Landon Collins & Brandon Jacobs on WFAN

blueberry : 5/4/2018 10:23 am
Earlier with Boomer & Gio -did anyone listen? I caught just some of it-
Collins says arm is coming along - they had to add another screw - hopes to be ready in 4-6 weeks -also gave a glowing opinion of D Webb - said going against him in practice the kid put the ball where he, Jackrabbit, and DRC couldn't touch it - said no reason why the kid can't be the future

There was a lot of info - BJ spoke of Coughlin - also of the past fired coach -hopefully someone can fill in more

There was an article written during the season about the personal problems in the Apple family. I believe a step brother or close cousin gave the star ledger quotes. Apple's mom broke up with her 2nd husband, who was very close to Eli and it really hurt the family relationship
Flowers
Thegratefulhead : 5/4/2018 11:44 am : link
Of course he his mad...duh. Do you know one single human being that would not be mad if their employer publicly hired someone else for their position, gave them the raise they were dreaming of, demoted them and told them they had to compete for their new position. I am not defending Flowers, but for FFS let him be mad. Give him some time to come grips with it, and see what he does in camp. Still relatively young.
Here's a different prespective on the Flowers

holdout. An I'm not trying to say he's the future LT of the team but

Apply the same scenario to yourself...

I'm sure anyone and everyone on this board would be pissed and feel cheated if the company you worked for replaced you with someone new and you had to find out from that person.

NO you wouldn't stop going to work, but you would prob not attend any of the "VOLUNTARY" work events such as team builders and fundraisers. I know I wouldn't, and I def would start speaking to other companies or get council

This is similar to what is happening with Flowers.

So If this is true, it makes sense for Flowers to make a business decision.

What he views as a weak link off the team and out of the locker room. He may have resentment towards him for corrupting the culture of the team last year. If that’s the case then I get why he isn’t backing off.
I would argue that Flowers' profession is not the same as mine
Bill L : 5/4/2018 12:01 pm : link
In his profession, competition is inherent in the job and the employer is constantly bringing in someone to improve the spot. Free agents, the draft, currently players on the roster move up and down or out on a continual basis and the employee should be full aware of that and realize what being a professional entails.

Flowers didn't have that opportunity because Beatty got hurt, but what we he expect if he had actually beaten Beatty out on the field? That Beatty would have an understandable temper tantrum? No. He would have said that it's part of the business. What would have happened if, instead of signing Solder, they had drafted a top LT with the idea of that person starting? Should Flowers have also been expected to pout?

Should we be understanding if Gallman ran away from home? Or if Kerry Wynn or Davis Webb had the sniffles?

For those who don't have time to listen. Agree Collins is a bit too chatty. Jacobs is hilarious.

Collins - Shurmur a player’s coach, and first coach to eatlunch with him and the players, but also said he could be stern.
Collins - Giant’s culture is heading in the right direction, but too early to tell.
Jacobs- loves Coughlin. Said Coughlin didn’t have any favorites except for possibly Bradshaw. Jacobs said Coughlin would be really hard on critiquing Snee, but otherwise they didn’t communicate much.
Collins- likes Saquon’s attitude seems very humble, down to earth, and ready to work.
Jacobs - loves Gettleman. He is glad the Carolina players criticized Gettleman publicly to get him out of Carolina and back with the Giants where he belongs. Says Gettleman is down to earth.
Collins- says a lot of miscommunication between “upstairs” (assume he means the coaches) and the secondary last year. Lots of injuries to the secondary. DRC was playing through a back injury and a knee injury. Eli Apple stuff is behind them.
Jacobs- give Webb a shot, didn’t need a take a quarterback high in the draft.
Collins - “Webb is the future”. Very complimentary. Webb deserves the chance.
Collins – “Eli is our guy”.
Jacobs- “I knew McAdoo had no clue what was going on”… in reference to last year. Says McAdoo asked Jacobs if he had any advice during last season- Jacobs replied “I don’t know, I coach kids (children)”...
Jacobs- “We kind of always stuck together and our coach never threw us under the bus.”
Jacobs- Coughlin was totally in control.
Collins- McAdoo didn’t loose control of the locker room, but lost the respect from the players. (trying not to throw McAdoo under the bus)
Jacobs – Doesn’t think Giants give Beckham contract before the season starts. Doesn’t work that way, but will have to give him a contract after the season. Understands why Beckham wants a new contract.
Jacobs- Predicts Giants go 12 and 4. Beckham has a big year.
Collins- Supportive of Odell. Says he deserves new contract. Guys who criticism him don’t really know him.
Collins- Betcher is awesome. Plenty of guys about to be making plays. Not a lot of gray areas in the defense.
Jacobs –Gives a positive spin on Flowers not being at OTA’s. Says a lot of guys who stay away from OTA feel like they are working with their own trainers focused on just them. Flower should be there though to learn the new scheme.
Jacobs- in reference to Flowers and criticism– “you don’t want criticism go to Cleveland- this is New York, that you will get (criticism)”
Collins- Texted Flowers to come to OTAs when he didn’t show up. Flowers did not respond back. He is unhappy (heard from his cousin) that they picked up Nate Solider.
Jacobs – in reference to Flowers – “Every year they are going to try to find someone to replace you”. When Tiki left they brought in a lot of guys (to compete with him) only one that worked was Ahmad. You have to up your game. Older you get, you have to keep working.
Jacobs- not a huge fan of Matt Ryan’s new contract. It’s a lot of money (need money to spend on other positions). A lot of Atlanta fans not happy about it.
Jacobs- Passionate about coaching little kids to play football. Most important is to teach safety.
Collins – doesn’t understand new rules on tackling. Doesn’t want to go low on receivers and risk injuring their knees or ankles.
Jacobs – NFL doesn’t protect running backs. Only guy not being protected.

There's no law against having your feelings hurt, but why would he have a right to? He wasn't performing at a level where he could say with a straight face that he deserved to hold his job.
Also disagree with Jacobs
Ten Ton Hammer : 5/4/2018 12:27 pm : link
Runningbacks aren't the only unprotected class. Linemen have had a legitimate gripe for years about low blocks still being legal and the league doesn't do anything about it.

How is not showing up to work out with your teammates and meet your new Head Coach and Position Coach in his best interest? Don't you think NFL GMs and Coaches talk to each other? If he thinks blowing off the OTA is going to endear him to potential suitors once he hits the open market, he should think again.

He's sucked at his job for three years. I gave him a pass for year one because clearly he was thrust into a role for which he was not prepared, but for the two years after that? Sorry, not sorry that the new regime felt that he had to be replaced.

Tell me why Ereck Flowers deserved to keep his starting LT job? You can't. Tell me why the Giants should have picked up his 5th year option. You can't do that, either. And tell me why he isn't acting like a petulant brat with a ridiculously inflated sense of entitlement, because that's exactly how he's acting.

Has to be the worst LT to ever play in the NFL I mean he started like 40+ games and they had to replace his QB like what 50 times, oh no that’s not right never. Now let’s not forget he had a Carl Lewis type speed merchant playing QB so every tiny mistake is a tragic error. We just paid a LT the record amount to do his job why because this guy is going to never allow a sack again from his former position.

I’m so sick of hearing Eli Apple and Ereck Flowers were the reason why this team sucked from start to finish when it was a complete team effort. Let’s see what happens with the new and improved line or somewhat improved offensive line I don’t even know what to call them at this point.

that “Flowers has to work harder if he’s ever going to reach the potential the Giants saw in him when they drafted him”. That’s also very telling. I think Collins will be more of a leader this year too. With that said, Collins didn’t say anything wrong IMO. He’s very honest and I think that’s refreshing actually.

Lost his specific job, but transferred to another location, has to compete , for the first time, for the prime job there.
It's not a thrilling experience.
That said, if he hasn't been paying attention to general consensus comments from those outside the organization, then he needs a real wake up call.
Webb
Archer : 5/4/2018 1:41 pm : link
The most important item that I took from the interview was the high regard that Collins has for Webb
He said that Webb can make every throw, into small windows where only the receiver can catch the ball
Colin’s said he would know as he played against Webb in practice

He also offered that Webb is studious and has the temperament to be the man

Flowers is delusional and entitled
AcesUp : 5/4/2018 4:02 pm : link
Did he really think he was in line for Top LT money? He's had 3 years to lock down that position, given every opportunity to succeed and hasn't done so. He was clearly on the Fluker path of 4 years followed by a low annual 1 yr prove it deal. If anything, the move to RT may be a blessing for him, he needed a change because the status quo wasn't doing him any favors.

One common denominator between Apple and Flowers is the involvement of the parents in their professional affairs. I'm not talking about guiding them but actually being the one calling the shots as their manager or agent. Obviously, it's a generalization but that has to be where the deluded sense of entitlement comes from. If you're in this fantasy land bubble of life as a professional athlete, you need an objective outside perspective in your camp that can ground your ego a little.
One note here is
UConn4523 : 5/4/2018 4:07 pm : link
Rosenbaus has been hired. If he though it would hurt him this badly would he suggest or demand that he show up?

I simply think it’s more than “show up or you are a shitty teammate” like many like to subscribe to. As usual, fans blow most things out of proportion.

Rory, his best interest is to get to every single NYG activity to improve and earn his next role on the team and paycheck.

No NFL team will look at Flowers and say his decision to skip workouts under a new coaching staff and playbook is helping his future potential and his value as a player.

Collins on Webb
kelsto811 : 5/5/2018 2:49 am : link
Thought maybe it got a little lost with the talk about Flowers but this was during his interview yesterday on the Fan

"He is the future," Collins said when asked about his thoughts on Webb after watching him in practice. "When I play against him he puts some balls over my head, over Jackrabbit's (Janoris Jenkins) head in perfect spots where either the receiver is catching the ball or no one is catching the ball."

Boomer asked about how Webb is on the sidelines, in practice, and in games.

"Comfortable," Collins said using a word to describe Webb. "He's always next to Eli, earpiece in his ears, he's the future."

Would have loved to see Webb get a chance at some point last year.
