NFT: NBA Draft Talk - Knicks Trade down Scenarios

GMEN46 : 5/19/2018 8:04 am
I am not a proponent of doing this just bringing it up. Suns have mentioned possibility of using some of their future picks to move up from 16 back into lottery if there is a player that they really like. Personally I think it’s too far back for Knicks to pick at 16, but if Suns offered 16 and 31 this year and their own 2019 pick, top 7 protected and then top 3 protected in 2020, is there a player in the 16 range that would be a good upside pick? Based on top prospects it doesn’t seem like it, but if Our best option is Miles Bridges from MSU at 9 At then I would trade down. Also what are people’s thoughts on Knox from kentucky?

Knicks Draft
Kevin Knox SF. All the potential in the world and is 19 years old

Robert Smith 6’10” Center / Power Forward Best athlete in draft and powerful rebounder and defender to play next to KP

Knicks only dropping 3 slots and we all know we can hit a HR at 12-13

I know yesterday I said not trading back
But if Kanter opts out and Knicks can rid themselves of Lee and Thomas contracts that opens up a ton of space and gives them a lot of flexibility
"stuck" with KP is a bizarre comment

If the Clippers were foolish enough to take that deal or course you do. But they’re not going to.

Clippers have a hard cap, they might want to consolidate their cap hits
Some of the comments in regards to KP are pretty bizarre
Mike in NJ : 5/20/2018 11:38 am : link
During his 22 year old season he averaged basically 23 and 7 with 2.5 blocks and shot 39% from 3.....39% from 3 from a guy that is 7’3”. Yeah it sucks that he got hurt and has a history of missing games, but so did Anthony Davis until he filled out and his body matured.

We have not yet seen the best of Porzingis, he’s still developing as a player and I don’t think it’s out of the question to see him develop into a guy that can average 28-8 with 3 blocks and shoot 50% from the field, 40% from 3 and 80% from the line.

If that’s not a “franchise changer” then I don’t know what is.

How would taking on Mudiay’s contract, who makes more than the two draft picks combined, help them financially? And what does “consolidate their cap hits” even mean?

I didn't see he said mudiay...

12 and 13 combined is around 10 to 11 million in cap hits...

9 is around 7, they save 4 million in cap...

When you have a hard cap you can not go over by even a penny, no minimum contracts
No ones gonna trade for

Greg from LI : 5/21/2018 9:41 am : link
People seem to think he can become another Westbrook, but I don't know - he's athletic but not THAT athletic. He's not much of a shooter or playmaker, and while he has a lot of defensive potential I don't think his defense is anything to write home about at this point.

Which freshmen guards do have defensive potential to write home about? It's usually freshmen with low usage rates like Zhaire Smith. Don't see many coming out that are polished on both ends of the floor.
*not potential
giantsfan44ab : 5/21/2018 9:46 am : link
I meant ability. It seems like you have to go on potential because there aren't many finished 2-way players at age 18. When debating guys like Young vs Sexton I think it's pretty easy to project who is gonna be the better defender in the NBA.
I'm just not overly enamored with any guards this year
Greg from LI : 5/21/2018 9:46 am : link
I'm really hoping for a big athletic wing like Porter or Knox.
Well, if you were asking me to pick one or the other
Greg from LI : 5/21/2018 9:47 am : link
then yes, I prefer Sexton to Young. Not sure I'd want either of them, though.
Knox is fine too
giantsfan44ab : 5/21/2018 9:48 am : link
but I definitely think theres a ceiling when looking at guys that can only dribble in a straight line. He is a modern NBA 4 but I think he's going to need to kill it defensively. He is going to be relying on jump shots like Tobias harris or Marcus Morris to get his points.
I mean, isn't Frenchy supposed to be the point guard of the future?
Greg from LI : 5/21/2018 9:49 am : link
He'd better be because his scoring game is pretty horrific. He'd have to make enormous improvements just to be an average 2 guard.

I've never thought he'd be a lead guard. He is above average defensively, I think he just needs to work on spot up shooting and get to 37-38% to become above average. Knicks need a lead ball handler. But drafting by need is how you end up with role players, I want the best player available at 9.

The New York Knicks are targeting Trae Young with the ninth overall pick in the 2018 NBA Draft, according to multiple sources.

Young is considered an ideal fit alongside Frank Ntilikina, who is more of a shooting guard and has limited range.

Young's father recently revealed that New York would be a desirable destination as a big market.

The Knicks interviewed Young on Friday.

Hopefully he goes ahead
giantsfan44ab : 5/21/2018 11:59 am : link
I feel like Orlando would maybe go after him.
Fizdale has already said
nygiants16 : 5/21/2018 12:19 pm : link
He wants positionless basketball, so I dont think we have to look at frank as if he is a point or a 2, it is more can he become good enough offensively that he is at least a threat...

His defense is already very good, can he improve the jumper and add just a little drive game...

As for trae young he scares the crap out of me, him coming at 6 foot 2 relieved a little bit of that, but his turnovers really scare me and he began to chuck really bad second half of the season...

I am homer so I will root for whoever they draft but young scares me..
Way too much risk to Young for me
Greg from LI : 5/21/2018 1:19 pm : link
Once defenses started keying on him, realizing that he was going to take 20+ shots per game, his shooting percentage nosedived. He obviously has tremendous range....when no one's on him, but what happens when he's facing superior athletes most nights who are in his face all game?

His passing is excellent and too often overlooked, but he's going to be a defensive liability. Scoring is going to make or break him, and I'm not sure he can pull it off.
Pick
TyreeHelmet : 5/21/2018 5:33 pm : link
I really hope by some miracle Porter falls to 9. I really think he will be the best or 2nd best player in this draft. If he played a full year he would be in serious talk to go number 1. I'm guessing he will go 7th or 8th right before the Knicks. Thank goodness they won 5 of the last 13...

I really like Sexton and Mikal Bridges. I'd be happy with either one. Also like Knox but 9 is a little early for him.

How about players at 36? Javon Carter is a player I really like.

Can you stop with the 5 of the last 13..

You know the Knicks lost the 2nd most games the second half of the season? The only team who lost more? Suns by 1 game...

So please stop with that stupid stat

The Knicks are talking seriously with Lakers assistant Jud Buechler about joining new head coach David Fizdale's staff as an assistant, per ESPN sources. Buechler has coached as an assistant under Luke Walton with the Lakers, where he worked in player development. A 12-year veteran, Buechler won three titles as a Chicago Bull for teams coached by ex-Knicks president Phil Jackson. Memphis assistant Keith Smart is also expected to be a top assistant under Fizdale.

I mean, he's a better ball handler, passer and finisher than Mikal Bridges, and is 3 years younger. He just finished the year with a .556 FG% and .450 3 pt%. Much smaller sample size, but he also wasn't playing with the best collection of offensive talent in NCAA.

I thought he was dead once he was murdered by Anthony Davis earlier this year. Once he is done in the NBA that will be the only play people will remember him by.

Why he got that contract is beyond me.
Here's some encouraging news...
bceagle05 : 5/31/2018 11:25 am : link
DraftExpress has quite a few intriguing names in the 30-40 range on its Top 100 board (we have pick #36).

Diallo and Simons are the project picks with big upside, but there are plenty of solid players in that group. I don't get many opportunities to highlight a BC basketball player, but Jerome Robinson can really play.

30) Grayson Allen - SG - Duke
31) Melvin Frazier - SF - Tulane
32) Chandler Hutchison - SG/SF - Boise St
33) Jevon Carter - PG - West Virginia
34) Jalen Brunson - PG - Villanova
35) Moritz Wagner - C - Michigan
36) Hamidou Diallo - SG - Kentucky
37) Anfernee Simons - SG - High School
38) Jerome Robinson - PG - Boston College
39) Gary Trent Jr. - SG - Duke
40) Shake Milton - PG/SG - SMU - 21.6 - 6-6/7-1
41) Justin Jackson - SF/PF - Maryland - 21.2 - 6-7/7-3
42) Chimezie Metu - PF/C - USC - 21.1 - 6-10/7-0½
