I can't find comfirmation anywhere. I will delete after someone links me, can't sleep without having confirmation that it was merely a clean break. I tried searching on here and Google. I'm praying to God there wasn't ligament damage and it just wasn't mentioned. That damn cheap shot in preseason by the no-name nobody Browns DB.
But I've never heard of those ligaments tearing.
Dr. Chao thinks he will be 100%.

Phew. Thank you. I was afraid the OP would never get to sleep
Point is, rehabbed properly, this shouldn't be an injury that changes him from what he was. His ankle might be cranky from time to time, but he'll certainly be able play on it and through it if need be.
And the Giants would be crazy to extend him without knowing for sure......I wouldn't extend him until at least mid season, to see what kind of shape that ankle is actually in....

But I can't find proof. Here's to hoping!
If you're talking about the high ankle sprain he suffered in preseason, a "sprain" is, by definition, ligament "damage." Basically, the difference between a "strain," a "sprain" and a "tear" is degree. A ligament is a bundle of fibers. If a few fibers break, it's a strain. If more break, it's a sprain. If enough break, it's a tear.
But I've never heard of those ligaments tearing.
A strain involves contractile tissue (muscle/tendon) and a sprain involves non-contractile tissue ( ligaments). You are correct bthough they both essentially varying degrees of a tear.

Wonder if he will start doing so now.
He obviously had ligament involvement originally before the fracture occurred.
So yes, it’s both.
Have faith though. He worked hard. We’ll find out if he is one time injury guy or a glass man soon enough. Hence why waiting on a contract is the only smart option.
I really don't think anyone should be losing sleep over this.
Why is he being compared to players who....
Had compartment syndrome
Had their patellar tendon explode
Blew fingers off with fireworks
???
Odell Beckham broke his ankle.
I agree with most of you, if he rehabs and heals well, this injury is no biggie. We are lucky and OBJ should be paid after proving himself in the first half of this seadon, pay him and then win a Superbowl. Floyd Mayweather won over 650 million in two boxing matches, OBJ deserves 100 million to play 5 years for us as one of the best WRs ever.
He broke his toe his rookie year.
He was suffering from compartment syndrome all the way back in 2010. Had a high ankle sprain. Strained hamstring.
In 2012, against TB, he got his foot stepped on, hurt his knee again. Had 10 catches for 199 yards that day and just was never the same after it.
Nicks was the type of guy who just played and didn't complain or make it evident he was hurt. He was a tough dude. But those injuries ultimately cut his career short. So, he's a cautionary tale when it comes to how quickly a player can go from top notch to nothing. But as it stands now, Beckham's injuries are very minor in comparison and he should make a full recovery.
He had compartment syndrome and has permanent nerve damage. As in - it won't ever completely heal and he has loss of feeling in his calf area.
Neither he nor Cruz ever recovered from their major injuries, and neither had things "trckle down to their foot". Cruz ended up with calf injuries from over-compensating for the injured knee and probably returned too quickly, like Steve Smith.
We're gunshy and rightfully so.
David Wilson.
Victor Cruz.
Terrell Thomas.
Steve Smith.
Hakeem Nicks.
I can list many, many more excellent Giant players whose careers were cut down by injury. Apples and Oranges, I know - but still, the gut-drop and worry is the same. Here we go again?
'Relatively common' to me is not the sort of initial injury Odell took last preseason and then SNAPPED during the season. For a player who's game is built on insane cuts?
I hope you're all correct, but to me a player like Odell - like Victor Cruz is not the same player if he loses a step.
Beckham's ankle injury was a major injury but one that has an excellent prognosis for a full recovery.

I know all of those injuries were more severe, that Beckham SHOULD be able to come back fully.
Just pointing out given the Giants horrific injury history of the last half decade or so, panic is about the only response I'd expect.
