Anando : 5/19/2018 10:34 am
Just saw on pro football talk.

Guess we can breathe easy that no suspension will be coming....

Were there really people who thought he'd be suspended?

I believed it was discussed in a few threads, yes
A very few misguided posters
Mike from Ohio : 5/19/2018 10:46 am : link
Thought he could be suspended. 97% or so likely knew there was no chance.
There were a few posters
dep026 : 5/19/2018 10:47 am : link
who wanted him suspended
There were a few who thought he could be suspended.
There was one who wanted him arrested for a civil suit...

The majority knew the NFl wasnt taking action.
The NFL
Matt in SGS : 5/19/2018 10:59 am : link
would just assume not get involved in anything related to the memorabilia industry as that is a rats nest. A civil agreement out of court was the best for everyone.
The.pro-Geno Smith cultists
Coach Red Beaulieu : 5/19/2018 11:01 am : link
Wanted Eli to be imprisoned for reasons.

The only wild card in this thing was Roger Goodell. No telling what this asshole would do. So, from that perspective I was unsure.
The main concern was
Wazzat : 5/19/2018 12:06 pm : link
that Goodell would order an investigation into the whole fraud matter.
That would take a long while and probably wind up very embarrassing.

However the plaintiffs likely signed an non disclosure clause so an NFL investigation would have had a tough time getting evidence other than what was already in the public domain.

He washed his hands of it, fortunately for Eli. I suspect Eli will now stop selling his stuff.

That is what you based your assumption, a few threads on this site?

+1. Exactly.
He may want to promote an 'integrity of the game' perspective given the CTE, domestic/,sexual abuse, possible collusion re Kapernick and Reid issues, AND, appease Giants haters Kraft and Jones because of his heavy hand on 'Brady's balls' and the Greg Hardy/stream of Substance abuse issues on the 'Boys D players.
I'll err on the side of caution and expect a 1 or 2 game, and if nothing happens, OK.
It’s not like we are immune from idiots
Bill L : 5/19/2018 1:13 pm : link
But we should constantly strive to be immune *to* them.
Yeah but tell me how its settled ?
Elite Mobster #32 : 5/19/2018 5:25 pm : link
how do you explain a scandal of sold game worn memorabilia with a settlement? Sounds like Eli knew more about the subject matter and it was covered up quickly, With settlement money?

People settle lawsuits all the time even though they didn't "do it."

I would say it was more like...

There were a few posters that like to stir up the masses with their sensationalist comments.
There are a few who posters that always "take the bait".
The majority that knew the NFL wasn't taking action.
I guess it is ok to defraud people
HomerJones45 : 5/19/2018 6:23 pm : link
so long as you are white bread qb. If you are a black defensive player and you even get accused of something, Goodell's personal conduct Mayberry cops show up. Dismissals, recanted testimony, the desires of victims mean nothing when Andy and Barney show up with their NFL badges. Pass off NFL jerseys with NFL logos as game-worn when the qb and his retainers knew they weren't- free pass.

The negotiation at contract time over the Commissioner's personal conduct policy and enforcement ought to be a doozy.

.

You are SO dumb.
Goodell is not interested in white collar crime.
FStubbs : 5/20/2018 6:43 am : link
I don't think Eli would've been suspended even if he had been found guilty.

There was no "crime" alleged. It was a civil suit brought by private plaintiffs, not the government. (And, by the way, you're not found "guilty" in a civil suit, you're found "liable" if you lose.)
