Giants 2018 Draft Review by Pigskin Paul Guillemette of GBN

M.S. : 5/9/2018 12:04 pm
Overall, he gives Gettleman positive review, and that's in the context of Paul Guillemette not really liking Gettleman as the GM who he finds, "...a bit coarse and brash for my taste."

But he goes on to say, "But give the devil (Gettleman) his due, so to speak. As the Draft progressed last week I had to sit back and think to myself that he was nailing all of his picks."

My own personal opinion: I can listen to Gettleman's prattle for about 30 seconds before I have to turn him off. But, frankly, I don't give a shit about Gettleman's mouth/personality. Draft me a team that can win ballgames and I'll vote Gettleman for the HOF.

I love his prattle...

What does the GM's personality have to do with anything?

That's 29 more seconds than folks can listen to Reese

Also, he didn't like DG because He's brash? What? Is he looking for a life partner?
I don't need an orator
Matt in SGS : 5/9/2018 12:23 pm : link
or a standup comedian as a GM. I want someone who understands how to build a team via talent and culture and can produce a franchise that has long standing success and brings with it championships. George Young was crusty as hell in the 1980s and wouldn't suffer fools in the media who asked him stupid shit. I see Gettleman more in the George Young vein as a GM who swats away dumb shit.
I enjoy DG's brash personality after the cautious personality of Reese

glad he likes the draft and the value. the comment about DGs

personality just shows that he has a mind that drifts towards nonsense.
and for the record, I like DGs personality and demeanor

Gettleman and Pigskin Paul

had very similar draft boards apparently:

#2 Barkley: PP rank: 1
#34 Hernandez: PP rank 34
#66 Carter: PP rank: 49
#69 Hill: PP rank: 68
#108 Lauletta: PP rank: 63
#139 McIntosh: PP rank: 110
I find all the grading of drafts pretty pointless
BigBlueDownTheShore : 5/9/2018 12:39 pm : link
How many times have we heard Reese get an A on the draft, and then the majority of the class doesn't pan out?
I’m one of the lucky ones,

I rarely listen to GM or HC pressers. They reveal very little if anything to me, imo

Reese wasn't cautious with the press. If anything he was the opposite. I'd say he was awkward in dealing with the press and would stumble on his words. But if you get beyond that, especially early on in his career he would call his team a championship team in the pre-season pretty much every preseason. It turned out he was right in 2007 and they were the #1 seed in 2008. But he would continue to say the same thing, even as the team imploded in 2009. His countdown clock for the Super Bowl in 2013 was the stuff of legend when MetLife was hosting and the Giants started out 0-6.

I get what you're saying but Reese never received A's on his drafts.

Actually I think DG is a down to earth what you see is what you get type guy. Someone you could enjoy a beer with. I'll take him as my GM all day long.
I don't care for Gettleman's schtick at all
jcn56 : 5/9/2018 1:11 pm : link
Just the same way I didn't care for Reese's robotic answers. Fortunately, their ability to build a team is in no way correlated to their ability to field stupid questions from the media.

If Gettleman gets the job done I don't care how many goofy attempts at humor he makes during these PCs.
Yeah... don't see what DG's personality have to do with anything...

Jerry Reese stuff.

Say what you want but three of the best payers on the 2011 team were Jerry Reese guys.

I get it, things went sour but you guys act like this is Billy King from the Nets. Get off the guys dick. He's gone and contributed to this franchise winning a couple championships.

Thank you for this post. Like you said... I get it too... but sheesh...
DG is a breath of fresh air afterJR

As long as he produces, most on here will give him his due . If the team blows, honeymoon over.
I grew up reading, watching, and idolizing William F. Buckley.

He was neither coarse nor brash. He probably would have made a lousy GM, though. No appreciation for the left side of the lines.

I would hope so, he had been running the draft for 5 years to that point.

And yet I've been told he deserves little to no credit for either of the two most recent Super Bowls.

Well, not that often. The Giants were getting a lot of "C" grades and a lot of us wouldl say "Let's see in three years," ... and then the majority of the class didn't pan out.

The draftniks were right about Reese's drafts more often than Reese was.

Reese was given A's in the 2007 draft. I think he was given mostly B's and C +'s that year.

Basically, Reese hadn't gotten A's by most of the publications. He didn't get D's or F's either. Almost roundly in the C range consistently
30 seconds ... ?

Prattle? (wtf) - I had to look it up (not a compliment).

Hope it is true ...

"With 6 Picks in this Draft the new GM was limited in how much he could fix. But when you throw in these additions as well as a pretty solid VFA class I think the Giants are one of the biggest winners in this off-season.
Don't know how old Pigskin Paul is,but if he thinks

Gettleman is coarse & brash, how would he have reacted to Parcells?
