Who was ok sacrificing the next decade for the next two years, are you all okay with anything less than a super bowl championship?
are you okay with passing on a SB championship in favor of mucking around with an okay QB for years because you si play had to have one, even if your valuation showed him not to be worth the pick?
we just got a really fucking good player who can possibly be as freakish as Beckham and instead of looking forward to how our offense willlook we are bitching about what 2020 will be like there will never ever be another QB prospect.
Why are we so quick to forget the value of having a quality QB? You're going to remember it really quickly when it's gone in two years.
Im not forgetting anything. I even said I wanted a QB but I guess you ignored that. Not sure why so many people cant grasp that the Giants didnt think he same as you about either these prospects, Elis ability, Webbs ability, or a mixture of all 3.
Exactly, would rather postpone finding Eli's replacement if it means having a set of weapons like this for his last few years. Put him to the test. Get some beasts upfront and if we suck we can get a QB later on. Darnold's turnover rate did scare me quite a bit. Saquon is not only safe, but if he scores like LDT did, you will forget about these QB prospects quickly.
is a phenomenal player. I just think that if the Browns offered #4, #33, and #35, that was the way to go. RBs tend to have short careers, and Barkley had a lot of carries at Penn State. But DG said he gave Barkley the same grade as Peyton Manning. This is a "win now" pick.
"More Gettleman on pos. value: I think a lot of thats nonsense. I think its someone who had this idea and got into the analytics of it and did all these running backs and went through their whatever. Hey, Jonathan Stewart is in his 10th year and hes hardly lost anything."

Really no sense debating it now. Giants have made their pick and time will tell whether they made the right choice or not.
All I know is that QBs went just before and just after the Giants' pick, so at least 2 of the top three (selecting) GMs thought the QBs were worth it.
but theres a draft in 2019 I believe, and I think another one in 2020. Theres also trades and FA. A jobber just won the SB. Brady, Brees, and Rodgers will be retired or on serious decline in 2020. Do I need to go on?
The league will be changing soon, if not already. Being explosive is a good thing, will only help a future rookie and will give us a pingers chance in every game, or a great chance to win every game if our D turns it around.
So many ways to win in this league and I love what I see from Brown/Bell.

or how an OBJ season-ending injury completely derailed an entire season.
Putting all your chips on the single most abused position is a huge gamble. It's completely reasonable to be irritated by this pick when the Giants could have easily extracted a couple extra 1st/2nd round picks (in addition to still acquiring an NFL-ready player!)

Passing on a SB?
Barkley guarantees nothing. Neither does drafting a QB. History does say it is easier to do so with an elite QB, though. Right now, the NYG dont have anything other than mediocrity and age at the position.
to move on, and stop complaining. It's absolutely not a disaster as some have said. That's just ridiculous. He's an instant upgrade to our desultory running game. Remember also that Barkley can line up as a slot receiver, which is important given that we have nothing behind OBJ (broken leg) and SS.

No guarantee that anyone this year is an elite QB. If the best QB is Alex Smith or Donovan McNabb, how many combined super bowl victories?

Im going to love watching Barkley run the wheel route out of the backfield
It is not a terrible pick. He will add excitement to the offense. As a receiver out of the backfield it will be exciting.
Sy also said Barkley was the best player in the draft
Quote:
The top player in this draft, something I have been saying since early October. Barkley is a generational talent that does almost everything at the top level. He is built to carry a load when he has to and has the versatility to impact the game in several ways. He can be a focal point of an offense much like what Elliot and Gurley have provided for DAL and LAR, respectively.
They are playing to win. But I dont think they will.
This roster isnt good enough to yield more wins than: Philly, Dallas, Green Bay, Minnesota, New Orleans, Atlanta, Carolina, Los Angels, San Francisco, Seattle, or Detroit. Your likely 6 NFC playoff participants will come from this pool.
It's only the 10th pick of the draft and you already know what the opening day roster will be? There is still a lot to happen with respect to: the draft, signings, camp, pre-season. The Giants just got significantly better.
You are responding to someone who would take the next Akili Smith just because he is a QB
Akili Smith blew cock. Darnold and Rosen likely wont.
way DG spoke, I'm confident that Webb was not a factor in the decision. They simply loved Barkley. He's certainly an exciting, dynamic, player, and had the highest grade on their board.
2. Giants Saquon Barkley, RB, Penn State:Widely regarded as the top player in this draft, he aced the scouting combine (4.4 40, 29 reps on bench, 41-inch vert) and posted 3,801 yards from scrimmage and 82 catches in his last two years for the Nittany Lions. Barkley is a bigger, faster version of Adrian Peterson coming out of college and instantly legitimizes a poor Giants ground game.
He forms a dangerous trio with Eli Manning and Odell Beckham and should help instantly return the franchise to contending status for the short run and long term. An every-down player with great speed, instincts and intangibles, there's no reason to expect Barkely won't make the same kind of rookie splash that Todd Gurley, Ezekiel Elliott and Leonard Fournette have had in recent years.

Gettleman: We all know he can catch the heck out of the rock. He can pick up the blitz. He's powerful, runs through tackles. ... This kid makes our quarterback better, our line better, our receivers better, our defense better. He's going to be great for our culture.
I'm just happy he called it "the rock" and not "the Duke"
doesn't strike me as a guy who's afraid of "swinging and missing." As I said, I would have preferred the purported deal with Cleveland for #4, #33, and #35, but that wasn't going to happen since DG gave Barkley a 9.0 grade. In the Giants.com clip he says that he told everyone to ignore calls.
There may also be another reason for drafting Barkley, and that is to help Webb. If Webb succeeds Eli, he will likely do so when Barkley is in his third year. That will help Webb tremendously in his first year as the starter. Webb isn't the bridge. Barkley is. He's the bridge between Eli and Webb. He helps Eli at the end of his career, and Webb at the beginning of his.
I like this pick the more I think about it. DG had a conviction, and took his player. Barkley is electric, and can be a slot WR.
I've watched every clip of Dave Gettleman since he became GM.
He is refreshing as hell. Down to earth. And pretty damn open about what he thinks.
And in hindsight he's been very straight forward.
He says he's studied Manning and it is his assessment Manning is still a top QB worthy of being Gettleman's QB for another few years. I trust Gettleman a heck of a lot more than anyone on BBI.
He says Barkley is a player "touched by the hand of God" and the highest graded player he has ever seen. EVER.
I like Gettleman. I trust Gettleman.
According to Gettleman, the Giants have a mature, SB winning QB. And just drafted the most gifted player in Gettleman's career as a GM.
And he did it the way I hoped. Without hesitation. Because the player he just drafted was, in Gettleman's own words, a generational talent. A player with no weaknesses. A player who instantly transforms the team. On the field and in the lockerroom. So says straight talking Dave Gettleman.
Sure as hell is good enough for me. I'm excited as heck.

Yes.
...love the player, love the talent, but I feel he was the wrong pick for this team at #2.
Needed to go QB in the worst way.
Dave Gettleman playing for the present with his first pick.
Quote:
Webb.
Should be a dman good offense at some point later in the season...
We better sign OBJ long term ASAP
Plus, we have a HC QB guru, and 2 G OCs, in effect.
If they can't make the O better with SB and OBJ, they will be here shorter than Mc.

Me too. The dramatics are out of control.
$trahan.
Steve Spurrier can take 11 DC sanitation workers and score 30 points every Sunday.
The Eli trade is an epic f*c#ing disaster and will set this franchise back for a decade.
The Jints are never winning anything with Major Tom as the HC.
Excellent. A quick run down the thread shows all the "right" guys are pissed about drafting Barkley. Feeling better about the pick by the minute...

Manning/Mara win out.
NO, WE'RE BACK!
NO, WE'LL SUCK FOR THE NEXT TEN YEARS!
NO, WE'RE A PLAYOFF TEAM NOW!
Don't ever change, guys.

So as we enter this extended drought, Im hopeful Marshall kills it at Tennessee and we finally use the top pick to draft him... ; )

LOLOLO
I did not want Darnold...look how far Rosen dropped.
Good pick. Hopefully the OL in improved...we certainly have the weapons if Eli has the time.

Peyton was given a 9.0 grade (a perfect score) by Gettleman.
He gave the same score to Barkley as a running back. Basically, he gave him a perfect score.

Gross, no wonder Akili Smith didn't make it.
Yea but Kordell did and he did all right.
Those who say "time will tell", are the wise ones.
That's coming from someone who argued against Barkley in favor of a QB a month or 2 ago.
But I have an open mind and don't see him as just a RB.
...of swinging (and missing) with QB at #2.
He played it very conservatively and safe with Saquon.

Now thats a questionable use of resources. Thought for sure Lamar Jackson.
Yes and the teams that drafted them were desperate for a QB. They didnt have an Eli
