New NYG O will combine best of Vikes, Shula and last years

Big_Blue_in_the_Bronx : 5/12/2018 8:39 am
According to Shurmur. As much of a disaster as last years O was there were a few plays here and there that we executed well. Combine that with plays from the Vikes that Shurmur believes will translate well to our personnel and then some of the best Shula stuff, the O design looks to be a collaborative effort to assemble plays that complement and fit our players strengths the best.

Dalvin Cook was extremely productive in the Shurmur offense before he went down and 2 good but not necessarily great receivers in Diggs and Thielen had career or near career years. A 3/5th overhauled OL gelled and performed well. As opposed to Mac, I trust he will be able to put together a great playbook for this offense.

less aggressive after assuming a HC role. Never understood that. Here’s hoping Shurmur is different. I love his O playcalling

had a lot of success with 2 TE formations in CAR.

Yeah mitt...very likely a whole lot more 12 personnel formations. A real running game, improved OL, 2 top WRs then a drop off, a good blocking TE and an excellent receiving TE, it makes great sense. Barkley can come out of the Backfield and line up in the slot or even potentially out wide , same with Engram. ALot we can do from that set.
The first goal of opposing defense will be to stop the run.

They did not have any respect for the Giants running game last year. Its a whole new game!

They may have to play us more straight up which will be huge for a healthy OBJ.
And last years....Eli’s Eagles game performance

Under the tutelage of Shurmur/Shula and with the hands of Barkman ...Ill lean yes
Shula..

didn't implement a lot of screen passes in Carolina.

The wheel route was effective and sending McCaffery out last year as a mismatch, but his system didn't utilize the traditional screen much at all.

Don't know what Shurmur did in Minny.

Thanks for the insight FMIC. Not sure how screen heavy Minny's O was either. But we know NYG had Barkley do alot of receiving drills over the Mini Camp and Shurmur has said he wants his backs catching the ball out of the backfield. So we should expect Barkley to do alot of receiving whether via screen plays or some other pass pattern.
My recollection of watching Cook/McKinnon
YAJ2112 : 5/14/2018 11:25 am : link
was that there wasn't a ton of screens in their receptions, though they did utilize them occasionally.

Obsessing about outside runs and how to make those more instant; I wonder if the QB under center pitch runs have a place in the playbook.

In that it's probably a quicker transaction than shotgun, quicker than actual hand offs in that QB doesn't need to get back to RB.

And. Whereas there is no true play action out of it, one can do the not pitch version, or not pitch option, counter runs, what have you.

All just musing on that - outside power runs might develop a tad more slowly.
Also direct to rb snap

Outside zone runs.

Even quicker.
To see how Shurmur is going to set up stuff

For Barkley and OBJ and take advantage of what the D gives us will be extremely refreshing after the Mac Offense.

I think we will see an entirely different team from the get go.
On D as well
