Eh. He's a solid twitter follow and good source of Mets information. He's a young guy, so sometimes I feel like he tweets opinion stuff that is more like a typical BBI post rather than what you'd expect from a professional writer, but it's not really a big deal IMO.
Tebow deserves credit for what's he doing. It's pretty remarkable, but he's unplayable in meaningful MLB games if he can't lower that K rate. Still, in some ways, you have to evaluate him similarly to much younger guys since he's seen so many less professional ABs for someone his age (or even 5 years younger). If Tebow is really serious about trying to be an MLB player, I think 2019 will be the real test to see whether he can start making contact. He's already shown he has legit power.
Happy to see Peterson not getting hit hard (and I like the pick/player) but would like to see some more Ks of single A hitters.
Anyone else have a feeling that Alonso is much closer to a big league promotion than most people think?
Base hits were scarce in this game....only 2 on each side. Vasquez had one of them, but he stung the ball in all 3 atbats and he damn near took Baumann's head off with a rope. Sanchez had the other hit, but that was all the 'Flies could muster. The Shorebird's CF covered a lot of ground, he robbed Alfonzo of at least a 2B in the 3rd inning.
The 2 kids in the middle infield are smooth. Tiberi made a nice play behind 2B and later started 4-6-3 DP to end the 6th.
The Shorebirds have a Ripken on the roster -- Ryan Ripken is Cal's grandson. I'm sure the O's will give him a long look.
The mock currently has us taking Travis Swaggerty.
6. N.Y. Mets – Travis Swaggerty, CF, South Alabama
The Mets are almost exclusively on college prospects here, with Kelenic and Liberatore the two preps under consideration. This is the first pick at which Florida 3B Jonathan India is in play. Bart was a target about a month ago, and Ole Miss lefty Ryan Rolison was under consideration here until he gave up 11 runs at South Carolina two weeks ago. The Mets have had heat in to see Swaggerty recently and he makes the most sense here. Teams believe the Mets are looking at upside prep prospects for their second pick, with heat in to see Meadows and New York prep righty Lenny Torres recently.
Gimenez keeps playing well
Mize is likely going 1.1 so you can forget him at 6.
Madrigal, nobody questions the bat in terms of hitting for average and he can be a gold glove 2B, but will he hit for enough power?
Mclanahan was a Mets draftee out of HS, but he has already had one Tommy John and at 6'2" 188 does not exactly have the frame that is conducive to throwing high 90's 180-200 innings per year year in and year out. His strikeout numbers were up this year, but so were his walks.
Like Dan, I would hurl if Rolison is the pick. The player that intrigues me is Florida IF Jonathan India. He always had the tools, but has finally put them together. In a draft where the talent is quite flat, I think we can get a really good player in India who will cost less and allow us more flexibility with future picks.
Strawberry was a no brainer, consensus #1 pick. Other than that, it’s Wright and Dykstra
I’m probably forgetting someone, but really in their entire
History how many
Top position players have they drafted?
Reyes and Fonzi were IFA's, where they've done better, but not draft picks.
Maybe Daniel Murphy?
3 for 5 2 HR 3 RBI

But yes, they suck at drafting and developing position players.

Maybe Daniel Murphy?
True, but it’s all about their eye for talent that went through their minors system...so I kind of view it the same.
I thought about Murphy as well.
God they suck.
LOL, I didn't want to interrupt you.
I cant believe Sandy pulled that off coming up on a DFA. Yeah the guy has been injured but we were literally releasing Harvey anyway and got a former all-star catcher who's still relatively young. Even if Plaw still ends up the starter, Devin is an infinitely better backup than Jose Suckaton.
Of course, when I was a kid, I thought Butch Huskey was going to be a player, too.
