Ace718 : 5/10/2018 3:29 pm
Yanks go for the sweep tonight. Walker amd Hicks ok the bench.

Lineup

Gardner CF
Judge RF
Didi SS
Stanton LF
Sanchez C
Austin 1B
Andujar DH
Torres 2B
Torreyes 3B

CC on the mound.
sweep is gravy. but it's never too soon to kick some Sawx ass

Wonder about Walker

Hopefully we won't have to use him as a PH :)

I checked their writeup of last night's game, and they refer to RF at Yankee Stadium as "the HO-scale right field." I'm always brain-sprained by Red Sox fans complaining about the right field dimensions at Yankee Stadium, considering that Fenway has the shortest RF foul pole in all of ball, and they have the novelty in left field.

ROSTER MOVE: 1B Greg Bird and OF Billy McKinney added on MLB rehab assignments. C Francisco Diaz placed on the 7-Day DL. C Kellin Deglan added from Double-A Trenton. #Tarpons #Yankees

Seems like Bird is only a couple of weeks away. I like Austin but he is no Bird. We need the lefty power in this lineup.

I guess we can blame the RF dimensions for Judge blasting one over the centerfield wall? Or Gardner blistering a line drive over Betts’ head because he was inexplicably playing basically on the infield?

Boston and all of their fans are assclowns.

Gardner isn't hitting a lefty but maybe the guy will be knocked out
xman : 5/10/2018 4:56 pm : link
early. Hicks can't hit that well righty so you are damned either way. Walker now a days seems prosperous exclusively from the left side. Need more flexibility and would have it if Frazier, Drury and or Bird were here. Though thats being a bit overly optimistic.

So its Torreyes over Romine in the end if you juggled differently

even Jerry Remy is questioning some of the calls. Bad combination of pitcher that lives on the bottom of the strike zone with an ump that is giving the low and inside pitch.

He swung at two balls, well before he got “umped”. That’s all on him.

So, if I’m understanding you right, if a batter swings at balls, it gives the ump authority to call shit ass strikes because, well, he swung at balls anyways! That’s exactly the problem with umpiring nowadays. No accountability. How about letting the players decide games? If Austin swings at 3 bad pitches, it’s on him. If he only swings at 2, he still gets one more. Those are the rules. It’s about time the umps do their freaking jobs. The strike zone this season has been embarrassing
I think that everyone is right. Austin (and others) have been
yatqb : 5/10/2018 9:03 pm : link
swinging at a bunch of inside sliders, and the ump is calling a lot of low and low and away pitches strikes.
Technology has outed the umps to a point
xman : 5/10/2018 9:12 pm : link
replay erases incorrect calls made right in front of the umps eyes. Eventually technology will take over the strike zone calls. The strike zone with the superimposed box shows balls and strikes . In fairness to the umps these pitches are firing 99 mph which must be hard to see.
RE: RE: RE: RE: I am sorry, but that is an AAAA at bat
LarmerTJR : 5/10/2018 9:27 pm : link
Sorry

If the ump is bad, it doesn’t absolve you from swinging at bad pitches. The calls have sucked. But so did that at bats. When the Uno is this bad, you can’t help either.

Looks like Judge had just missed it before the nitwit hit his glove
Austin better show a lot more than he has so far tonight

Betances throws a good game or two and fans believe he is back
xman : 5/10/2018 10:54 pm : link
When he was money giving up home runs were a rare occurrence. Every 15 or 20 innings. Now every 3 or 4 innings. He is hittable and erratic. He is my guy for Mr Mop up
Like how Andujar went to right last two times
xman : 5/10/2018 10:56 pm : link
maybe we got a chance
Andujar has got to learn to take a pitch

Not much of a choice with the limited pen.
I thought mound visits are limited now?

Can't complain (actually I can, but I'll try not to),
shockeyisthebest8056 : 5/10/2018 11:30 pm : link
but that loss was annoying. We need Kahnle and Warren back. Having Betances pitch a second inning after 7th inning warning and a LONG half-inning is unfair. Then he gave up a HR that's an out everywhere else.

Heckuva 13 game stretch.

2-1 Angels
3-1 Astros
3-0 Indians
2-1 Red Sux
Oops... I meant 7th inning stretch

Good series
dune69 : 5/10/2018 11:31 pm : link
Hopefully our bats will wake up a bit for those scuffling. We need to get Kahnle and Warren back. Overall, we can't ask for much better so far.
Another great series win against a top team.
Dave in Hoboken : 5/10/2018 11:34 pm : link
Will be huge to get Kahnle and Warren back. (and Bird)
Gotta be happy
mattyblue : 5/10/2018 11:48 pm : link
with where the Yankees are, what a run they have been on!! If Bird ever comes back it will be a boost to a stacked team.

Even though Gardner was the hero last night, you still have to worry about him long term. Hopefully Frazier can tear it up. Frazier was the #2 prospect behind Gleyber, gotta believe he can be a good one.

I just don’t want to see the Yankees make a crap deal for a pitching rental.
Should have waited

To the 8th. Worked last 2 nights.
missed this one - was out tonight.
Del Shofner : 5/11/2018 12:15 am : link
Bummer, but can't win them all. It was a great 18 game stretch and bodes well. Need everyone healthy though - Kahnle, Warren, Bird, et al.
Zonked early, too many late nights lately, but actually woke up
mfsd : 5/11/2018 5:14 am : link
expecting to see the Yanks had come back to win. Sounds like a good late game battle, couldn’t finish it last night.

As we’ve all talked about, great run through basically 3 weeks of the AL’s best...but would be nice to see the bats really get hot. Bullpen could use a blowout or two to get a little breather from all these high leverage playoff type games

Made 'em sweat at leats. Would have been nice to sweep, but

I'll take 2 of 3 all season.
* I didn't think Betances pitched poorly. It was a good pitch in on the hands that Matrinez musceld into a Yankee Stadium cheapie. Sometimes a short porch goes against you. Ask Mike Torrez.
* Austin's at bat with the bases loaded was Little League stupid. Guy can't throw a strike (without the umpire helping that is. More on that later.) and he goes up hacking at garbage int he dirt. Guys who said Austin we be on the bubble ffew weeks back were right. Walker is hitting, he's a swtich hitter and a more intelligent hitter, and now he's taking grounders at 3rd in practice. Perfect bench player. Austin doesn't have that versatility.
* Love seeing Judge hitting singles and doubles again. And the kids Torres and Andujar continue to impress.
* Sorry to repeat from yesterday, but I don't like Torryes at 3rd. Arm is too weak and it cost them yesterday.
2 out of 3 is nice
NYerInMA : 5/11/2018 8:39 am : link
But I really wanted a sweep. Oh well, gotta keep things rolling against Oakland.
the home plate umpire was a joke last night. It took 6 balls for
Victor in CT : 5/11/2018 8:59 am : link
Sanchez to walk in one at bat. And it seemed 1 sided to me. CC wasn't getting any help, but Rodriguez sure was.

on a side note, I hate that fucking box on the YES network broadcasts. Let me watch the game unobstructed please.

True. Especially disappointing after another of those amazing late rallies to tie things up.
Betances’ stuff was fine last night
bigbluehoya : 5/11/2018 9:19 am : link
He got beat on a Yankee Stadium pop-up homer. Yanks will benefit from that plenty. This time they were on the wrong end.

On to Oakland.

exactly. he pitched well and Martinez was able to fight off a good pitch. In Boston it was an out
Austin's

at bat was very frustrating. The pitcher has been wild and you have a 2-0 count on you with the bases loaded and you swing at ball 3. I was yelling at the TV to take a strike.
