Giancarlo getting a rest. Didi and Gary back in the lineup after a day off. And Austin back in the lineup (as DH) after a couple days off, even with another righty on the mound, prob want to get him some at-bats before the two Boston lefties this week.
Lineup
Gardner LF
Judge DH
Didi SS
Sanchez C
Hicks CF
Walker 1B
Andujar 3B
Austin DH
Torres 2B
Domingo German on the bump, with his first MLB start.
Lets get this sweep and 9 out of 10 from the AL cream of the crop (outside of AL East)!
We all know Giancarlo has been fighting it most of the year. So maybe they think the extra day off is good for him, who knows.
I do know they probably wanted to get Austin in the line-up (after 3 games off)...since he'll def be playing TU and WE vs. Pomeranz and Price. And they prob wanted to keep Walker in the line-up too, since he is starting to show some life for the first time all season.
Yeah its a weird routine - 162 game season, this is the 18th day in a row with a game - selectively giving guys days off is an important part of keeping them fresh for the second half
He really gets incredible movement on his pitches
There's no issue with giving guys days off. The point I made is giving guys a day off with a scheduled off day the following day. Wouldn't giving Stanton a day off in the middle of the 18 game stretch be more beneficial?
I never imagined his defense would be this great at 2B but it clearly is
He's not stretched out and already over 83 pitches
Little did I know he was prophesying. LOL. Incredible game.

A multi pitcher NH is fun too.
need to wake up the bats
need to wake up the bats
First earned run allowed in his last eight appearances. His first inning was fantastic. He just isn't a multiple inning pitcher anymore
Yeah, seemed like they were pushing their luck there.

but sending Dellin out for a second inning looks very questionable.
Yeah, seemed like they were pushing their luck there.
Moron move of the day by Boone. Sending Betances back out and then bringing Holder with tomorrow off.
They have a short bullpen today and tried to get him to go two innings.
I'm getting the sense that Holder is turning out to be another Bryan Mitchell. A flash here, a flash there, total mediocrity in between.
Didi needs to get hot again
fuck
Walker is coming around too
Can Andujar do it again?
Walker is coming around too
This +1000. Allen was gassed (surprised Francona didnt yank him after the Hicks laser), but instead of taking the bat out of Walkers hands, Boone let a hot hitter get his chance.

Great call by Boone not bunting there. That's an auto bunt with Giardi

Would especially drive me nuts when Joe would call for it with a left handed hitter. Just let them pull the ball and you may get a hit out of it!
Lost in this win is the work of German
Way to go rookie!!!
german looks solid
add a top end of rotation guy if package is okay
sheff
drury
abreu
or something similar
either way this team looking good and tghey are FUN to watch
Guy looks bound for Cooperstown like crazy
We live in perhaps the best Yankees timeline of all time. Isn't that crazy folks? This team could be the best and the start of the best run yet!!
Oh boy!! What a team! #GottaLoveThisTeam
Last 3 or 4 games he has come thru big time. Think Austin will go the SWB when Bird is ready (thought that would happen anyway since he has options left). Walker also (knock wood) plays a good 1st base and has been solid on scooping balls in the dirt.
Drury, of course, could also factor in there.
See what German can do and when Montgomery can come back. If Sheffield has 5 good starts in AAA, he can come up to audition.

We're 3-0 at Yankee Stadium this year cupcake
The Indians are 0-5 at Yankee Stadium since then.

the youth provides excitedment but come playoff time you need the vet presence and need a guy who has experience being the guy to shut down or at least slow the other team. i love our young kids...
but
1. we have a ton
2. we need a top end starter.
3. if german becomes that great but im looking for a guy at deadline if i am cash

I agree

Also, the other teams ask for the sun and the moon when negotiating with the Yanks. Houston gave up very little for Verlander and Cole, the Yanks wouldnt have gotten it done with similar packages.
After all the trades, the only redundant prospects we have left are Wade, Adams, McKinney, and maybe Frazier according to some, not including all the power relievers who may not fetch much. You are not getting MadBum for them.

Tip of the hat to Neil Walker, who is starting to produce. As I've said, I'll be surprised if he's going anywhere anytime soon. He's a solid player who gives them a lot of flexibility, and assuming that he's getting back to the hitter he usually is, that's a handy guy to have around.

Takes away a RH optiin at 1st doesnt it?
I didn't take that at all as what Boone said. He said going into the 9th they were pinch hitting Stanton in the four hole there no matter the situation, and felt good knowing Gleyber was coming up.
I believe the question was more about why use Stanton there knowing he would be walked, and was it a confidence thing with Torres and not using Stanton for him? Boone didn't really say he wanted Torres up there but was confident and comfortable with him there. He had no problem with Stanton getting the possible IBB knowing Gleyber would bat next.
They Ho 16-2 in that stretch! Just an amazing run vs some tough teams taboot.
But I have rooted for the team for many years. To me, if Cashman sees a way to improve...im for letting him trade while the aura of our farm successes adds a differential that may help us.
I trust that he wont make trades for trades sake...witness holding the line on Pittsburgh over Cole.
Three final things:
1) Knowing he does not have to trade makes Cashman truly able to deal from strength.
2) While we have prospects we want to hold on to; we also have a lot of RHP that wont be in slots 1-3.
3) The Yankees ( Hal Steinbrenner) are determined to get under the luxury tax. That also bounds Cashmans need to be disciplined.
Lost in all this is the possibility that Hal may be a much much better owner than George. Invests in infrastructure ( major and minor league coaching, tape analysis, scouting, first tier minor league instructions, facilities, analytics). Follows a long term plan and does not seem to panic or over and under react. Lately, Cashman made strong depth moves ( Drury, Walker) that helped or will help. Shows a good sense of the team
So for me, I don't think they will make a foolish trade or sell tomorrow for today. Obviously, not every trade works out but the odds do favor us if they see something that makes sense.
imo
Especially if a sane trade this year means we don't have to get stupid with next years FA crop
See what German can do and when Montgomery can come back. If Sheffield has 5 good starts in AAA, he can come up to audition.
Exactly. Why are we talking trades when Severino is pitching like last year, Tanaka has looked good his last 3 outings as has Gray and we just got 6 innings of no hit baseball with 9 K from German? So we want to empty the farm to get a 4th starter?
* When Judge flails at that down and away pitch trying to pull he looks awful, like most the game and yesterday. When he goes with the pitch, he's lethal.
* 16-2 in the tough early test 18 straight games. Very impressive
* what else can you say about Gleyber? He's got "it" like Jeter. WHatever the situation calls for, he can do it.
* Jim in Hoboken, you have forgive those who are stupid enough to think that George Steinbrenner was a good owner. THey actually think that they won due to his brilliance. The truth is the didn't win shit when he was in charge. It's no accident that the 2 WS runs in the GMS era were built while he was suspended from baseball. I will give him the credit for leaving two brilliant baseball men in charge while he was gone in Gabe Paul and Gene Michael. who he promptly drove away upon his return. I think Hal is a MUCH better owner and baseball man, and a more level hedaed, reasonable person.

I think you meant Clint Frazier

Ah, no wonder that felt weird typing...never mind.
Drury, of course, could also factor in there.
All the best, micky. Hope you feel better soon.
415 feet / 104.4 exit velo per statcast.
Which I agree is amazing - so far hes seemed a very capable hitter, but Ive been picturing him with the proverbial gap power, maybe a 10-15 HR/year guy.
But hitting a rocket line drive 415 to dead center? Wow.
And then theres his stellar defense, on display again today.
On a team mostly young but with several already established stars, Gleybers already starting to shine as one of our cornerstone guys.
Amazing.
I just hope he doesn't lose that awesome range as he fills out. He's looking like a tremendous glove at 2B right now. His arm isn't too far off Cano's and he has much more range than Robbie ever did.

We are going to get sooo spoiled by this team.

I remember a few years ago Cashman said he wanted to build an "uber team" - looks like he's well on his way. Just an incredible collection of talent here.
They drive taxis too ?
LOL Good one!!
And I believe against a strong wind blowing in. (unless it shifted}
That makes sense. I am curious about the plan for Frazier, though. He strikes me as a Dustin Pedroia type player -- someone who motivates others by his relentless effort and can-do spirit. If Gardner or Hicks gets hurt, his opportunity will arrive.
4 tickets. Section 228 row 6. $500 for the set ($1 less per ticket than I paid). Just looking to recover my cost. Extended family outing, had a few people back out over the last couple of weeks.

just saw the video of Gleyber's HR now. Amazing in many respects - not least was that I pictured him lining the HR down the left field line or something - but no, that was almost dead center field - did anyone get a measurement? Must have been 400+. Just amazing ...
And I believe against a strong wind blowing in. (unless it shifted}
I'm not 100% sure, but I got the sense from watching the hits by both Hicks and Gleyber that the wind had shifted and was blowing out. Those balls just seemed to keep carrying.
