B. They need DB and S.
C. We don't know what Bettchers scheme is for the secondary but I'M sure he's just trying to find the guys that best for it, and these signings may best do that.
I did just read he "gobbled up tackles on special teams" his first two years at Baylor. Good instinct in closing running lanes. Best case scenario he's a decent special teamer for us?
Yes, the Giants need bodies for camp
Yes, some of these guys will end up on the final 53
Yes, one or more will be play significant time during the season
Yes, the defensive backfield is lacking talent
Seems C.J. Goodwin has a better shot at seeing playing time Â
But I have seen players time and time again find success with other teams and have long careers. Not every player can be an all pro. At least they are bringing in competition and players with experience.
That’s what I’m saying. At least they are doing something. Never know who might make that one play that could change a season. Plus the bottom of the roster needs help.

but to stockpile bodies and see who emerges at camp. There wasn't much available in the UFA market, and DG is a GM who tends to undervalue the secondary in terms of investment.

As opposed to JR, who took the opposite approach.
There wasn't much CB talent available after midway through the second round, and I'm glad DG didn't reach for any.
So...they're thin in the defensive backfield. For now, on May 3. Well, we'll see what they look like in three months.

See, I was gonna go there but I didn't want T-Bone jumping all over me, haha.
I'm sure three months from now things will be better.. Â
situation will be better.
As of right now - the Giants have one legit starting NFL corner and one legit starting safety.
They just continue to collect hot garbage off the trash heap and things will get better (I guess one can hope).
I get the philosophy - I get what they are trying to do.
A squirrel finds a nut every now and then. With the salary cap - you have to get lucky with a couple of guys like the ones they are bringing in.
I"ve just got a problem with the plan as a whole...AND
I'm not complaining - I'm just giving my opinion (pretty sure that's what these sites are for).
That defense is going to be a mess this year unless they can miraculously rush the passer significantly better and/or the new DC can work some magic.
Possible - sure
Probable - not really
Just my opinion.
DG is doing what he always does. How do you think he discovered Andrew Norwell? Jeez. Some of these signings will be camp fodder, some will make the final 53. I appreciate a GM that is actually working to unearth talent fits 24/7. If the Pats signed this guy everybody would be calling it genius! Lol.

I like what DG has done, not overpaying or reaching for DB’s, etc, but I am concerned about our CB depth. I wish we had resigned Cockrell, his price tag was really not that high. My guess is they see how these guys they have brought in look in camp and probably bring in a veteran or two after June 1st cuts.

LOL! I've tried to pick my spots BR! Most days I just shake my head at the constant Reese attacks (although I'm not sure what Klaatu said was an attack)... like a certain site administrator who just HAD to mention how picking up a CB from the waiver wire in May pointed to 'just how bad the talent on this roster really is' (I swear he just copy and pastes that on every thread lol) on another thread today. At this point I'm just trying to let everyone get it out their system... which hopefully will be by 2020.

No, not an attack, per se. In fact, up until the last couple of years, most would have considered me a "Reese apologist."
However, I do like what seems to be a change in team-building philosophy from JR to DG, at least, so far, as the draft is concerned.
I like DG using his resources to improve the running game. I like the way he's improving the front seven. If he has to sacrifice the secondary, at least in the short-term, so be it.

Yeah I didn't think your post was meant as an attack.
And I'm with you... I really like this draft and at this point in time it appears to be an awesome draft that I hope he continues to have as we go along here. Reese had a few strong drafts here and there as well (particularly his first, just like DG's)... but, and this is just going off this first draft of his as Giants GM... there seemed to be more of a 'plan' with regards to the draft than Reese's past several (notice I didn't say 'few') drafts.
team, on paper, was more talented than the 2016 team that went 11-5 - is anyone seriously questioning that?
The combination of loosing one of the best players in the league (drafted 12th overall BTW) and all the other injuries, combined with poor coaching lead to 3-13. The three games OBJ played (less than 100%), them team had leads with less than 3 minutes to go.
This years team, on paper, starts out better than 2016. Health and decent coaching should lead to at least a WC berth. Unfortunately, we can't guarantee either.
As long as we have legitimate answers for what we have addressed and the arrow is pointing upwards, we are on the right course. This was never going to be a one year turnaround.
C. We don't know what Bettchers scheme is for the secondary but I'M sure he's just trying to find the guys that best for it, and these signings may best do that.
RELAX.
Ha!

Are we at the 90 player limit yet?

Though I am a firm believer that DB's in this era of the NFL aren't particularly more valuable then others outside of the top 10-20 in the league.
But still. Meet the new boss, same as the old boss.

to make roster room for all these rejects?
I guess the Seal wore thin in the locker room.
I see no evidence that anyone sees any evidence. It;s either misdirected snark or complete ignorance. Typical South of the Border activity.
Chicago Marty. Maybe he can catch on with the Bears?
