NFT: Indians @ Yankees- Sunday Going for the Sweep Edition

BC Eagles94 : 5/6/2018 11:34 am
Giancarlo getting a rest. Didi and Gary back in the lineup after a day off. And Austin back in the lineup (as DH) after a couple days off, even with another righty on the mound, prob want to get him some at-bats before the two Boston lefties this week.

Lineup

Gardner LF
Judge DH
Didi SS
Sanchez C
Hicks CF
Walker 1B
Andujar 3B
Austin DH
Torres 2B

Domingo German on the bump, with his first MLB start.

Lets get this sweep and 9 out of 10 from the AL cream of the crop (outside of AL East)!

I don't get this new trend of resting star players

with an off day the next day.
Couple corrections...
BC Eagles94 : 5/6/2018 11:57 am : link
Judge is in RF. And Austin had three days off, not 2. My bad. Got a little trigger happy on posting.

We all know Giancarlo has been fighting it most of the year. So maybe they think the extra day off is good for him, who knows.

I do know they probably wanted to get Austin in the line-up (after 3 games off)...since he'll def be playing TU and WE vs. Pomeranz and Price. And they prob wanted to keep Walker in the line-up too, since he is starting to show some life for the first time all season.
Walker in the last three games...
BC Eagles94 : 5/6/2018 12:04 pm : link
is 3/8 with 4 walks and only 1 K. And he had some really hard hit balls that were caught during the road trip in Anaheim and Houston. So I think he is finally starting to turn a corner.

Yeah it’s a weird routine - 162 game season, this is the 18th day in a row with a game - selectively giving guys days off is an important part of keeping them fresh for the second half

He really gets incredible movement on his pitches
I really like his confidence and sense of command on the mound.
yatqb : 5/6/2018 1:30 pm : link
It's not too big for him...like he's pitching in Little League.

I think of him as Severino lite. I think he can be a good 3 guy. Like AJ Burnett or Pineda. Hopefully, he can put it together as a Yankee though.
Well that was a good inning

There's no issue with giving guys days off. The point I made is giving guys a day off with a scheduled off day the following day. Wouldn't giving Stanton a day off in the middle of the 18 game stretch be more beneficial?
So far
dune69 : 5/6/2018 1:42 pm : link
he has Indian hitters baffled. Yankees need to get their bats going.
We've seen some serious pitching lately.

bceagle05 : 5/6/2018 2:02 pm : link
to keep a no-hitter going. Fuck off, official scorer.
Clevinger's got great stuff too.

German pitching like a starter
DennyInDenville : 5/6/2018 2:17 pm : link
Torres just so damn good at Second Base

I never imagined his defense would be this great at 2B but it clearly is
Nice defense

Gleyber
I was at the last DG no hitter that lasted this long

in the early 90's
Too bad he can't keep his no hitter going
DennyInDenville : 5/6/2018 2:34 pm : link
Gotta pull him out of the game

He's not stretched out and already over 83 pitches

My cuz who wasn't a big baseball fan
Big_Blue_in_the_Bronx : 5/6/2018 2:36 pm : link
turned to me and said hey Goodens throwing a no hitter after the second inning. This was right after A rod tagged one to center that Gerald Williams barely tracked down. I laughed at him and said you never call a no-hitter after six outs especially when a guys stuff doesn't even look that good.

Little did I know he was prophesying. LOL. Incredible game.

A multi pitcher NH is fun too.
Dellin looks like he's back to normal!
guitarguybs12 : 5/6/2018 2:48 pm : link
Been solid for almost a month now
The Dodgers had a combined no hitter just two nights ago
Greg from LI : 5/6/2018 2:51 pm : link
Get some damned runs though!
What was written on Germans hat ?
DennyInDenville : 5/6/2018 2:52 pm : link
Is this our new stud starter folks?
man, there really hasn't been much hitting in Yankee games lately
Greg from LI : 5/6/2018 3:00 pm : link
Either by them or the opposition.
Rajai will be off to the races now.
bceagle05 : 5/6/2018 3:03 pm : link
.
Of course it's two useless hitters who they don't get out
Greg from LI : 5/6/2018 3:06 pm : link
If I were facing the Yankees I think I'd just run a AAA team out there.
Dellin getting squeezed now
Greg from LI : 5/6/2018 3:09 pm : link

Not sure who isn't available today
Kyle in NY : 5/6/2018 3:11 pm : link
but sending Dellin out for a second inning looks very questionable.
lol

need to wake up the bats

First earned run allowed in his last eight appearances. His first inning was fantastic. He just isn't a multiple inning pitcher anymore

Yeah, seemed like they were pushing their luck there.
Although I guess if the alternative
Kyle in NY : 5/6/2018 3:17 pm : link
is going to Holder, it may have been worth a shot with Betances. Still haven't seen that guy get a big out yet

Moron move of the day by Boone. Sending Betances back out and then bringing Holder with tomorrow off.
LOL..
FatMan in Charlotte : 5/6/2018 3:20 pm : link
so I guess we're back to the narrative that Betances sucks?

They have a short bullpen today and tried to get him to go two innings.
Oh Gary.
bceagle05 : 5/6/2018 3:20 pm : link
.
It was Betances or Shreve. So I could see sticking with Betances.
yatqb : 5/6/2018 3:21 pm : link
If we had Kahnle or Warren he'd have had more options.
I had no
Photoguy : 5/6/2018 3:22 pm : link
quarrel with Betances starting the 8th.
Tough spot for sure
Kyle in NY : 5/6/2018 3:24 pm : link
at the very least I would have liked to see them get Dellin after the lead off man gets on. You know the runner is going to be distracting him. Now he's got three runs charged to him because Holder can't strand an inherited runner to save his life. And it feels like a lot of the progress Betances had been making is reversed again
I know they're
Photoguy : 5/6/2018 3:24 pm : link
eventually going to hit, but right now it's painful to see half the lineup struggling. I understand too, that we've seen some extremely talented pitching. Hope the day off gives everyone a well deserved rest.

I'm getting the sense that Holder is turning out to be another Bryan Mitchell. A flash here, a flash there, total mediocrity in between.
Clevenger up to about 110 pitches
Greg from LI : 5/6/2018 3:27 pm : link
Cmon, someone hit on hard dammit
Keep in mind
Kyle in NY : 5/6/2018 3:28 pm : link
this is I believe their 18th consecutive game without a day off. It's showing a little bit with the hitters and the bullpen situation. Still going to win the series against a top team. It's all good
Not really much other choice
arniefez : 5/6/2018 3:30 pm : link
Hale, Cole, Holder. They're basically 3 pitchers short. There are going to be days like this with those 3 guys the end of the bullpen.
Yep, and they were 16-1 in the first 17
Greg from LI : 5/6/2018 3:30 pm : link
And still could pull this one out yet
Gleyber came up huge the last time he batted in a big spot
