Obviously, Saquon Barkley isn't going to run the ball 500 times next year. Gallman is primarily a between-the-tackles runner, as is J-Stew. Having that speedy running back with receiving skills that can make plays outside and in space seems to be an open position on this roster. It's certainly not Jalen Simmons, nor is it Darkwa, who, despite the recent surgery (which was just to remove a plate) would be ready to go for training camp.
If Perkins would be healthy early, it would seem he would sort of fit the mold. While he doesn't have elite speed, he has pretty good quickness, agility, and the requisite receiving ability to be in that role. But Pumphrey would likely be a stronger option because of his speed and short-area quickness.
@JordanRaanan
The way this may work out: Perkins tore his pec. That’s generally a 6-month injury. Unlikely he gets claimed given this. Chance he ends up on reserve/NFI with #Giants and his season will be over.
I guess this makes sense if he wouldn't be back until November.
is how many of them haven't become better football players once they become Giants.
This is the thing Terps. I do not get the sense that we have been developing players...meaning they do not rise up after getting here. That's coaching, 100%, and I hope we can do better.
tore his pec. This has nothing to do with his talent. He was poor last year, but the offense was dreadful. We had no OL. And he had a good rookie season. I'd be stunned if anyone claims him off waivers.
RE: I think the bigger concern than Reese's picks Â
is how many of them haven't become better football players once they become Giants.
Definitely. Guys like Beckham who show early promise and manage to build upon -- or even simply maintain -- their early performance are relatively rare here. I'm hoping they figure that shit out.
Reese 5th round pick which means he probably should have been an UDFA. 90 yards in 41 carries last season. I don't think he'll be missed.
Funny, cause most of BBI was raving about the pick when it was made. But, derp, Reese made the pick so it must have been awful.
Remember, anything positive that happened through the Reese era was really Accorsi or Gettleman. Reese never did anything positive for the team, and all the things that went wrong on the Accorsi era wasn't really Accorsi, it was Reese. Eli's rookie year being on a 6-10 team and Roethlisberger being on a 15-1 team was Reese's fault. So was Tim Carter, Joe Montgomery, and Ron Dayne.
of things we lost over the years. Till they fail I will go with their decisions. DG, Abrams are proven, think Shurmur fits that mold as well. We will see. Go Giants.
Would have at least been good to have him through camp for a tryout. Wonder if there's something administrative here like the IR situation above, or whether the Giants weren't happy that he suffered a NFI or the timing of it.
Not great speed, but he did have a wiggle that made guys miss....he ran behind a bad line last year, and was successful....this year the line went from bad to worse....
I thought the line actually blocked better in the running game in the second half of the season, when the personnel was finally changed.....unfortunately, Perkins wasn't around....
But the biggest mistake, was was Mac just handing him the job at the start of the season.....maybe this made Perkins think he was better than he actually was, and maybe he didn't work hard in the off season to earn that spot....
Without the pec injury, he might have competed in camp....but we have 3 strong runners......whoever the 4th back is may spend more time picking splinters out of his butt, than actually playing....
is a devastating injury for a RB whose job it is to hold into the ball as guys twice his size try to rip it away. Pec and BIceps have a synergistic relationship. Perkins didnt have the body for an NFL RB unfortunately
after some flashes his rookie year, I was appalled by his play last year. I know it was a bad team, but I never saw a back get taken down so easily by arm tackles.
Gallman ran much better than him.
I wish the kid well, but not sorry he's off the team.
We draft MT over Shep, Howard over Perkins and instead of Apple we end up with Tunsil... This offense would be in a lot better shape.
1. Tunsil
2. Michael Thomas
3. Darian Thompson
4. B.J. Goodson
5. Jordan Howard
6. Jerrell Adams
Tunsil, has not done anything to this point to warrant his high draft pick.
Thompson came with the limited physical tools that’s been proven true.
Goodson would you really draft him again not sure why?
Adams what has he done that even uninjured he is still on this team?
To me the real issue still seems to be the true lack of any real advancement in our draft picks NFL ability from year to year excluding OBJ. He seems to be the one player they could not limit or tarnish his true ability. I’ve always said the draft is about providing players for the coaches to develope we are I’m not sure if terrible is the right word but we very close to that in this process.
good thing he finished his degree, he is gonna need it. Did NOT have that dog mentality that is required to make it in the NFL. Reese spent the last half decade drafting mama's boys and goodie tooshoo's instead of hard thug nasties and hog mollies. We need bigger faster stronger thumpers out there, MEN. Not WIMPS like Perkins. GTFO!
He was clearly going to be the 4th back and cutting him was the right move.
Having said that, I have trouble blaming Reese (or any GM) for missing on a 5th round choice. They miss a lot more than hit. Also remember people here, including me, loved this choice. Analysts thought he was a steal.
So now Perkins is a wimp? Can't break tackles? Gallman is better? How does one come to these conclusions when he clearly displayed he could absolutely break tackles and play hard in 2016? Are you personally offended that Perkins did not live up to your expectations during his sophmore year?
The guy was injured last year. For those too dense to make logical connections...when a player is injured, they often cannot perform at the same level as when they are healthy.
Make sense?
I think its fair to say that Perkins has plenty of ability to play in the NFL, but he needs to figure out how to stay healthy first and foremost.
I did.
As a fan, of course, I'm sorry it didn't work out.

The benefit of being a fan.... hindsight.
Easy to criticize everything when we already know how it turned out or how it has gone after a couple of years.
Highly doubtful. This isn't like the Jake Ballard situation where Ballard actually produced.
That might get Robert Martin an invite to fall camp. When you average 5 ypc behind Rutgers OL you've at least got a shot at the practice squad.
1. Tunsil
2. Michael Thomas
3. Darian Thompson
4. B.J. Goodson
5. Jordan Howard
6. Jerrell Adams
That would be interesting!

Their offense still would have sucked. THe scheme is unworkable unless you have Aaron Rodgers
Perkins
Apple
Flowers
Thompson
Wing
Depressing.
Aren't Apple and Thompson still (at least nominally) considered starters?

Orleans Darkwa maybe?
Also, who goes to IR in May with a torn pec?
Quote:
he go to IR with a non-football injury? I'm not sure about that.
Also, who goes to IR in May with a torn pec?
Disregard my post. I wasn't taking into consideration the severity of the tear.

Count me as a guy who liked the pick at the time. By game 6 last year, I had seen enough...
Can you suck a fart out my ass after I 💩?
men only this year.

I hope he heals and finds a spot on some AFC team.
Game 1 players last year in Dallas that seem to have gone with the wind...

Of course it’s about Reese! He should’ve known he’d suffer a pec injury two years ago!
Seriously... some shit you CAN make up.
Gallman ran much better than him.

I am down with Gettleman.
