Before anyone gets mad (and it would piss me off) - this is very much tongue-in-cheek.
Lorenzo Carter: 6'5" 250 lbs.
Lawrence Taylor: 6'3" 240 lbs.
One of the underscores of rookie mini-camp was Carter being unexpectedly explosive off the snap. Sure, it could be meaningless, but it could be the beginning of Carter wow'ing observers. Isn't it nice to not be able to dismiss the possibility we're sitting on a stud pass rushing OLB? What ultimately makes or breaks a 34 is how good the OLBs are.
There was this little nugget from his college teammate Aaron Davis:
"Man, that guy - he looks like he's LeBron on the football field," Davis recalled with a laugh Saturday, adding: "I mean, as soon as he walks through the door, you're like, 'This guy.' You don't see too many people who look like him, and are that athletic, so any time you bring that to the table, and he has the work ethic to back it up, you're gonna be someone who's highly touted." |
Georgia stacked him and used him to cover TE's but he still managed 15 sacks. That Kirby Smart D is stacked and makes it difficult for any one individual to pile up #'s or rush the passer full time. Think Carter beats out Kareem Martin at LOLB and gives the D a much-needed boost in team speed.
I would be satisfied if Carter turns into a quality NFL starter. That would be a considerable improvement over our last 10 or so third round picks.
I'd be more willing to ponder Barkley being Tiki Barber 2.0 (minus the know it all attitude) than even for a minute mention a 3rd round pick and LT in the same post.
Great, tenacious player at UGA. Hopefully he continues that at the next level.
We will be unbeatable for the next few years.
LOL
He went out and get a Defensive minded Defensive coordinator.
He used the 2nd overall pick in the 3rd round to select...Carter.
This guy and that guy are all healthy.
One guy has a clean slate.
Carter has virtually everything he needs to be LT.
It's now up to Carter to come thru for the owner, the team and fans. He needs to be LT.
~
But I wonder way back if somebody posted on the NE Patriots fan site whether Tom Brady could be the next Troy Aikman or Dan Marino and somebody said...."Sure, Kid. A sixth rounder.....don't expect much!"
I strongly believe some players blossom later and are sometimes overlooked. While Carter could be a complete bust, there is every chance he could be an outstanding Giant worth of the ring of honor!
Unfortunately, that won't stop people from saying it anyway.
He was highly touted and great things were expected from him.
He has all of the innate physical attributes and he has shown phenomenal skill in flashes.
If Bettcher can figure out a way to maximize Carter's talents, he could be special.

The next LT has been coming for eons....
Let s go baby!
That’s not fair. Players are getting stronger and faster yes, but LT developing in today’s game would benefit from all that, plus his obvious talents. He was the very best. Maybe if you plunk Babe Ruth into a modern MLB lineup, he would suck, but that’s not really fair.

will have a career arc closer to Josh Gordon or Will Hill these days.

Think if you plunked Babe in today's baseball he would still be the Babe.
Until like FMiC was saying, he was suspended for drug/alcohol use.....
