If the Giants draft a QB; their night's not necessarily over

81_Great_Dane : 4/26/2018 2:41 pm
If the Giants take any of the top QBs, they can still get a "king's ransom" for him after the pick, if some other team wants him enough. So if they take a QB, I don't think the Giants' night is over until around the 10th pick. I doubt they'll drop back any farther than that. But up to then, I think they'll listen to offers.

Remember that the Chargers drafted Eli and the Giants drafted Rivers to trade him. Similar scenarios could take shape here. The Giants could take, say, Allen, and trade him to, say, Denver. Or Arizona.

In fact, I'd be a little surprised if the Giants take a QB at #2 and don't trade him. Not upset, just surprised. There's huge demand for these QBs, probably more than they're really worth at this stage of their development. The Giants could well choose to cash in on that.

I think if the Giants draft Chubb, Barkley or Fitzpatrick, then their night is over.

What do you think, everybody?
They Might Trade Up

Into the very bottom of the first round too.
That is overthinking it..

Take the player you want or trade down.
Only way that works ...

Is if they find someone (like AJ Smith found the Giants) who is DESPERATE for that particular QB - BEFOREHAND

agree this a real possibility. Target an OL that is projected to go late in the first.

You can no longer trade a player after they have been chosen. This rule changed in 2011. Only picks that haven’t been made yet can be traded.
That only happened because San Diego wanted it to happen that way

to not allow Eli to be selected by another team. They wanted that awkward moment for Eli to happen. So they would not trade the pick to the Giants.

Except for Gettleman explicitly saying he doesn't want to trade future assets to move up in this draft.
And none
NYBEN1963 : 4/26/2018 2:59 pm : link
of these QBs are Eli Manning or Phillip Rivers for that matter
and who are we to know ..
LC_21 : 4/26/2018 3:01 pm : link
that the Giants wont pick someone just because they know the players value is thru the roof.. Even if they love Barkley or Rosen or Darnold and end up w them but someone throws an outrageous offer at them post pick why wouldnt they consider it. It seems entirely possible

There is no sleeping tonight until the broadcast ends. If the run starts on OL in the mid 20s as many project we may also easily find them trading up

Tonight going to be a nail-bitter

He doesn't, nor does anyone else. Sure looks good in print though.

You know this how? Rivers wasn't some cant miss sought after QB prospect. Just because he became a great QB does not mean he was touted as such during the draft process
I didn't know that!

Interesting, I did not know that. But they can still trade back into the first if they see an OL they really like.
With 7 ish minutes to go
Coach LB : 4/26/2018 3:26 pm : link
on the clock the Giants were set to call Big Ben's name when the Chargers called to accept the deal with NYG and that's why the Giants drafted Rivers to complete the trade.

and his talent rating is Darnold at 7 as the top QB.

Didn't now that.

So, in the words of Emily Litella: Never mind.
Their night may not be over but they have wasted a pick on a guy

Barkley or trade down. Give ELI his shot with Webb as the backup. We can make a personnel killing with a desperate QB needing team. Ideally we get a #1 next year in the deal. We have to get a starter in this draft with our first pick as part of the deal. This is very doable IMO.
