My NYG Manifesto

Dnew15 : 5/4/2018 11:48 am
I have a problem.
I am a whiny, bitchy, complaining NYG fan.

1.) I have bitched and moaned about DG being another pawn in ownership's overly conservative approach to roster build. I complained about how it will be just "business as usual" and that we just hired another Reese and/or Accorsi when a whole new philosophy from the top - down was needed to compete in the new-look NFL.

2.) I moaned about the Pat Shurmer hire. Another old, white, boring head coach that will fail to connect to the new-age player needed to win in a player-centric age of football.

3.) I have whined repeatedly about how Eli is done. About how they haven't addressed the problem of an aging QB who no longer has the magic and is a shell of his former self, with no real answer to the foregone conclusion that a replacement will be needed ASAP.

4.) I complained about the fact that Giants didn't trade down because their roster is full of aging NFL JAGS such as Kerry Wynn, Robert Thomas, William Gay, Brett Jones, BW Webb, Jerry Jones, Michael Thomas, John Greco and seem determined to collect every other below average OL or DB cut by another team.

5.) I grumble about the seemingly petulant key players littering the roster. The malcontent Erik Flowers, the immature Odell Beckam, the confounding Eli Apple, the confusing and reluctant leader Snacks Harrison. I opine about the NYG gearing up to pay these men to be the mainstays of the roster and building blocks of the future (at least in OBJ's case)and their inability to "fix" the culture of the team.

6.) I pretend to know that trading down was the only answer to fix the many holes in the roster and insist that a complete teardown and rebuild was in order as the only way to provide hope for the future.

I am frustrated by many years of mediocrity.
I am tired of getting beaten by the Eagles every damn time we play them. ( I live too close to Philly)
I am tired of meaningless games in November (in recent memory aside from 2016).
The NYG had two amazing runs in the postseason in the near past that I would never take for granted as a fan but, but it's been a long time since we dominated the opposition.

And in reflecting on these things - I have realized something.

I am a bad fan.
I have become the football fan equivalent of the old man yelling at the young kids to get off his lawn.
I am a whiny, complaining, bitch.
Being a fan is about rooting, cheering, supporting, loving the NYG.
I am done being a Polly Pissy Pants.

From here on - I am no longer griping. I am letting it all go.
From now on - I will get behind NYG and for one main reason. Saquon Barkley.
He seems like a superior talent, a great dude, and the kind of player that can usher in a new generation of good NYG football.
I will no longer scatter my negative comments all over the BBI threads complaining about everything the organization has done.
Thank you BBI for the attitude adjustment.
I feel better already.
Go Giants!

Rip away.

But there's nothing wrong with being critical of the team you root for. You have a vested interest in whether they win or lose, so it's a right as a fan to be GM, coach and player. Sometimes it's okay to be a malcontent.

....and this is what they call perspective. When I was younger, late teens/early twenties, I was one of those fans who would have a bad day if my team was performing poorly.

Then I met someone, got married, had kids, and realize there are much more important things than if we make the playoffs or not. I frankly didn't watch every game this season because it was not entertaining for me. I still kept up with the team but I didn't waste 3+ hours of my weekend for a team that looked like garbage.

In the end it’s a game and it’s entertainment. I’m excited to see this new chapter of Giants football, with tempered expectations. Like it or not, these are our guys and I want to give them a chance.

Also, Saquon Barkley is everything you want in a player: team first guy, unbelievably talented, hard working, humble... he’s a great player to be able to root for this year.

The previous 7+ drafts and the results made a lot of us cranky vs. Ownership, GM, coach, and a few other things.
There's a new Sheriff in town.
Be optimistic until the owners, GM, Coach, players, draft regularly let you down.

One thing I like about this off season is I genuinely want to root for the new leadership as well as the new draft picks. Through last season, this was a difficult team to like, and it wasn't all about the W-L record.

The draft has also yielded what seem to be a set of hardworking, unentitled, likable guys to refresh the team. Hopefully their attitude infects the rest of this team.

"We could have had Darnold and Guice" or "Chubb and Guice"... "The gap between Barkley and Guice is smaller than you think" etc.

Go back and listen to what happened with Guice interviewing with teams and think about his character concerns compared to the kind of guy Barkley apparently is. Not only is Barkley more talented, he's going to be a better damn teammate, captain, and face of the franchise, period.

We got Barkley and Hernandez 1-2. WOW.

Nothing wrong per se, just typical of the stubborn. If with average to good QB play, SB helps us strongly contend, than their conviction that none of the top QBs were worth it, at least not enough franchise pedigree to match their evaluation of SB, was the correct call. Yet this will never be enough to change the minds of the QB only crowd, despite the Giants’ clear signal that in THEIR OPINION, none of them were worth the gamble

It's good therapy to say it out loud. I'm hoping more come to your line of thinking. To paraphrase, 99% of us, don't get paid for our opinions. "WE are New York Giants Fans first".

I made it through drafting Tucker Frederickson over Gale Sayers. and Rocky Thompson in Rd 1, and so on.

I can accept drafting Saquon.
Differing views are fine. I didn’t want Manning and said

Way to submit to the mob mentality! How dare any of us question a team that- since the second half of 2012- has been one of the worst in the NFL. This organization and its questionable decisions are definitely above reproach and explanation! Submit to the BBI will that all is well and 3-13 was just a sham (as was 7-9, 6-10, and 6-10).

If it fails, then you have every right to rip the team and DG. Let's just at least give it a chance to play out though, before claiming that this will be a disaster.
Barkley and Hernandez fit both situations. They're nfl rookies

Well, Wynn, Brett Jones and Robert Thomas certainly don't fit the

nto really sure what you’re questioning. It’s a different team, there’s no on field decision-making or play to armchair QB, the management and coaching staff is different so the logic of questioning because of past failures doesn’t apply, draft decision-making they have the advantage due to knowledge and experience. That’s all that’s really left to question but the uphill disadvantage you face is ginormous.
