NFT: Dom Smith getting called up; Harvey speaks

CMicks3110 : 5/11/2018 7:18 am
Smith getting called up for 3 game series against phils as bruce goes on paternity leave.

Harvey says he no longer wants to talk about Mets in first interview with Reds reporter - is it just me or is he the only recent player to not at least thank the fans and organization for their support? Totally classless. We drafted him, made him a star, it's sad injuries derailed him, but show some goddam aappreciation to the fans at least.
Harvey is either an idiot
Oscar : 5/11/2018 7:23 am : link
Or gets bad advice, or both. Not a very sympathetic character.
"we" didnt draft anyone...
Rory : 5/11/2018 8:28 am : link
"we" are fans and he owes us squat. Yes maybe we bought some jerseys and paid money to see him start but honestly "we" did that because he was a Met.

I do agree he does owe the NY Mets trainers, coaches, management and players a thank you because they were the ones who did everything they could to support him.
Not to change the subject
cjd2404 : 5/11/2018 8:59 am : link
But why is Vargas getting a free pass on his crappy outings? Why haven't they sent him down to "Work on his stuff" or move him to the bullpen? He is more than frustrating to watch
I try to have sympathy for Harvey
Dr. D : 5/11/2018 9:01 am : link
I think not enough people are talking about the thoracic outlet syndrome. I don't know if any pitcher has totally come back from that.

If I had to guess, Harvey was a spoiled privileged CT kid and he seems to act like such an unlikable arrogant prick, it's hard to feel sorry for him.

Guys like Bruce and Vargas that Sandy signed will get special treatment. Performance doesn't matter. Gsellmen will be buried in the pen all year because he made a sarcastic comment about Sandy in frustration last year.
Sandy
TyreeHelmet : 5/11/2018 10:02 am : link
I still cant believe he got an extension. He has provided zero proof as Mets GM that he is a good exec.

arcarsenal : 5/11/2018 10:09 am : link
I defended him for a long time, but I'm glad he's gone and I hope he gets lit up this weekend.

He continues to take shots at the Mets about him being a "starting pitcher".. the guy doesn't get it.

You fucking SUCKED as a starter this year. And last year. This dude thinks he's just supposed to be handed a spot regardless of performance.

We'll see how long those "smiles" last in Ohio.
When can we dump Vargas
spike : 5/11/2018 10:46 am : link
And start Lugo instead?

Harvey is a weird man
moespree : 5/11/2018 11:05 am : link
It really is as if this guy thinks he is still throwing 95 and intimidating people on the mound and doesn't get why the Mets would have the audacity to put him in the bullpen. I don't know what people are whispering in his ear but this guy is just going to collapse into nothing when he sucks in Cincinnati too.
Harvey is a dooshbag. He's the kind of guy you tolerate when
Victor in CT : 5/11/2018 11:47 am : link
he's great, dump when he's not. That he has another big asshole like Boras chirping in his ear isn't helping him.
RE: Harvey is either an idiot
fanofthejets : 5/11/2018 11:52 am : link
Harvey is just a jerk. I'm sure he harbors some kind of vendetta against the Mets but its for no good reason. They gave him every chance, they put up with his childish wannabee celebrity BS. They tried to help him after he had a pathetic nervous breakdown because some Patriots receiver stole his girlfriend (was it edelman or amendola? does anybody even remember at this point?)

His career is pretty much over at this point. It happens. He's a pitcher and they're fragile.
I would not be surprised
Rory : 5/11/2018 11:59 am : link
to hear he suffers from some type of drug addiction brought on by coping with all the stress and media play. He looks so much smaller then in his 2015 season.

arcarsenal : 5/11/2018 12:02 pm : link
Well, there's been plenty of smoke about him enjoying some nose candy over the years - I'm sure he does that.
Good news for the Mets
dep026 : 5/11/2018 12:11 pm : link
is that they are at Philly this weekend and they have owned the Phillies there.

But Mets get a first hand look at the real MVP of the NL so far. Odubel Herrera!!!!
What did Harvey
Metnut : 5/11/2018 12:12 pm : link
says that was so bad? His comments seemed fine to me.

I'm still rooting for Harvey to turn it around, so long as he's not facing the Mets. It's hard to me to turn and stop against players that I've followed/rooted for since they were drafted. I'm sure I'll get over it with him eventually, but this guy could've easily sat out the 2015 playoffs (taking a page from Strasburg) but instead came out and tried to win a title for us, possibly costing himself tens of millions of dollars in the process.

My problem with Matt is that he absolutely refused to acknowledge that ANYTHING was on him. He'd get blown up and then blow off media and refuse to answer questions. He'd insist he was a starting pitcher even though he was getting bombed constantly. He handled the bullpen thing badly. Refused assignment to go and work on some stuff.

He just thinks he's something he isn't and it's a shame because I really don't think he's going to get anywhere if he won't admit that he has to reinvent himself a bit.

Yea, you're not wrong with anything you said.

Can't believe he's already almost 30. Time fucking flies.

Tell me about it...

His debut was what, almost 6 years ago already?

Crazy.

Cinci is perfect for him to bomb and be patient with his failures, with little fanfare

I'm not a big fan of Harvey and agree he should have shown more class and at least minimally thanked the organization and it's fans. But I don't fault him in the least for not accepting a demotion to the minors. He would have lost all control of his career and may have had to contractually had to stay down for a long time had he accepted it. The Mets didn't have much choice and I am guessing they knew he would never say yes and forced the issue knowing this. But obviously as far as what was best for his career it was to reject the minors and move on with a fresh start elsewhere. There is plenty to fault Harvey about but it's hard to fault the guy for that.
Fucking Neris

Worst pitcher on the roster.

Kapler needs to demote this bum immediately.

Have to disagree with you here. The Mets didnít force the issue, Harvey did. Harvey was not performing at a pro level and needed to fix things in order to improve. Canít do that at the major league level. Donít like having to go to the minors? Too bad then. Be a better pitcher. Harvey didnít want to have to do the work to improve because he still believes heís the Dark Knight. Heís one of the most entitled athletes Iíve ever seen. Harvey forced all of this.
Barely escapes a Conforto HR, throws him the same pitch

I think you misunderstood my point. I said the Mets didn't have much choice and I agree with their decision. My point is I bet they fully expected him to refuse and knowingly "forced" the issue figuring it would likely result in Harvey moving on.
