Knicks GM Scott Perry reiterates to @alanhahn that the club is looking to draft the best player available, regardless of position. “We’ve got to get the highest level of talent that we can get on our roster and we’ll figure out all of the positions once they get in there.”
(Bamba reportedly has early helium as high as 4, but he's my hope at 9 given the realistic names being thrown around... Bridges, Sexton etc)
Agreed. And not taking a swipe at anyone on BBI but I've seen WAY too much focus on taking a 3 because we could use one. Take the best player... ESPECIALLY when KP (from the coaches own mouth) will float around 3-4-5 and Frank is a 1/2.
Even if you get 3 and you view bagley is the 3rd best player, you can make it work playing both him and kp

You draft the highest rated guy on your board and worry about fit later...

I'm always an advocate for BPA, I just think based on how mocks are shaking out a 3 will be BPA. If it's Sexton, it's Sexton. I just think there's something to be said for bigs that can't survive in small ball. And KP will be the 5 in small ball lineups. That's my hesitation against getting a 5, I think they need to be an absolute star to return value on the pick.
I mean look at Jokic, arguably a top 3 or 4 center in the league but the questions still remain if you can build a contender defensively with him playing 40 minutes a game. Same sort of question for KAT too tbh. Or look at Whiteside, who is a rim protector but gets killed in transition and can be a liability on stretches on offense when he isn't grabbing ever board in sight.
As for that pertaining to this draft:
Ayton- I think Ayton has that superstar level that covers his warts. Athletically he can keep up with 4s even if he can;t be a reliable rim protector. And offensively he has both range and can attack the basket, so I'm fine with Ayton.
JJJ- He fits the prototypical mold of a modern 5. Stretches the floor, blocks shots, can get up and down the floor in transition, can switch. He is my top big in this draft.
Bamba- Can also stretch the floor potentially, get down in transition, rim protect and switch. I'd be fine with him, I just think JJJ's shot is more reliable and is a much better athlete (both explosiveness and strength) which gives him a much higher ceiling. But fine with Bamba.
Bagley- No doubt a fun player to watch and would be hard to root against him, but I think there are questions on both sides of the ball. Despite accomplishing more I think he has a lot to overcome to prove he can be a 35 mpg player. He was atrocious defensively, isn't a rim protector and his offensive game is predominated on jumping over unathletic or skinny college players for shots. He has a budding jump shot but not yet reliable. Can't protect the rim. Hard seeing him bust completely, but a lot of his game reminds me of Brandan Wright. I don't think he'll be that bad but I can also easily see him being a role player that gets booted once teams go small. Wouldn't hate the pick but lots of issues worry me.
Carter- I like Carter more than Bagley, but can also see him being relegated to a ~25 mpg role. He is 260 pounds right now, he won't be in the NBA. Gives me some hope that there's some hidden athleticism there since he moves really well for how big he is already. But he has a more fundamental offensive game than Bagley (better post moves, better passer, better shot) and can give you a little rim protection offensively.
So we’re the buffalo bills of nba lottery hopefuls....
Yeah answered my own question. He was a rookie that year.
Hardaway I think is the only one
But on the other hand Woodson is a veteran coach and knows fizdale si maybe it will work

Lottery Day!

Yup! But this is our year!
Jon probably right
We'll see the Lakers pick end up at 2 and the Celtics taking Ayton or Doncic.
there's maybe 5-6 guys left in the league from that team.
Cavs are getting it because league thinks lebron is leaving

trivia question: Is there anyone still on the Knicks that Mike Woodson coached? Almost certainly not I would think? Maybe Tim Hardaway in his first stint?

Felton, melo, Chandler, jr, tim, shump...anyone else?
It won't be woodson's offense...
Everyone switches in the nba now, with teams going smaller and smaller everyone switches
They had the 3rd best offense in the league playing Woodson's system (finished 11th his only other full season) and most teams switch these days. Other than that, good post!
If having Woodson become the defensive coach means that Rambis is gone, then it is addition by subtraction no matter how you look at it.
he's an ok coach but nothing special. He was thoroughly out-coached in the Pacers series. Not the main reason they lost, but it didn't help.

was the only coach to get Melo play the 4 full time and win a playoff series. Im not sure why he gets such a bad rap, other than that he looks clueless all the time.

Chandler played like a little bitch that series then called out the team
Teams were tanking. We weren't I believe, we just stunk. We would be at #6 if we didn't play important people, in games critical for draft position, like the others (chicago, dallas, etc) did.
Technically 12, but that would be really tough to pull off. 9 is by far the most likely outcome, but maybe 10.
11 but you would need 2 of the teams seeded 10 through 14 to jump into top 3
#1 - 1.7%
#2 - 2.0%
#3 - 2.4%
#9 - 81.3%
#10 - 8.9%
#11 - 0.2%
#12 - >0.0%
Yeah I had to do a double take on that one also. She must have married into it.
And this show. Heinous. The NBA should be embarassed.
