even Jerry Remy is questioning some of the calls. Bad combination of pitcher that lives on the bottom of the strike zone with an ump that is giving the low and inside pitch.
He swung at two balls, well before he got “umped”. That’s all on him.
And he took a ball that was called a strike, but, that’s on Austin. The at bat sucked.

For Austin. Cannot swing at balls like that with the bases loaded.
Doesn't change the fact that he was rung up on a pitch clearly out of the zone.
So, if I’m understanding you right, if a batter swings at balls, it gives the ump authority to call shit ass strikes because, well, he swung at balls anyways! That’s exactly the problem with umpiring nowadays. No accountability. How about letting the players decide games? If Austin swings at 3 bad pitches, it’s on him. If he only swings at 2, he still gets one more. Those are the rules. It’s about time the umps do their freaking jobs. The strike zone this season has been embarrassing
I think that everyone is right. Austin (and others) have been Â
replay erases incorrect calls made right in front of the umps eyes. Eventually technology will take over the strike zone calls. The strike zone with the superimposed box shows balls and strikes . In fairness to the umps these pitches are firing 99 mph which must be hard to see.
RE: RE: RE: RE: I am sorry, but that is an AAAA at bat Â
If the ump is bad, it doesn’t absolve you from swinging at bad pitches. The calls have sucked. But so did that at bats. When the Uno is this bad, you can’t help either.

I agree Larmer. I think Austin was a flash in the pan. Nice power, but just not a major league batter.
It was def borderline, but it was not a horrendous call.
Time for Boone to pop his cherry and get in this guy’s face until he gets run
Austin should get a foot up his butt for swinging at ball 3 and 4 before the blown strike out call.

You are allowed 3 strikes. Who knows what happens if he gets that third strike?

Is he really washed? I thought he was hurt last year. He is hitting .300

Maybe he's not our answer, but Austin will find a home somewhere in the league if he stays healthy ..
He's worked hard for this power , I'll give it to him
Red Sox have bleeders and seeing eye singles, dropped balls...Yanks cant touch Rodriguez.
except I was in the wrong thread.
Red Sox must wish they could play 6 inning games.
He's a one inning guy now. That's two straight outings where he was lights out in the first inning and not the second.
Need Warren and Kahnle back in the worst way
