We still dont know 'mystery' team that gave reasonable offer

Big_Blue_in_the_Bronx : 5/6/2018 8:51 am
Gettleman said there was one team that offered a whole lot more than a hot dog, pretzels and cracker jacks. In fact he admitted the offer was reasonable. Who could it have been and possibly what was the bounty? Interesting to speculate on what we may have passed up.
Ic it wasnt Denver then it was probably Cleveland

The wildcard team could have been Tampa

They supposedly wanted Barkley.
They were in love with Barkley
Rflairr : 5/6/2018 9:34 am : link
So there probably wasn’t an offer they would have taken.

Yes sir. Likely very true.
I think when Cleveland
section125 : 5/6/2018 10:27 am : link
took Mayfield, Gettleman was not going to chance losing Barkley to Cleveland at #4 with a trade.

Whichever team wanted a deal was probably looking for Darnold ahead of the Jets.

So DG was likely praying for Barkley to drop, got what he wanted and was not going to get cute and outsmart himself. Just because the deal was reasonable doesn't mean it even tempted the Giants.
My guess
Eman11 : 5/6/2018 10:29 am : link
Would be Buffalo. Given their GM's ties to DG I'm thinking he wouldn't insult him with a hot dog and pretzel offer. Probably did make a fair and reasonable offer but DG wouldn't budge off of Barkley.
If I am not mistaken,
robbieballs2003 : 5/6/2018 10:31 am : link
You guys are looking at this wrong. The offer didn't come in after the Mayfield pick. It was most likely discussed well in advance of the draft. Gettleman said once Cleveland seleced Mayfield he told everybody don't waste your time answering the phones because they were taking Barkley. That is why Cleveland makes the most sense to me. They wanted to secure Barkley and had the draft capital to do so.
Ummm who cares
BigBlueDownTheShore : 5/6/2018 10:35 am : link
It could just a bunch of balony.
Good non-move by DG
Coach Red Beaulieu : 5/6/2018 10:39 am : link
They needed to throw in Tabasco slim Jims and cool ranch doritos.
For me
Tim in VA : 5/6/2018 10:56 am : link
It was always Barkley, or trade down if Barkley wasn't on the board. Taking anyone else at 2 seemed like a reach, but passing on Barkley for a trade down would be an idiotic mistake. Easily the best player in the draft IMO
As a person once said, "What does it matter"!

It was my understanding that it was Cleveland offering both 2nds
George from PA : 5/6/2018 11:41 am : link
To move up to get Barkley from 4
Who cares?
djstat : 5/6/2018 12:20 pm : link
It won’t leak out and why does it matter? They didn’t take it. I personally do not believe there was an offer as DG said they would have submitted the card immediately if they were not required to wait until the 5 minute mark.
Just good old curiosity. What’s the issue in hearing

what it was...you all too busy surfing on BBI to allow the info, if provided someway, to slow down your days?

water under the bridge...

some people just want something more to complain about ..
draft is over you want to be judgmental that you really can't do until 3 years or more especially with the QB's .
Silly comment

Gettleman was insulted that

but thought we knew it was likely the Pats

Obviously there's a lot of PR especially with an agent but didn't hear about this being untrue or unlikely

Pats for Mayfield - ( New Window )
Tho of course this article does say it wasn't likely
ChaChing : 5/6/2018 3:43 pm : link
but fwiw read it on BBI & several other places
Think Shurmur, DG and everyone else
TMS : 5/6/2018 5:03 pm : link
really wanted Barkley because they had a plan that included ELI and Webb with him and a good draft. Did not want to wait 2/3 years to get back into competition. If he was gone then they trade down for more picks. Maybe get Nelson in that deal.
Why
HoodieGelo : 5/6/2018 5:20 pm : link
does it matter? There's literally nothing to gain from knowing. All that would happen is DG getting bashed if it was a decent offer.
There's nothing to lose either. Why should DG get bashed
Jimmy Googs : 5/6/2018 5:30 pm : link
if he picked the best player in the entire draft and the guy he always wanted...

The Pats wanted Mayfield and Mayfield was already gone so it wasn't the Pats.

that this information is only useful for the purposes of second guessing and criticizing the front office? I mean who the fuck cares what the offer was. It wasn't accepted and in what world would you describe a bountiful offering as reasonable? Reasonable is like, "I'm listening, what else have you got? Oh, nothing. Think we will stick with the best player in the draft."

Was my thought. What ever the offer was, it wasn't good enough.
Just a ?
Philu916 : 5/7/2018 1:42 am : link
Had it been both 2nds and the 4, would it have been worth it? Is Barkley + Hernandez better then
Chubb(since DG clearly didn’t like any of the QBs), Chubb,Hernandez and my guess would be another OL?
What made the offer worse, whatever it was...
manh george : 5/7/2018 2:12 am : link
is the strong likelihood that the Giants did very well on picks 2-4, and possibly on Laudetta as well. Getting a high-end OL, 2 quality front 7 prospects and then maybe a qb not significantly worse than many of those below the #3 pick could end up as quite a haul.

And if we can get a db or two and a wr out of FA, this team could be hugely upgraded. An interesting annalysis of Giants cap moves linked.

Define reasonable
JonC : 5/7/2018 8:26 am : link
It doesn't mean it was enough to pull them off their #1 target and best player in SB ... and it wasn't.

The offer was probably from Buffalo.
I know this
Sy'56 : 5/7/2018 8:37 am : link
DEN/Elway had a very high level of infatuation for Mayfield. Maybe there was talk prior to draft about a trade up if CLE passed on him.

I don't think it was BUF, because BUF did not want Darnold
LOL...

Seeing that you said it was gross negligence to pick Barkley, I think that statement is less than genuine.

I love the posters with the "Why should X get bashed" stance, when the vast majority of their posts do exactly that.
Let it go
