with the Sox playing reasonably well. They were playing bad teams, but they were playing roughly .500 ball. We, by contrast, were playing good teams and reeling off winning streaks. But yes, they're still a good team and a dangerous team. If they stay healthy, particularly their rotation, they can be very competitive and give us a run for our money, especially if our rotation has health problems.
are still no joke. Sale is amazing and Betts is killing it. Should be a good series!
Sale isn't appearing in this series. Pomeranz, Price, Porcello. The first two are very favorable pitching matchups for us, and we have CC going against Porcello in the third game.
its my 50th BDay today and my Brother is in from Israel with his wife, Gonna bring over take-out Chinese and enjoy the ballgame. Me and the bro are going tomorrow night. should be a great series. Can't wait for tonight Â
* gotta like the pitching match up. Seve usually comes out nasty in a return match with a team that beat him
* Yanks big guys looked a little impatient, pull happy against CLE. When they take, or go to the opposite field with that low and away pitch, they are dangerous. When they try to jack it, they are K machines. Need El Gary to snap out of his mini-funk.

Potentially yes, but at this point NYY/Houston is a pretty good matchup too, as is NYY/Cleveland (or either team vs. the Sox). You just get the drama a round earlier.

I'm going friday night vs oakland.
Thanks Keith. Our dad passed away when we were young and he's 3 years older so growing up and into adulthood we are like best friends. He moved to Israel 20 years ago. comes in just about every year, we try to get out to a game when he comes but the last few years it hasn't worked out that they were home. We've been to a ton of games over the years even went on some Big Blue Travel trips back in the early 90's. It will be fun. Yea taking the kids out Saturday too for Didi Bat day (my daughter's favorite player)
started when Lou Piniella ran over Fisk at HP. Gammons also has a cool pick on his twitter feed from what he says was the worst brawl between the 2 teams in '73. Link - ( New Window )
Being held hostage in New England for the past 50 years, I have the added burden of listening to the Sox announcers for the play by play. Last year Ekersley gave us credit for noghing.

Maybe I'm wrong but I can't imagine the Sox have too many guys that would want to have Judge, Stanton, Sanchez, Betances coming at them in a brawl

And Tyler Austin ain’t no little guy either. Watching the replay from when he charged, Kelly was backing away pretty quickly
It's great the rivalry is back. Not that I've ever liked the Sox, but these are 2 of the best teams in baseball so things have definitely turned back up a notch.
Severino's confidence has to be sky high after a complete game shutout. Let's hope for a repeat performance!
Am excited about how Yanks have played so far... Â
I knew Didi was having a good year, but he is leading the team in:
- BA: .311
- HR: 10
- RBIs: 30
- Runs: 27
He was expected to have year, but this is Wow. Particularly when you see the star players in the Yankees lineup that he is out hitting (e.g., Judge, Stanton, Sanchez)
Cash pranked Alex Cora by putting an "I LOVE PHIL NEVIN" sticker on his back while he was standing behind the cage during batting practice. Juvenile, but I like the cut of your jib, Cash.
even the idiot Boston tv guys are saying that this may be a bigger issue with his elbow OR it may be that Price fears the Yankee batting order, which they suspect.
Childish Bambino? What’s that supposed to mean? I missed it, was he insinuating that Gleyber is somehow childish? Just wondering the context. “Childish” isn’t exactly a complimentary nickname, is it?
Ah ok, thanks Keith. I’m not familiar with that so I guess it went right over my head. Knowing Kay, I just figured he didn’t like the way Gleyber celebrated or something...who knows with that guy
Houston, IMO, is still the best team in baseball Â
Until proven otherwise when the game really matter. Anyway, should be a really fun series on tap here with some life and badly needed bad blood back in THE rivalry

Their rotation is what sets them apart. They don't even have Whitley yet. I can't believe how weak the package the Pirates accepted for Cole was compared to what they wanted from the Yankees.

Houston will likely be looking to land 2 of the best available relievers at the deadline. It would be negligent to let a fool like Ken Giles detail a potential back2back. A guy like Hand from San Diego perhaps. Maybe Ottavino, althoigh Colorado is pretty good
Except he's a good catcher overall. Frames well and has a cannon arm that virtually no one runs on.
I would say he has the ability and talent to be a very good catcher. And he does most things better than most. But he is very poor at blocking the low ones. He may be just to big to make that play. IDK, but it adds numerous extra pitches and a 4th out for the opposing team.
He still may turn it around but if Frazier continues to hit in AAA he may force the Yankees' hand. But I honestly don't see the Yanks giving up on Gardy this year. He's gonna get a long time to sort himself out.
He hasn't been nearly as sharp as he was against Houston, but that just shows how good he is now when he only allows 1 run, 11 Ks and 0 BB without his best command
RE: Maybe they do give Gardner a long time yet to right the ship Â
At the beginning of his wind up he takes this small quirky step forward. I thought once you go forward toward the plate you have to finish the process and can't go back. Am I missing something???
RE: How does Pomeranz not get called for a balk?? Â

Noticed that too. So weird
RE: Most of the lineup has been struggling over the last week. Â
It's only Torres that's been hitting well. Judge, Didi, Sanchez, Andujar have especially struggled.
It’s fair to assign part of it to facing mostly very good pitchers vs Houston and Cleveland IMO...but all the guys you mentioned have been fouling off meatball fastballs they should be crushing tonight
RE: Maybe they do give Gardner a long time yet to right the ship Â
Amazingly frustrating game so far. They should be killing the Red Sox this game. Instead it's tied and they're a hit or yet another Sanchez passed ball away from losing the lead.
If the Yankees want to become a championship team this year Â
they have to sure up their defense. That's three outs tonight they should've made but didn't. Sanchez passes ball, Austin missed scoop, and Torres dropping the tag that would've been out #3.

Yup, sloppy play tonight, cost Sevy about 20 extra pitches and didn’t have room for error with the bats mostly silent tonight
Still 2-2, let’s see if someone wants to hit and turn it over to Chappy. Save us again Gleyber?
Pomeranz throwing slop and nobody but Stanton could Â

Austin's play was more on Didi for a bad short hop throw. Need to reach the bag or skip it not bounce it 3 feet from the glove.
a great throw, Walker for starting another go ahead rally with a ringing double, and all 4 guys who pitched for working around some sloppy defense to keep the Sox hot bats mostly in check.
Tied for 1st, let’s stay there the rest of the way boys!!
but it's gotten to the point that I wasn't worried at all when the Sox tied it up. Sure enough a run the very next half inning. It is just pure fun to watch these games.
That was just a moronic decision by Nevin regardless of Benintendi's arm. Let Didi hit with 1 out and bases loaded. We won, but this was an ugly performance in several areas.
Gleyber and Walker are the only ones hitting over .300. Nearly everyone else is at .227 and below. Something's gotta give.......I'm amazed that we've been streaking with those BA's. Seems one or two guys get key hits, and that's what's doing it.

Thing is the pitching has been superb. What will probably happen is when we start raking the pitchers will cool off a bit...
wow - just seeing the replay of Judge's fielding and throw Â
to kill that double attempt by Vasquez early in the game. Good lord - this guy is a great RF. I've seen Maris, Barfield, Paul O and many others - haven't seen a better RF play than that.
but it's gotten to the point that I wasn't worried at all when the Sox tied it up. Sure enough a run the very next half inning. It is just pure fun to watch these games.
Cool down? Their bats are nearly completely asleep! I expect them to heat up if anything. Gardner? Slumping. Didi? In a funk. Stanton? Been okay of late but only okay. Sanchez? Really slumping. Austin? Terrible since coming back from suspension. Andujar? Really bad except for the walk off single.
The pitching has been otherworldly to this point with a short BP. If this team ever starts firing on all cylinders, we will crush.
And Jim Kaat has really fallen off. Combining him with Costas makes it worst. He called one of Pomernaz' 77 mph looping curves a "cutter on the outside corner" and then when Vasquez stopped a ball in the dirt, pointed out the difference in catching styles from he and Sanchez. He pointed out how good Vasquez was defensively. Wasnt Vasquez the only catcher who had more passed balls than Sanchez?
...truly epitomizes the sort of MLB player that you've got to see play everyday to fully appreciate how important he is to the team.
It's still very early, but right now I'm not sure his .198 AVG / .320 OBP is enough to justify his presence in the line-up every day.
The guy has been forever youthful, but I'm beginning to wonder if Father Time has put his hand on Gardy's shoulder?
If by allstar break he is still at .200, then they have to do something. I'm not sure Frazier gives the same defense that Gardner does and he is certainly not a leadoff hitter. But Father TIme may be knocking..

I don’t think Gardner is quite done yet. His .256 BABIP suggests some bad luck, especially combined with a nearly identical batted ball profile from last year. While this may indeed be his last year as a Yankee and possibly as a big leaguer, Brett Gardner is the heart and sole of this team. We need him desperately to make another deep playoff push. He’ll deliver
Love me some Gardy too, but right now he’s a big hole at Â
Hicks has been very good getting on base vs righties, .389 last season, .390 so far this season, he could lead off against righties.
Judge, or eventually Torres could lead off against lefties - Hicks OBP against lefties isn’t as good
I still think Gardy’s defensive value is very important to this team, he plays Yankee Stadium left field as well as anyone I’ve seen since the early 80s, and we saw how valuable he was playing centerfield while Hicks was hurt (which has been somewhat common so far in his Yankee career)
I don’t think Gardy loses his starting spot outright yet, but I’d vote to hit him 9th right now
* Gardy, Sanchez, Andujar, Didi, and even Judge to an extent all slumping. Sanchez down to .193
* Love El Gary, but please, catch the fucking ball. He has to make that block on Strike 3. It's likely that Seve finishes 7 and gets the win, and they save a bullpen arm if he stops that ball. Can't keep asking guys to get 4 outs.
I'm trying to think of others who were really good out there. Tom Tresh was excellent. Ricky Henderson was adequate. Am I blanking on anyone?
But he's pulling his head off the ball when he swings this year. Perhaps the power surge of last year has gotten him overswinging. Right now he's ugly at the plate.
I agree about Gardy getting at least a month to work this out at the plate. Frankly with Hicks not doing a whole lot either we aren't loaded with options at lead off. I'd rather not throw Gleyber up there just yet.

Tresh was before my time, I know Rickey was considered a top defensive outfielder but my enduring memory of him in the field are his silly snatch catches.
Matsui always played solid LF, never gold glove caliber but he was better than average IMO...probably the best defensive LF who manned the spot for an extended stretch I think, before Gardner
Paulie O played some left field when we first traded for him...so did Winfield for that matter...but both moved to right field within a year or so of joining the Yanks IIRC
LF in the late 90s was always manned by role player guys like Chad Curtis, Shane Spencer, Ricky Ledee. They even buried Knoblauch out there once the yips overcame him at 2B.
Gerald Williams was pretty good out there until we traded him mid season in 96
Clint Frazier could be an upgrade at the plate, but he will absolutely be a downgrade in the field.
Yeah, he's a good fielder for sure, but he had a bad play last night in a big spot.
I love the guy, but he's off to a slow start all around this year and that gets you wondering if he's starting to get cooked. I'm hoping for a resurgence of course because the offense is on another level when he's hitting and walking in front of Judge. Gardy butchered this one - ( New Window )
Geez the guy is 34, not 40. He's in great shape. He's always been streaky, just its usually the opposite, he starts out hot the first half then fades. Maybe this year it will be the other way around.
Ok, he nearly gave an inside the parker to Mookie, but he played it perfectly - gold glove play.
I love Gardy, but the defensive stats back up the eyeball test for me. He doesn't look the same in the field or at the plate - at least to me. Maybe he's playing banged up because we don't have Frazier or Ellsbury to take his place right now. Maybe it's a slump. Time will tell.
player. Given how huge LF is at the Stadium you'd think that might have been different for the Yanks, but I don't think so.
Raines was a good LF, Henderson too, but no one in my memory covered more ground or made more hard plays look routine than Gardy.
LF at Yankee Stadium is HUGE?? Since when? It hasn't been huge since the 2nd version of the stadium was 430 ft. to left center. Lefty hitters get opposite field HRs now.
We do this at some point every year over the last few Â
wondering if Gardner’s done, or if it’s time to move on My money’s on that he will go on a run at some point, and everyone will say, “Huh, remember when we are all wondering if he was done!?” Happens every year now. Rinse/Repeat.
I said he took a risk and failed. And the team didn't suffer because of it.
Basically, he either makes the catch to save a run or it falls and Betts is in scoring position no matter if he dives or not.
So barring Betts getting an inside the park HR, what exactly did it cost them?
you're right, Robertson k'd Benintendi and ended the inning so it didn't cost them. A good defensive play there would have held Betts to a double. You win though, because I don't give a shit about this dumb argument. The stats that Gardner is not a plus defender this year are fake news. I concede.

Yeah it’s not as big as it used to be, but still a lot of ground to cover.
The bigger challenge IMO is the tight left field corner leads to a lot of funky bounces, Gardy’s almost always played them beautifully
I said he took a risk and failed. And the team didn't suffer because of it.

What stats say he isn't a plus fielder so far? I'm seeing 0.5 dWWAR on baseball reference
he's a double-digit DWAR guy per BR, 125 career defensive runs saved, he doesn't have a great arm by any means but his range factors are always topnotch. LF has limited positional value, so it's skewed downward relative to his CF performance in the metrics that account for the difference, but he's still an elite defensive LF.
And I say that noting that Gardner is an offensive nonfactor... Â
who should be dropped in the lineup and should sit at least 1-2x more a week than he has so far.
That will be easier if/when Frazier gets back on the club. Right now Stanton seems a defensive liability out there.
I'm not entirely sure Frazier comes back, unless he forces the issue or someone else gets injured. They are comfortable with the quartet they have, in which Gardy is the weak link offensively.
Hicks, of course, has been highly disappointing as well. Â
There has to be a way to pull Frazier into the mix. His Ks have been really worrisome, though. 13 in the last 39 abs.
Despite all of the power, the Yankees run production has fallen considerably. I expect Drury for Andujar pretty soon, too. Andujar needs work on his pitch selection--it's gotten a lot worse recently, so he ks more or hits bad pitches. He just needs more seasoning, I think.
boy from some of these posts you would think Gardner is the only one Â
in a slump. Judges avg has dropped 40 points in the last 2 weeks, Didi 30 points, Sanchez from .212 to .193 since Friday. Andujar also slumping. Stanton has been up and down.
But they are still winning thanks to the pitching.
is he usually hits the skids in the SECOND half. I think the Yankees wanted to preserve him a bit more this year with days off, but Ellsbury and Frazier injuries (not to mention Hicks and McKinney) have spoiled those plans.
I still think we're a long way off from a shakeup - right now much of the lineup is slumping.
could climb the wall like no other. Gardner gets a little intimidated with/by the wall. As for Gardner's faux pas last night it didn't cost the Yanks. Betts got an extra base at third but Sanchez managed to avoid his habitual PB routine so we dodged a bullet.
I am not a Gardner fan. There were two years back in '10 and '11 where he stole 45+ bases. Then he stopped being that type threatening base runner. He is a 265 ish hitter with too many K's for my liking considering he is a singles hitter. Its a position that needs an upgrade.
People waiting for him to awaken are dreaming and devoutly loyal to the player. He is a holdover from the days of mediocre
Gardy of five years ago would have been a great role player on any team. Gardy of two years ago would have been a serviceable role player on any team, especially one that got plenty of offense - specifically pop - from elsewhere. The Gardy of this year, unfortunately, is an offensive non-factor, and while the lineup is good enough to cover that up there are enough people not hitting that it's at least worth considering sacrificing defense to get another bat in the lineup.
3-4 times a week. As others have pointed out, he traditionally falls off as the season progresses. His production is always frontloaded to the 1s half.
Not a big deal at this point. He's gone after this year.
In semi-Yankee related news, the A's called up Dustin Fowler Â
because of his slow start. He's consistently been a 3-4 win player since he became a regular. That is not a 4th OF. He was excellent last season, 4.9 WAR, 21 HR, 778 OPS, GG defense, and an important veteran leader for a young team.
Maybe he's done, but that would surprise me. I wouldn't write him off just yet. Regardless, he's had a very good career here.
Michael King yanked at 100 pitches (70 strikes) with two outs in the 9th, 3 H 0 R 0 ER 0 BB 8 Ks, 14:3 GB:FB and a season 1.53 ERA. Trevor Lane stranded the only baserunner. King with an unfortunate ND after an absolute gem.

Agree completely. That's what I loved most about the Houston series - two good teams getting after it, with none of that other nonsense. If the benches do clear, I hope Judge finds Joe Kelly and heaves him into the bleachers.
Let's hope for a repeat performance!
...but I ain't getting too jazzed over a home series against the BoSox this early in the season.
Hell we could get swept but eventually run away with the division, or vice versa. Who knows?
But 3 games in early May? I ain't gonna get too high or too low. Just doesn't matter right now!

With a productive Austin, I like that line up very much.
Childish Bambino.
lol
Childish Bambino? What’s that supposed to mean? I missed it, was he insinuating that Gleyber is somehow childish? Just wondering the context. “Childish” isn’t exactly a complimentary nickname, is it?
Ah ok, thanks Keith. I’m not familiar with that so I guess it went right over my head. Knowing Kay, I just figured he didn’t like the way Gleyber celebrated or something...who knows with that guy
Their rotation is what sets them apart. They don't even have Whitley yet. I can't believe how weak the package the Pirates accepted for Cole was compared to what they wanted from the Yankees.

I think there are a lot of pitchers who are screwing with that rule. Clevenger and now Pomeranz. Crack down on the pitchers who aren't setting.

Yes I noticed that the other day as well. I hate that it gets no mention
Yikes. If I'm Schowalter I'd resign. This team is awful.
Still can’t believe Yanks let those slugs take 3 of 4, even though it was early on
1-0
Numbness in the fingers probably
And the deadly accurate throw from Judge....
Lots of Pomeranz stuff is off the end of the bat.
Lots of Pomeranz stuff is off the end of the bat.
Stanton remembering he doesn’t have to swing that hard, hes so strong a fly ball to RF is a home run for him in this park
Except he's a good catcher overall. Frames well and has a cannon arm that virtually no one runs on.
Think they called it a wild pitch but Sanchez should have blocked it, big slider in the dirt
Wild pitch

I would say he has the ability and talent to be a very good catcher. And he does most things better than most. But he is very poor at blocking the low ones. He may be just to big to make that play. IDK, but it adds numerous extra pitches and a 4th out for the opposing team.
If a WP, yes that is earned. If a PB (error) not an earned run.
Yeah. He's tossed a lot of garbage pitched right down the middle that have been fouled off.
Yeah this has the feel of a really aggravating loss, even though Sevy still looking strong with a 2-1 lead
They've been iffy few a week or so..Once Didi and Andujar cooled off, the production has been down.
He still may turn it around but if Frazier continues to hit in AAA he may force the Yankees' hand. But I honestly don't see the Yanks giving up on Gardy this year. He's gonna get a long time to sort himself out.
If he gets out of 6 with around 100, he will stay, I think.
He hasn't been nearly as sharp as he was against Houston, but that just shows how good he is now when he only allows 1 run, 11 Ks and 0 BB without his best command
Agreed. I don’t know why this hasn’t already happened.
Noticed that too. So weird
It’s fair to assign part of it to facing mostly very good pitchers vs Houston and Cleveland IMO...but all the guys you mentioned have been fouling off meatball fastballs they should be crushing tonight
I think the issue is not having another guy in the lineup who you can put at the top. Who do you bat first, Judge?
Now 3 strikes///
Yup, sloppy play tonight, cost Sevy about 20 extra pitches and didn’t have room for error with the bats mostly silent tonight
Still 2-2, let’s see if someone wants to hit and turn it over to Chappy. Save us again Gleyber?
And Sanchez needs to improve on defense, and game calling too.
Once Drury and Bird come back, Gardner might have to sit.
Austin's play was more on Didi for a bad short hop throw. Need to reach the bag or skip it not bounce it 3 feet from the glove.
Against lefties, I don’t think Torres would be so bad.
Quote:

Hicks has hit 1st. I like Torres. Good plate discipline. Boone likely doesn't want to put that much pressure on him, but in a couple weeks,..
No the Red Sox would be fortunate should they win. They have done really nothing.
He ain't pitching to chopped liver. Very good hitting team, maybe the best in baseball. Except for Bradley and the catcher, good sticks.
It's not a bad idea, especially if the lead stays at 1.
They have a couple of excellent hitters, a couple of decent hitters, and a bunch of garbage hitters.
No effin way do you take Sanchez bat out of the lineup.
Talk about running into a pitch.. He was just lucky.
Need to bring the bats tomorrow
Great job Stanton
sliders.
Tied for 1st, let’s stay there the rest of the way boys!!
lol...yeah
Welcome to first place!
Glad for the win tho.
That was just a moronic decision by Nevin regardless of Benintendi's arm. Let Didi hit with 1 out and bases loaded. We won, but this was an ugly performance in several areas.
Or is it just my TV.
Thing is the pitching has been superb. What will probably happen is when we start raking the pitchers will cool off a bit...
I know most hate him, but he even makes fun of himself for his big head.
If this team ever starts firing on all cylinders, we will crush.
...truly epitomizes the sort of MLB player that you've got to see play everyday to fully appreciate how important he is to the team.

I don’t think Gardy loses his starting spot outright yet, but I’d vote to hit him 9th right now
* Love El Gary, but please, catch the fucking ball. He has to make that block on Strike 3. It's likely that Seve finishes 7 and gets the win, and they save a bullpen arm if he stops that ball. Can't keep asking guys to get 4 outs.
But he's pulling his head off the ball when he swings this year. Perhaps the power surge of last year has gotten him overswinging. Right now he's ugly at the plate.
I agree if this is the situation at the break, some alternatives will need to be considered.
He is still a plus fielder.
He is still a plus fielder.
He took a path to try to catch the ball to preserve the lead, knowing that if he didn't get to it that the ball would likely get all the way the wall.
The way he dove, he knew he wasn't catching it (or cutting it off) and was just trying to knock the ball down and keep it from getting to the wall.
He's a really good fielder, with a not so great arm.
That plus health issues, indicates this is a very good team.
But he's pulling his head off the ball when he swings this year. Perhaps the power surge of last year has gotten him overswinging. Right now he's ugly at the plate.
Gerald Williams was pretty good out there until we traded him mid season in 96
Yeah, he's a good fielder for sure, but he had a bad play last night in a big spot.
I love the guy, but he's off to a slow start all around this year and that gets you wondering if he's starting to get cooked. I'm hoping for a resurgence of course because the offense is on another level when he's hitting and walking in front of Judge.
Gardy butchered this one - ( New Window )
Unless he could catch the ball, the end result is exactly the same as if he backed up and played it on a bounce.
The tying run was going to score on any hit and Betts was going to get at least a double.
Gardner tried to prevent the run by making a diving catch, realized he wasn't going to make the play and couldn't stop the ball.
If Betts gets an inside the park HR - that's a different outcome.
Otherwise, Gardy's risk resulted in no additional impact.
Raines was a good LF, Henderson too, but no one in my memory covered more ground or made more hard plays look routine than Gardy.
I love Gardy, but the defensive stats back up the eyeball test for me. He doesn't look the same in the field or at the plate - at least to me. Maybe he's playing banged up because we don't have Frazier or Ellsbury to take his place right now. Maybe it's a slump. Time will tell.
I said he took a risk and failed. And the team didn't suffer because of it.
Basically, he either makes the catch to save a run or it falls and Betts is in scoring position no matter if he dives or not.
So barring Betts getting an inside the park HR, what exactly did it cost them?
Can't wait til Bird returns.
Raines was a good LF, Henderson too, but no one in my memory covered more ground or made more hard plays look routine than Gardy.
LF at Yankee Stadium is HUGE?? Since when? It hasn't been huge since the 2nd version of the stadium was 430 ft. to left center. Lefty hitters get opposite field HRs now.

you're right, Robertson k'd Benintendi and ended the inning so it didn't cost them. A good defensive play there would have held Betts to a double. You win though, because I don't give a shit about this dumb argument. The stats that Gardner is not a plus defender this year are fake news. I concede.

player. Given how huge LF is at the Stadium you'd think that might have been different for the Yanks, but I don't think so.

Yeah it’s not as big as it used to be, but still a lot of ground to cover.
The bigger challenge IMO is the tight left field corner leads to a lot of funky bounces, Gardy’s almost always played them beautifully

What stats say he isn't a plus fielder so far? I'm seeing 0.5 dWWAR on baseball reference
Fake News?? How about incomplete news. We are not even 1/5th into the season!

This exactly
That will be easier if/when Frazier gets back on the club. Right now Stanton seems a defensive liability out there.

I'm not entirely sure Frazier comes back, unless he forces the issue or someone else gets injured. They are comfortable with the quartet they have, in which Gardy is the weak link offensively.
Despite all of the power, the Yankees run production has fallen considerably. I expect Drury for Andujar pretty soon, too. Andujar needs work on his pitch selection--it's gotten a lot worse recently, so he ks more or hits bad pitches. He just needs more seasoning, I think.
But they are still winning thanks to the pitching.
I still think we're a long way off from a shakeup - right now much of the lineup is slumping.
He mentions, himself, that the headaches/vision issues are ongoing, and he doesn't at all seem to be in a rush back to the big leagues. He seems to just want to get his health issues straightened out and go from there - which may be tricky as they certainly appear to be chronic.
From yesterday - Why Yankees' Brandon Drury isn't worried Miguel Andujar is stealing his job - ( New Window )
Not a big deal at this point. He's gone after this year.
Maybe he's done, but that would surprise me. I wouldn't write him off just yet. Regardless, he's had a very good career here.
Perhaps afraid of Yanks?
