Soto’s arrival will conclude a stunningly rapid rise through the Nationals’ farm system. The 19-year-old Dominican was playing for Class A Hagerstown a month ago, mashing South Atlantic League pitching until the Nationals were forced to promote him. He did the same in the Carolina League with Advanced Class A Potomac and earned another promotion earlier this month to Class AA Harrisburg. His time with Harrisburg was limited, but he slugged there, too, batting .323 with a 1.043 OPS and two home runs in eight games. All told, Soto is hitting .362 with 14 home runs and a 1.218 OPS in 39 games across three levels. |
This is quite incredible.

The Yanks have young talent already starting, and younger in the wings.
The Braves have Albies and Acuna are are barely drinking age in most states.
Injury riddled Dodgers have a bunch of young guys that were in AS last year.
Other teams already have very young players as well,A's called up a young player48 hours ago, and now Soto.
Great for the game.
Soto got an AB but K'd. A lot riding on him especially if Harper leaves. Then that's going to put a lot of pressure on both Soto and Robles, their other top prospect.
Nats are just getting crushed with injuries - Zim, Weiters, Murphy, Kendrick, Easton.
On top of that, Harper is slumping and Taylor is really slumping.
Just a tough, tough stretch for them...

a necessity. With Kendrick out for the rest of the season with a blown Achilles and all of the other injuries the Nationals have (four other starters on the DL right now), they're lucky they have a prospect like Soto to promote.

Well that's just a shame. I, for one, feel so terribly for them!

I was on the WaPo message board the other day and started crushing Nats Central. Unlike BBI, I was applauded for my astute insights into their management/ownership issues... ;)

Well, no one ever said fans down in DC were smart!
He could be ready, I guess. Would be incredibly impressive if he is.
I think Dom Smith to OF is a experimental way to open a space for Alonso in AAA.
IMO Smith is not on this club after trade deadline

the Mets...so, no chance. Their model is clearly working. Why mess that up.

With apologies to the Mets fans, it's a little premature to project them as buyers at the deadline.

I'm not implying "buyers", more of a prospect for prospect trade to even out the farm
1st pitch on his 1st at bat in his 1st start. It was pretty cool to see. Also got another hit. Others fed off his momentum and the Nationals are crushing SD 9-2 right now.

Saw that. Hope he sticks around the majors so he can continue to get reps...
The last time a player that young (19y, 216d) had an IBB was Ken Griffey Jr. (19y, 209d) on 6/18/89.
