I'm starting my new job next week, which will require me to be up at 430am. I'm not much of a coffee guy, never have been. The few times where I had coffee I was just fine with it black and caffeinated.
Talking with some coworkers they told me about investing in a Kuerig. Too pricy. Doesn't really fit my needs. Someone mentioned to me about a French press. Are these things handy and convenient?
grind the beans (20 seconds)
pour ground beans into french press
pour water in
wait 4 minutes
push down and pour
I have a milk steamer also...when Im feelin fancy I add that and it's kinda like a latte
I use an electric kettle which boils the water in five mins. While its boiling, I use an electric grinder to make a coarse grind, then pour the water in. Set a timer for 4 mins and depress the plunger after it goes off. Its important that you do it right at 4 otherwise the taste will get more and more bitter. I use an 8 cup press and 4 level scoops of beans in the grinder. Its the only way I drink coffee.

That drink you are referring to is called a Cafe Au Lait Chris you plebeian... LOL
Aeropress
once you pour in the boiling water, let it sit for 2 minutes before stirring. let sit another 2 minutes before you "press"
press slowly so nothing goes thru the mesh
Especially with Tres Guatemala beans from these guys:

French press is great but time consuming. You could also buy a quality drip machine and spend your money on high quality beans. If you are up early you can program them to grind and then brew at a desired time.
Make sure you buy quality coffee, Mayorga or Zeke’s here in MD. I always grind just before I brew. You’ll love coffee after you use this.

Dharkan FTW!
Anyways, the NUMBER 1 thing to do to get good coffee is to grind the beans yourself before brewing. Start off with a cheap electric grinder. If you like it, you can invest $100-200 into a burr grinder to get more options.
Using a French press, a pour over, artisanl coffee, etc etc all can help too but grinding the beans is most important. Also, get a vac seal canister and keep your beans in there until you grind them instead of the bag.
I go back and forth. Sometimes I do French press, sometimes pour over, sometimes I just do a drip. They're all good.
If you want simple and quick get a chemex.
Great deal, great ratings on Amazon. You don't have to use pre-packaged Keurig, buy a reusable K-Cup and use whatever coffee you like.
Not complete until you buy this!
Deathwish Coffee
Strong AND Smooth! Once you try it, you won't go back. Blows Starbucks away!
Anyway yes, French press is the shit and my favorite way to have coffee. Haven’t ever had aero press however. Get decent beans, grind them fresh in the morning before brewing and that’s the way to go.

I grew up 10 minutes from Round Lake. Yeesh. In the 70s that body of water was close to a biohazard.
I just don't have much time anymore to roast and brew my coffee with a Chemex or French press. I like to think myself as a connoisseur. but I don't have the time. Now days, I usually get my whole beans from Trader Joe's or Whole Foods and grind them myself. I do recommend the OXO Barista Brain. It makes a really good cup, but still doesn't compare to a Chemex.
I would just get a drip coffee maker, you can have it ready to go before you go to bed, and just start it when you get up. Or get one with a timer that starts on its own.
Also, when I pour coffee from the press into a cup, I pour it from a distance to aerate the coffee. I feel this extra step makes the coffee less bitter.
French press is great. I have one that I use on the weekends and gives nice pure taste, but I use Mr. Coffee machine more because it is more convenient. No boiling water separately. They are cheap and get the job done. $30 bucks gets you the machine with a timer setting so you can set it go start your coffee even before you wake up.
He also boils down flavorless la croix and uses that as his water. It has something to do with the mineral retention in the water. Swears by it.
I just use k cups. I’m not a stickler, just want to get up and go.

Chemex makes great coffee.
Boiling down sparkling water is whack.
