NFT: How long does it take for your oven to hit 400 degrees?

V.I.G. : 5/19/2018 3:41 pm
I don’t use the oven that much. I’m a stove top or BBQ man usually. My wife insisted we get this 36” WOLF oven about 10 years ago. She’s much more form over function. I’m the exact opposite.

But am I wrong? This oven shouldn’t take so long to heat up, but it does. Baking with the kids and waiting forever for 375

How long do a it take you guys? Thank you.
Mine is electric

This is a relatively easy and cheap fix. Part should be about $75.
Good question

I'd say about 10-15 minutes or so , 20 maximum
From a non-cook, anything more than 10 months mutes is unacceptable

The reality is that it takes a lot longer than it should.
THat was supposed to say “10 minutes”

Damn auto correct.
In the market for a slide-in, 30” gas range. All the name

brands like Viking, Wolf, Miele, Jenn-Air....all have pretty horrific reviews.

In an apt without a hood, Blue Star is probably overkill.

Also not sure about a brand that also makes your TV and washing machine.

Any suggestions? Any appliance stores you recommend?
There are a few variables
Jim in Fairfax : 5/19/2018 4:33 pm : link

1) The larger the oven, the longer it takes.

2) Higher end models with concealed heating elements take longer to heat.

3) Many built-in wall models have fans that evacuate the hot air from around the oven box to keep cabinetry from getting hot. This cools the oven box some, so it takes longer to heat.

My old freestanding oven took probably 10-12 minutes to preheat. My newer built-in oven with all the above features takes at least 20 minutes.

And in reality it takes longer. I’ve found that if you check the oven temperature a few minutes after the oven says it’s done preheating, the oven temperature has dropped 25-30 degrees, I think the deal is that the oven box hasn’t gotten hot enough, and when the elements shut down it absorbs a lot of the air heat in the oven. So I compensate for this by preheating 25-50 degrees hotter, then turning the oven down when the food goes in.
Just heated and timed my over to 400 degrees

horrific reviews on the best ovens made? because of cost? - because they are expensive.

If you like something with quality, but not the Viking level, look into Dacor.
