NFT: Avengers movie question, no spoilers

Sneakers O'toole : 5/7/2018 12:57 pm
Going to go see it later this week, but have missed a bunch of the other Marvel movies. I have seen all the actual Avenger titles.

I know all of these movies build on each other, how lost am I going to be?

Should I not bother? Going with friends
Id say if you havent seen....
Italianju : 5/7/2018 1:07 pm : link
the GOTG movies, Civil War, or Thor ragnorak you will be a bit lost. Add in Dr. Strange and Black panther as possible ones as well. I mean they do briefly setup people, but they def dont spend time explaining who everyone is. You will probably still enjoy it, but you might want to at least find like some youtube cliff notes of the above movies, ha.
I went
larryinnewhaven : 5/7/2018 1:07 pm : link
yesterday. The opening kind of starts you off where the last left off but otherwise its not too bad to follow. Non stop action, 2:40 minutes though
You are probably OK

GO for it. You might not be familiar with every character if you haven't seen Dr. Strange, Gaurdians 2, or the latest Thor. It's not like you have to 100% current or know the precise location of every infinity stone going into the movie. Also, while Infinity War might spoil the previous marvel movies, you are better off seeing Infinity WAR before it gets spoiled for you. Jsut my two cents
You will be fine
The 12th Man : 5/7/2018 1:08 pm : link
there is a few things that will be a spoiler but not many. If you have not seen Black Panther, when you do you will know how it turns out. Other than that you should be fine. I liked Black Panther a lot. Avengers was good but did not think it was as good as the Black Panther.
You pretty much need to see....
Jint 77 : 5/7/2018 1:08 pm : link
Captain America Civil War

Guardians of Galaxy Volume 1

Thor 3 Ragnarok, (Thor 2 Darkworld.... to a lesser extent)

Dr. Strange.

They all a have direct connection to Infinite War because of the Infinite Stones, and or Cap, Bucky, and Tachalla.
It depends
Gary from The East End : Admin : 5/7/2018 1:09 pm : link
Thinking about it, outside of the other two Avengers movies, you probably should have seen

Black Panther, Thor:Ragnarok and at least one of the Guardians Of The Galaxy movies.

If you didn't see Black Panther you will be missing a whole lot of why they are in Wakanda and who all the supporting folks are. If you have not seen GOTG then you will not get the "family" ties or a really good sense of what these Stones can do.

It is a great movie- I have seen it twice so far and will see it again.
Ive seen the first guardians movie
Sneakers O'toole : 5/7/2018 1:19 pm : link
And am somewhat familiar with the characters, if not the plots of some of those other Marvel films. I'll go see it and backtrack the other ones probably
I was in the exact same boat as you
ShocknAwe80 : 5/7/2018 1:22 pm : link
except I had seen the first GOTG movie, and Thor Ragnorak...
Here is what my buddy told me:
- Dr. Strange has an infinity stone
- Black Panther is from Wakanda which has the best technology in the world

that's it... I enjoyed the movie immensely
If you really want to know the entire "Infinity" storyline,
Ben in Tampa : 5/7/2018 1:22 pm : link
You'd want to have seen:

Captain America 1, The Avengers, Thor 2, Guardians of the Galaxy 1, Avengers 2, Captain America 3, Dr. Strange, Thor 3 & Black Panther

... but really, that movie is straight action from start to finish and you'll be able to pick up the jist very quick.
Cool
Sneakers O'toole : 5/7/2018 1:27 pm : link
Tickets are already reserved so I'm just going to go enjoy it. Thanks guys
Another question
Burtman : 5/7/2018 1:35 pm : link
Is this a movie that should be seen in 3D or it doesn't really matter?
I would recommend watching at least the first GOG
Jay on the Island : 5/7/2018 1:35 pm : link
If you have time watch civil war
Forget 3D...
Chris in Philly : 5/7/2018 1:42 pm : link
You don't need that.
At minimum...
Chris in Philly : 5/7/2018 1:44 pm : link
I would say beyond the Avengers movies, Captain America 2 and 3 (which are the best 2 MCU movies anyway, imho), GOTG 1 and Black Panther should ideally be seen first. But like every is saying, you won't miss a major beat if you dont see them...

Yep. Just go see it. All I have seen was Avengers 1 and Age of whatever and I went and saw it. Not that big of a deal.

Trust me, the less you need to see of Thor 2, the happier you will be.
Here's an Infinity Stone rundown without spoilers
Bramton1 : 5/7/2018 2:16 pm : link
Power Stone: Purple. Featured in GOTG. In possession of the Nova Corps on Xandar.

Space Stone (aka Tessaract): Blue. Featured in Captain America, The Avengers. Appeared in last 20 of Thor: Ragnarok. May or may not be on Asgard.

Reality Stone (aka the Aether): Red. Featured in Thor: The Dark World. In possession of The Collector on Knowhere.

Soul Stone: Orange. Whereabouts unknown.

Time Stone: Green. Featured in Doctor Strange. In possession of Doctor Strange on Earth.

Mind Stone: Yellow. Featured in The Avengers, Avengers: Age of Ultron. In possession of The Vision on Earth.
There are a couple of good "What you need to know before seeing I.W."
Giantfan in skinland : 5/7/2018 2:22 pm : link
articles floating around the internet. If you spend a few minutes reading one of those, you're probably all set (in addition to the points made above).

The couple other important points from Thor Ragnarok that I think might be helpful to understand:

1. Thor's hammer was destroyed
2. Thor came across and then was joined by the Hulk in space (who had flown off in the Avengers jet at the end of Avengers: Age of Ultron).
3. Thor lead the Asgardians off their planet as it was being destroyed. His brother Loki, who he appears to have reconciled with, may or may not have stolen the infinity stone they were guarding on Asgard from their father's vault as the planet was being destroyed and they were making their escape.
4. Jeff Goldblum noted that Asgard (pronounced Ass Guard) is a funny name. Not important for Infinity War, but a good moment from T.R. that never occurred to me and is, in fact, pretty funny.

+1, good spoiler free breakdown.

If possible, try to find a movie cinema that is still showing Black Panther. Not critical but you'll get a lot of plot points from it and it's a great film.

Plus if you got time, rent Thor Ragnarok from Redbox or check it out for free from a local library. Story-line leads into the Avengers film.
I mean you can but
Rory : 5/7/2018 2:50 pm : link
but you will enjoy it better with all the back story, you're going to have a ton of questions.
You have to see:
ATL_Giants : 5/7/2018 4:19 pm : link
-The Godfather
-Braveheart
-Logan

But as for your question: I think it's pretty self explanatory. Reading this thread gives you all need, go and have fun man!
