure he's a pure pass rusher like a Chandler Jones, but maybe he can turn into one. There's a part of me that still enamored with Arden Key's talent too, but I recognize the risks are high with him.

I'd be happy with Penny. If Nick Chubb fell to the Giants in the third round, I'd love that, but it won't happen. I just have a feeling that Nick Chubb is going to be very good for quite a long time (as far as running backs go). His knee seems to be in fine shape and he's built almost perfectly for the RB position, and his combine numbers showed he's a lot faster and quicker than people tend to realize.
