Should've kept McAdoo. Then he wouldn't even have to adjust to a new formation!

It'll be interesting to see if they keep a traditional FB or use Engram/Ellison in that role and to see how quickly Barkley adjust to having a lead blocker.

It's remarkable how frequently this (or some variation of it) gets repeated. The Giants used several formations under McAdoo. It was a personnel group (11 personnel) that there was an extremely high usage frequency for.

Barkley was in a more pro-style offense as a freshman, so it's not like the concept will be foreign to him.

But if you want some actual stats:

2017
Shotgun: 460 passing atts
Under Center: 110 passing atts
Darkwa Shotgun: 37 atts
Darkwa Under Center: 134 atts
Gallman Shotgun: 36 atts
Gallman Under Center: 75 atts
Vereen Shotgun: 37 atts
Vereen Under Center: 36 atts
Perkins Shotgun: 9 atts
Perkins Under Center: 26 atts
Total: 30.5% atts from shotgun (119 atts shotgun; 271 under center)

2016
Shotgun: 526 passing atts
Under Center: 73 passing atts
Darkwa Shotgun: 16 atts
Darkwa Under Center: 14 atts
Jennings Shotgun: 84 atts
Jennings Under Center: 96 atts
Vereen Shotgun: 20 atts
Vereen Under Center: 13 atts
Perkins Shotgun: 48 atts
Perkins Under Center: 64 atts
Total: 47.3% atts from shotgun (168 atts shotgun; 187 under center)

84% of Eli's passes the last 2 seasons have been from shotgun.

So yes, the Giants ran it quite a bit from shotgun under McAdoo, especially in 2016. For a quick comparison, the Pats ran it out of shotgun just 56 times in 2017 or 13.3% of their total runs (randomly picked the Pats).

I got that. I'm not sure whether you meant Penn St. or the Giants. I ask because I have seen people incorrectly use RPO for other things that aren't RPOs. I am not criticizing. I just wanted clarification.

Plus, why do you hate RPOs? The Eagles rode that shit to a Super Bowl.

After about 10 minutes working after practice, Saquon Barkley and QB John O'Korn were the last two to jog off the field. As they approached the steps to the building, Saquon slowed down and let O'Korn get a few paces ahead of him. Saquon was literally the last one off the field.

1. Saquon Barkley looks the part. Watching the way he cuts, spins, runs and catches the ball is impressive. #Giants #RookieMinicamp

2. Kyle Lauletta isn't especially imposing (size + build). He also doesn't have a strong arm. More like a Drew Brees type with the way he throws and operates. (Note: Not saying he's Drew Brees) #Giants #RookieMinicamp

3. It was very windy out. Made for a difficulty day of throwing. Punters Jacob DeMaio and Taylor Morton were booming the ball with the wind. #Giants #RookieMinicamp

4. Will Hernandez moves pretty well for a 327-pound guard. He doesn't look huge though because as 6-2 he's on the short side for an OL. #Giants #RookieMinicamp

5. Undrafted free agent safety Sean Chandler (Temple) and cornerback Aaron Davis (Georgia) look like they can play a little bit. #Giants #RookieMinicamp

The kind of hard-hitting and new information you can expect on the Giants beat.

DT R.J. Mcintosh, the fifth-round pick from Miami, has what the Giants are calling a "mild medical condition'' and did not practice today. He should be able to resume activities soon.

"Six-four punter Jacob DeMaio from Weber State is the tallest punter I have ever seen here with the Giants."

I guess Schmeelk is too young to have seen Dave Jennings, who was 6'4".

Saquon Barkley on the biggest difference from #PennState and the #Giants: Its the playbook. But, I learn things like this really quick. In college, we ran out of the shotgun all the time, here we run out of the I, but its similar.

Which I hated. Fuck the RPO

Huh?

I hate the run pass option

Penn State's RPO, which they used often. It was horrible. First off, Penn State's O-Line couldn't block a grandma and to have that much time elapse while McSorley decides to keep it or not meant that there was at least defensive player in the backfield every single snap. Second, whenever McSorley did decide to give the ball to Saquon, Saquon didn't have a ton of room to run.

And yes, the Eagles did use the RPO effectively, but I think we would all benefit from under center, Power-I football. Much easier on the eyes (and the players) and it would allow Saquon to know in advance that he's going to run with it and plan and foresee accordingly.
