Giants preparing another O Canada tryout next week

YANKEE28 : 5/4/2018 11:26 pm
Snickers pointed out earlier in his thread that the top overall pick in the CFL football draft, WR Mark Chapman will participate in the rookie camp next week.

Last year he played at Central Michigan. Ran a 4.63 at his Pro Day. He is 5' 11 1/2" and 183 pounds.

Pat Traina tweeted that the top CFL O lineman, Mark Korte will also participate. He is 6' 2" and 293 pounds. Played for Alberta last year.

And Bennett Jackson from Ottawa, considered the best Defensive Back will also participate. He ran a 4.48 forty at his Pro Day.

Its been a nice gesture to have these annual Canadian tryouts, but pretty slim chances of anyone sticking long term (and this is not how the Giants got Brett Jones)

This is just 3, but if its like prior Giants rookie camps, there will be more.

I think there are a few others too.

It is interesting... there definitely is some sort of concerted effort to scout the Canadian prospects.
wait, you're telling me a 5'11" receiver who ran in the 4.6s

Folks don't remember, but Jerry Rice ran a 4.6.

Larry Fitzgerald ran a 4.63 at his combine.

Antonio Brown is 5'10"

Cris Carter ran a 4.63. Anquan Boldin ran a 4.71.

I highly doubt the WR will produce in the NFL, but I wouldn't write anyone off based on height and 40 alone.

Apparently plays a lot of different positions.

Not for nothing as I don't want to be negative. I hope he pans out but

when it comes to WR Mark Chapman, it's not just the 40 time or just the height. It's the combination that would be concerning. Maybe to backup Sterling in the slot? I hope he's very elusive.

Recap: Mark Chapman, ran a 4.63 and he's 5'11 1/2"

Jerry Rice ran a 4.6 but he's 6'2"
Larry Fitzgerald ran a 4.63 but he's 6'3"
Cris Carter ran a 4.63 but he's 6'3"
Anquan Boldin ran a 4.71 but he's 6'1"
Antonio Brown is only 5'10" but he ran a 4.47

Still, I wish him luck in defeating the odds.
Brown ran a 4.56 at the combine
Big Rick in FL : 5/5/2018 7:25 am : link
He also had a 33 inch vertical, 8'9 broad jump, 4.18 short shuttle and 6.98 3 cone

Chapman ran a 4.64. He had a 36 1/2 inch vertical, 10'8 broad jump, 4.12 short shuttle and 7.01 3 cone.

So they had very very similar combines. Obviously it's unlikely he turns into even half of what Brown is, but simply looking at a 40 to judge a player is wrong.

Tons of guys can run a 4.3 - but can't do it in pads or catch a ball either

High character and plays multiple positions "What's not to like?" - Bettcher and Gettleman :)
You guys need to check your pre-conceived notions at the door

just because a guy played in Canada doesn't mean he is not worthy of participating in the great NFL. With the direction the NFL game is moving, it is getting closer to Canadian football. These receivers and db's who played the Canadian game may be an untapped resource. Good for the front office in recognizing the trends.

With the way the game is moving, they had better start scouting arena football.
