a great throw, Walker for starting another go ahead rally with a ringing double, and all 4 guys who pitched for working around some sloppy defense to keep the Sox hot bats mostly in check.
Tied for 1st, let’s stay there the rest of the way boys!!
but it's gotten to the point that I wasn't worried at all when the Sox tied it up. Sure enough a run the very next half inning. It is just pure fun to watch these games.
That was just a moronic decision by Nevin regardless of Benintendi's arm. Let Didi hit with 1 out and bases loaded. We won, but this was an ugly performance in several areas.
Gleyber and Walker are the only ones hitting over .300. Nearly everyone else is at .227 and below. Something's gotta give.......I'm amazed that we've been streaking with those BA's. Seems one or two guys get key hits, and that's what's doing it.

Thing is the pitching has been superb. What will probably happen is when we start raking the pitchers will cool off a bit...
wow - just seeing the replay of Judge's fielding and throw Â
to kill that double attempt by Vasquez early in the game. Good lord - this guy is a great RF. I've seen Maris, Barfield, Paul O and many others - haven't seen a better RF play than that.

Cool down? Their bats are nearly completely asleep! I expect them to heat up if anything. Gardner? Slumping. Didi? In a funk. Stanton? Been okay of late but only okay. Sanchez? Really slumping. Austin? Terrible since coming back from suspension. Andujar? Really bad except for the walk off single.
The pitching has been otherworldly to this point with a short BP. If this team ever starts firing on all cylinders, we will crush.
And Jim Kaat has really fallen off. Combining him with Costas makes it worst. He called one of Pomernaz' 77 mph looping curves a "cutter on the outside corner" and then when Vasquez stopped a ball in the dirt, pointed out the difference in catching styles from he and Sanchez. He pointed out how good Vasquez was defensively. Wasnt Vasquez the only catcher who had more passed balls than Sanchez?
...truly epitomizes the sort of MLB player that you've got to see play everyday to fully appreciate how important he is to the team.
It's still very early, but right now I'm not sure his .198 AVG / .320 OBP is enough to justify his presence in the line-up every day.
The guy has been forever youthful, but I'm beginning to wonder if Father Time has put his hand on Gardy's shoulder?
If by allstar break he is still at .200, then they have to do something. I'm not sure Frazier gives the same defense that Gardner does and he is certainly not a leadoff hitter. But Father TIme may be knocking..

I don’t think Gardner is quite done yet. His .256 BABIP suggests some bad luck, especially combined with a nearly identical batted ball profile from last year. While this may indeed be his last year as a Yankee and possibly as a big leaguer, Brett Gardner is the heart and sole of this team. We need him desperately to make another deep playoff push. He’ll deliver
Love me some Gardy too, but right now he’s a big hole at Â
Hicks has been very good getting on base vs righties, .389 last season, .390 so far this season, he could lead off against righties.
Judge, or eventually Torres could lead off against lefties - Hicks OBP against lefties isn’t as good
I still think Gardy’s defensive value is very important to this team, he plays Yankee Stadium left field as well as anyone I’ve seen since the early 80s, and we saw how valuable he was playing centerfield while Hicks was hurt (which has been somewhat common so far in his Yankee career)
I don’t think Gardy loses his starting spot outright yet, but I’d vote to hit him 9th right now
* Gardy, Sanchez, Andujar, Didi, and even Judge to an extent all slumping. Sanchez down to .193
* Love El Gary, but please, catch the fucking ball. He has to make that block on Strike 3. It's likely that Seve finishes 7 and gets the win, and they save a bullpen arm if he stops that ball. Can't keep asking guys to get 4 outs.
Talk about running into a pitch.. He was just lucky.
Need to bring the bats tomorrow
Great job Stanton
sliders.

lol...yeah
Welcome to first place!
Glad for the win tho.

Or is it just my TV.

I know most hate him, but he even makes fun of himself for his big head.
