Kickoff and Punt Returns

Mike from SI : 5/8/2018 9:57 am
How does BBI feel about:
1. Saquon returning kicks?
2. Saquon and Odell returning kicks?
3. Saquon returning punts? (I'm not sure whether he did this in college or not.)
4. Saquon and Odell both lining up as punt returners in a gimmick look?

I'm in favor of all 4, but I know many on here still have Jason Sehorn nightmares. Assuming we do use Saquon as a kick returner, it should be an improvement.

None of the above. I'm forever jaded by the idea after the Sehorn injury.

Gallman figure that out. Keep Barkley/OBJ fresh

Late in close games.
I’m against it, always have been.

Was against the Sehorn move as well, albeit, I seem to be in the minority.

They probably eliminate KOs entirely in the next few years, if not sooner

^^^ This ^^^

If we are in a late close game, I could see them doing it, but he is not going to do it on every kick off return, due to the injury risks.

It's one thing when have someone like David Wilson, who didn't come in and start and was drafted at 32 and wasn't one of the highest paid RBs at the position.

It's quite another when you draft an RB at 2 and make him a top 5 paid RB. You aren't paying someone that kind of money and risking him on KO returns.

Agreed, I wouldn't take the risk unless you absolutely had to. However, it would be fun to put Barkley and Beckham back deep as dual punt returners a few times.
I am fine letting both of them return punts but not kickoffs

KO Returns can clearly go to someone lower on depth chart.

It will be nice to see how the STs play now that Quinn is gone, one of BBIs favorite punching bags...and deservedly so.
Is there any evidence....

that returning a punt or kickoff is more dangerous than a rushing or receiving attempt?

Probably not
Jimmy Googs : 5/8/2018 12:36 pm : link
but it depends who's throwing...

No. Most people just use a sample size of Sehorn to justify their opposition to it.

Sehorn is certainly a random sample!!!!
Didn’t the NFL change where the kickoffs were from

because they had stats eluding to the KO play being potentially more dangerous?

Not sure what else caused it to be changed...
Neither of them should ever try and return any kind of kick!

Remember Jason Sehorn!
Putting him and Odell back there occasionally when they need a spark
Brown Recluse : 5/8/2018 4:12 pm : link
is fine with me. It seemed like every kick Odell returned would have been a touchdown if not for some stupid penalty.

One incident that happened 20 years ago shouldn't have any bearing on the present.

I can't help but think if they were not more dangerous than other plays, why is there always talk of removing kickoffs altogether?
