Martin, Vernon, Ogletree and who?
You need 2 inside LBs, and Carter isn't one of them. He is a rookie and not ready to start. Besides, he's an Edge guy.
Adding Goodson or anyone else will drop the speed of the LB group.

Goodson ran a 4.69 40 at the 2016 combine - the fastest of all the inside linebackers that ran the 40 in that year.
My biggest concern with speed is at the back end of the defense.....
Positionals actually apply in this D anymore the way you guys expect them to.
If you want Carter doing zone PD, also covering blanketing TEs which implies over near the edge, also popularly blitzing from wide, you can move him around.
What's fairly evident is that Martin may start at 'olb' and yet he's not covering any TEs or dropping into any zones...
...as he attacks through and past the line there is no reason it need be only from the end position. It's just as likely, very likely, to be from an inside gap - also.
So, positional designations: don't let them force your roster:
Carter/Martin/Ogletree/Vernon
With Carter either blitzing but from very wide, Blanketing or zone PD the TE more often than blitzing Or the spy / chase roll. But not man on an O tackle and rarely inside blitz. Martin attacking any spot of the line edge to edge...including where Carter was almost always.
get this system instilled quickly it's essential that we come out of the gates strong . I wouldn't mind if they make another move to get another Center and a CB before the trade deadline depending on how well we are playing .
I can see a ten win season and possibly 11 .
A big season out of Goodson will really help I think about that 18 tackle game . We finally have some athleticism with the LB's .Good luck running on us . Avery Moss is a guy that could blossom this season as well .

Goodson was a OLB at Clemson if I recall correctly so that is misleading... he definitely did not run the fastest 40 for an OLB.
WR - Fast
Beckham is the only true burner but Shephard is very athletic for the slot, Latimer has track speed to separate but doesn't show it enough on the field, Lewis is average. Overall a pretty fast unit by NFL standards.
RB - Fast
Presuming Barkley becomes a true workhorse, he's clearly one of the fastest most athletic RBs in the league. Gallman, Perkins, and Stewart are probably sub average athletes at this point. Barkley alone makes this one of the more athletic RB groups in the NFL
TE - Fast
Engram is blazing fast at TE, Ellison is slow but primarily an inline blocker, Adams is very fast in a straight line but not particularly quick. Engram may be the fastest/quickest tight end in the league.
OL - Slow
Pugh and Richburg were the only + athletes on the line last year but Giants going with more power in Hernandez and Jones. The oline was average/below average athletically and remains the least athletic in the NFC East.
QB - Molasses
DL - Above Average
Snacks plays fast at nose. Tomlinson plays fast for a tackle but slow for an end. Mauro and Martin are average.
LB - Average
Vernon is quick off the line with grown man strength, but runs slow compared to elite edge guys. Carter looked very fast in a straight line but not particularly quick twitch in college. Ogletree and Goodson are not pure thumpers but not sideline to sideline track stars either. No athletic lbs coming off the bench now that Keenan Robinson is gone.
Safety - Below Average
Collins is an elite downhill in the box safety but nobody will mistake him for a world class cover guy with track speed. Thompson would be one of the slowest starting free safeties in the league. Adams is below average.
Cornerback - Average
Jenkins is quick and fast enough to cover anybody in the league. Apple has good straight line speed but questionable quickness, recovery skills. The rest of the group is slow now that DRC is gone.
Defensively Carter and OV as our edge guys thats pretty good. Janoris and Apple as the boundary CBs , thats pretty good. LC at SS thats pretty good.
2x rush lbs (Martin and Vernon)
+
2x cover or chase the RB to edge lbs (Carter and Ogletree)
Carter can blanket or zone PD a TE as needed, for example, as it doesn't seem like Martin or Goodsons thing?
And 'rush lb' meaning from inside gaps, as needed, not just from the edge.
So speed is Carter, Ogletree, Collins, DT or Adams as speed over middle.

Giants are looking to Carter for pass rush. I am assuming he will be playing mostly OLB in this system.

That OL (new members) have to gel quickly for that kind of improvement. But, I hope you are right.

Easy ...just what a lot of us thought last year
that said I'm excited to see Eli get a few seconds more with new oline

Landon Collins is fast coming straight ahead forward.
Not so much going back in pass coverage.
Both safeties are liabilities when the opposing O spreads out 4 or 5 receivers and forces our safeties into man coverage.
Add to that our third and fourth cb's whomever they are have unknown speed and coverage qualities
So if the opposing O runs the ball sixty times we should be good.
But if they pass the ball two thirds of the offensive plays like most NFL teams do then our back seven speed and coverage will be in question

Speed at skill positions is excellent, assuming Odell makes a full recovery
