Sneaky good unit this year, could it be LineBackers?

Carter/Martin-Goodson/Munson-Ogletree-Vernon

Ogletree when he was in a system that better utilized his skill set the year prior to last one with the Rams was a pro bowl level talent at ILB. Vernon played some OLB in Miami and at his size/speed seems perfect for that type role and should be able to give us a true pass rush presence there. Goodson remaining healthy is a big one. This kid can play. Though I think Munson is not a terrible player and could hold the fort down if need be himself. Then Zo Carters freak size/athleticism was close to Tremaine Edmunds level. Giants said he had more QB pressures/hits than ANYONE in the draft including Chubb (if true that is quite impressive). Martin is a solid rotational guy who's arrow is pointing up.

This LB group especially if Zo Carter contributes early like the Giants think he can could be sneaky good.
Think average

and you shouldn't be disappointed...
My assessment from a few days ago:

Let's Talk Linebackers.
I’m not sure Ogletree is a better player than Keenan Robinson.

Robinson’s issue has always been staying on the field. Goodson and Ogletree both need to keep healthy, because there is literally nothing behind them.

I was a fan of Robinson but he always had that problem of being in the right place.. but falling short of making the big play. Two career INT's, 1.5 career sacks, no FF's, while Ogletree has six INT's , 5.5 sacks, and 12 (!) FF's in his short career. I mean they're similar in the sense both are very athletic, sideline guys who excel in coverage, but Alec has much more credentials for being a playmaker where K-Rob hasn't.

Protect him and Goodson and I expect some plays made this year.

Good analysis. I think Ogletree could get back to pro-bowl level under Bettcher.
While better than last season,

the bar was set so low, how can it not be an improvement.....the only question is how much?
Whereas...... I had been looking to add a few
idiotsavant : 5/5/2018 3:21 pm : link
Slobber knocker NTs (who might also attack one gap) I am exited that they added 1 additional tough one gapper (a Tomlinson type clone in Hill?) and a nifty smaller (288?) "3/4 DE type" (same weight as Leonard Marshal who played in 85 when o lines where comparatively tiny and yet also similar to current dler Mauro)...

..I am still interested to see this DL play.

Don't forget they have LBs also.

I will day this 'unit to watch is.. '

Front 5.

Justin Smith was 285 lbs. Will McIntosh be like Smith? Please tell me McIntosh will be like Smith.
I think Vernon is an underrated player here

Many want to bring up his salary. Forget his frickin salary. The team is in fine financial shape and will he even better off next year and beyond. Vernon can play the run as well as anyone and is good enough at rushing the passer and maybe even better than that.

If we didn’t have Vernon I’d be nervous about the linebackers because the rest are either young and unproven or not known for Edge rushing.

It’s an intriguing unit. Probably a year away from where we need the D to be but it won’t be below average in 2018 and should be above. The stars need to shine... guys like Vernon, Collins, jackrabbit, snacks and Ogletree need to play most of the year. Then the younger kids like apple, thomlinson, Goodson and one of the rookies needs to emerge. Some ifs but reasonable to expect...
