Ok, got to watch up until Hicks hit his 2nd inside the park HR of the year, then had to step out unfortunately up until now. So, not sure how we got to 5-2. If someone feels like posting it in here, go for it. 5-2 Yanks right now, top 5.
Every player in tonight's @yankees starting lineup (complete batting order and the pitcher) was under 29 yrs. old, marking the Yanks' first such game since 9/26/70 vs. Detroit according to @EliasSports
They had that a few weeks ago...
Nope. Romine was in that line-up. That was under 30, as Romine is 29. This line up was all under 29.
Maybe just a coincidence but it seem like Didi's mega-slump...
for his Judge strike zone last night. It was absurd. Every border line pitch called a strike and twice balls well off the plate inside called a strike. It seemed like he was deliberately taking the bat out of his hands. It is very odd how Judge never seems to get a call.

Yes, both sides of the plate and low, too. Judge may have said something as it seemed the ump was talking to him around the time of the 3rd strikeout..
Andujar's fielding is by far the worst of any MLB 3B. Historically bad. His OPS + is now 91 and his OBP is .286. By every objective and statistical measurement offensively and defensively he's a terrible MLB baseball player at this point of his career. I'm not sure what Cashman's end game is here but if Drury is healthy he needs needs to be the Yankees 3B and Andujar needs more MiLB time.
Andujar is certainly not setting the world on fire, and

I know there are other defensive metrics that I havent looked up yet but Andujar is 4th in all of baseball for fielding percentage for 3rd basemen at .971. Ramirez, Moustakas and Arenado are the only 3 better, and they are premier defensive players.

Its probably the same "metrics" telling us Andujar is bad that told us that Jeter was a below average defensive shortstop.
RE: I never thought I'd say this but it's time for automated
balls and strikes. There was one AB for Judge tonight where he took 4 pitches that were either just on the edge or balls on both sides of the plate and he's called out on strikes. I know the ump almost had his head knocked off but he missed way too many pitches after that when Chapman was pitching. Keep an ump behind the plate, let him run the game, but have a machine call the pitches.
No disrespect intended arnie, but we've heard over and over for 'automated' ball and strike calls. Is there any way that can be accomplished by machines? How do you differentiate a ball from a bat passing thru the strike zone? How much plate coverage by the device? How many years to perfect such a system? And how does MLB deal with umpire backlash? Instant replay is already changing the way games are called in the field, and how much more will the umpires union allow? There are a lot of moving parts to this. I'm all for weeding out the guys with the inconsistent strike zones, though.
We need to give a prize to the first idiot who posts "Why isn't Sanchez playing". I think we've seen such a post every day that Romine starts.
Dude I'm sorry I never once did that before today but are you fucking kidding me? I get the day game after a night game crap and I get catchers sit games but this week???? seriously? We played 2 and a friggen half games since last Sunday. The guy had 4 hits and 2 bombs last night, I don't know maybe DH him and sit Hicks vs. a lefty instead of inexplicably hitting him clean-up?

I honestly couldn't agree more. If Frazier is sitting today, then why not DH Sanchez, Stanton in LF and either Hicks or Gardy in CF
Oh well. Really is unfortunate if you multiply 30 starts + for gray times 4 ABs that's 120 scheduled ABs Sanchez on the bench , plus any other days he might need to sit.
The answer is to cut Gray and move the hell on if he doesn't get it together; then we rest Sanchez often and when needed not just around Sonny Franchise Gray

Sanchez has caught half of Grays games, so hes not being benched for 30 starts, come on now. Also, Sanchez had DHd in many of the games he hasnt caught Gray. And lastly, EVERY catcher gets at least one day off per week. Or more. So who cares if that one start comes when Gray is pitching? Hes getting a day off anyways.
This overreaction to every single time Sanchez gets a day off is bordering on lunacy.

Perhaps we need to split the idiot prize this week. Catchers regularly sit in day games after night games. Although not always done, this has been normal procedure for as long as I've been watching baseball. If you think every baseball manager in the last five decades is wrong and you're right you may want to start a separate thread and explain why you are such an expert.
I am getting sick and tired of reading the same Sanchez/Romine bullshit + the
Sonny Gray nonsense on thread after thread after thread. It may make sense to cut Gray and play Sanchez every day when you're playing fantasy baseball in your mother's basement, but the real world is different.
Players need to be rested, especially catchers. If they're in a tight race in August and September they may have to play Sanchez every day and they may have to make a waiver wire deal for another pitcher. For now it makes sense to keep sending Gray out there every five days with Romine catching him. Gray was reliable as recently as last year's playoffs and right now there's no one to replace him.
Dealing for another starting pitcher is a last resort. Look what Gray cost us. Dealing for some inexpensive retread also has a low probability of success. Its better to let Gray straighten himself out.
"Historically Awful" Andujar with the booming triple
Big blue I understand the need for rest but it's Gary Sanchez coming off a big night, best hitting catcher by far in MLB , he deserves many built in DH reps to minimize off days, if that makes sense
Giancarlo is fully capable to play the field more often and not tire out whatsoever
Agree to disagree in a way tho, I agree with you, I just understand Stu as well

Lets trade Ells, or either Hicks or Gardy to the Nats. Lets pry a prospect or two from them.

If Gray doesn't get it together asap...
I trade him, cut him or send him to the BP
Gray is bad enough, we dont need to be compromising the lineup to appease him on top of it.
Boone said it's possible "sometime within the next week" Bird should be ready to return.
No Didi either.

That'd be good.

11 of the 14 have either tied the game or given the Yankees a lead.
