Seriously how is this show still on? It’s painful to watch, the people on it are awful. I don’t look at ratings or anything like that but does it really have an audience? It use to be an absolute riot but has really hit rock bottom. Outside of the casts families I don’t get how anyone could watch it.
Does anyone actually find it funny? That tubby black guy that’s been on it for years now is just annoying. Am I crazy?
It's the writers. It was always pretty decent until Seth Myers became a head writer and pushed it waaaaaay left, where it stays now. He is a disaster to the comedy world. The next funny thing he says will be the first.
The whole point of snl was that they would abuse every one for anything. It's a show that can't survive in its original format based in the social sensibilities of today, so it has landed into some weirdo bizarre zone of just being a not funny comedy show that nobody watches but is kind of grandfathered in.
Chappelle show and key and peele were really good at filling the void but alas those 2 shows also got pushed out by being too edgy whatever that means today.

It really had gotten way too political and obviously as you mentioned to far left. There are way too many Trump skits and jokes in every show.
Pretty ignorant comment
Pretty ignorant comment
Ignorant would be not knowing the reason chappelle did what he did. Look it up and get back to us.
It’s Kenan Thompson btw. He has some classic moments. Been on it for while. He usually isn’t on much until lately bc the modern cast sucks balls.
And yes it has gotten too political. But you can blame the current administration & their racist/mysogonist make america great again rally call for all the political shit that the whiney ultra liberals are spilling out on tv.
The impressions are so terrible that they ALWAYS have to announce who the person is supposed to be, because it's so difficult to figure it out quickly. Kate McKinnon, in particular, is extremely overrated. Most of her impressions are complete shit. But people talk about her like she's a comedic genius.
The political humor isn't smart or witty at all. It's much closer to a high school "we don't like you, so we're going to make fun of you" level of sophistication. There are other shows that are miles ahead of them in that regard, if you want hilarious politically-oriented comedy.
The writing isn't edgy at all. It's not culturally relevant at all. It has no comedic identity. No style. Absolutely no substance.
Last night's monologue by host Tina Fey was a long, boring, unfunny, self-indulgent parade of celebrity cameos. I can't imagine why people tune into this show. Do they just laugh at anything?
It needs to die.
So true.
Janet Reno dance party anyone. People have tunnel vision w their political views,
Though it does feel like it’s a bit much now. But this admin is a very easy target.
Is just the hot trend these days so get used to these types of talents being hyped.
Snl sucks really bad. Haven't watched since like 2005... Keenan Thompson still on it? That's crazy..
I like Tina Fey, wonder if she's still in it..
Hmm
Yeah and now Seth Myers is a main writer and we all know his political views. Hilary gave them plenty of ammunition to rip on and they made her out as if she were Abraham Lincoln. I just wish that they would cut back on the political skits.

Obama didn't provide much material, but Trump is an easy target. Problem is Alec Baldwin - his Trump impression sucks.

Seth Myers hasn't been the head writer or even remotely involved with the show for years(I believe since 2014. Colin Jost and Michael Che have been for at least a year. Hate the show all you want but least have a little bit of a clue when you say something.
I know. There was plenty of material to destroy Obama on, him and his wife were a walking joke.

Why would you watch that trash? LOL

Yes you are right Michael Che is one of the writers which explains a lot.
Her clown ass always pops up on my Facebook feed.
I feel the complete opposite. I LOVE Che on Weekend Update. He's my favorite, actually. Hilarious
The quality of SNL ebbs and flows with each cast and group of writers. Some are better than others, or have stylings more appealing to certain viewers.
Is this my favorite cast? No, but there have been plenty of fantastic skits over the last couple of seasons from the series of Black Jeopardy skits culminating with Tom Hanks as a Trump supporter contestant on the show, to Melissa McCarthy as Sean Spicer, to the Lobster Diner Les Mis skit, Jingle Barack, Girls Halloween

I actually watched last night's show and it was bad. I really can't stand Michael Che on weekend update.

I agree. I also think Weekend Update is the best part of the show.
And agree on Baldwin. He's horrible as Trump. Painfully unfunny. If someone's gonna play Trump, let it be Darrell Hammond. I can't stand seeing Baldwin's unfunny impersonation anymore. And they really do beat the political sketches to death.
The cast has some talented people. Kate McKinnon is not a comedic genius, but she's very funny. Beck Bennett and Kyle Mooney cater more to college kids than the SNL demographic. As mentioned, I love Michael Che. I think he's absolutely hilarious. Colin Jost, though seems like a bit of a tool. Cecily Strong is not funny, but she's pleasant to look at.
Yeah, it was fucking weird, but then again, so is Nicki Minaj
He's amazing as Lavar Ball and David Ortiz
On a side-note, I have no clue why they got rid of Jay Pharaoh. He's insanely talented.
which one is Kenan?

From Kenan and Kel.
which one is Kenan?
The fatter one
So much for that sinking ship.
And yes, from a sketch comedy standpoint, Obama didn't bring as many laughs as the current administration. Not really a political statement - people have been mocking Trump for decades, and he's switched political parties multiple times in that span.
As for the rest of the show, I happen to really like McKinnon and Michael Che. I agree with whoever said Jost is a tool. But, even still, I like Weekend Update. I think Keenan is mildly amusing, mores o for him always trying not to bust out laughing during a sketch. But, even after being there longer than any other cast member (yes, that's true), he still doesn't get much to do in most sketches.
I absolutely can't stand Aidy Bryant and Cecily Strong isn't funny and her looks are going, so what's the point?
This has continued with Trump. Not clever or funny just mean spirited, bitter, revenge attacks on the president, his staff and family.
"On Obama, he stated, "If I had to describe Obama as a comedy project, I would say, 'Degree of difficulty, 10 point 10.' It’s like being a rock climber looking up at a thousand-foot-high face of solid obsidian, polished and oiled. There’s not a single thing to grab onto — certainly not a flaw or hook that you can caricature.”
Fey is hot in a librarian type of way, but she's absolutely painfully unfunny as a comedic writer and her time on Weekend Update with Jimmy Fallon was the low point of the segment. I've never found Amy Poehler to be particularly amusing...actually, she's quite annoying. And Kristen Wiig is hit-or-miss, but way more often than not, she's a miss. I don't think I ever laughed at her on SNL. She was good in Bridesmaids but horrendous on SNL.
I liked Cheri Oteri and Molly Shannon a lot more than the aforementioned three
